20:135

وَلَوۡ اَنَّاۤ اَہۡلَکۡنٰہُمۡ بِعَذَابٍ مِّنۡ قَبۡلِہٖ لَقَالُوۡا رَبَّنَا لَوۡلَاۤ اَرۡسَلۡتَ اِلَیۡنَا رَسُوۡلًا فَنَتَّبِعَ اٰیٰتِکَ مِنۡ قَبۡلِ اَنۡ نَّذِلَّ وَنَخۡزٰی

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And if We had destroyed them with a punishment before it they would have surely said, ‘Our Lord, wherefore didst Thou not send to us a Messenger that we might have followed Thy commandments before we were humbled and disgraced?’

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور اگر ہم انہیں اس سے پہلے کسی عذاب سے ہلاک کر دیتے تو وہ ضرور کہتے اے ہمارے ربّ! کیوں نہ تُو نے ہماری طرف رسول بھیجا کہ ہم تیری آیات کی پیروی کرتے پیشتر اس کے کہ ہم ذلیل اور رُسوا ہو جاتے۔

French

Et si Nous les avions détruits par un châtiment avant lui, ils auraient assurément dit : « Notre Seigneur, pourquoi ne nous as-Tu pas envoyé de Messager afin que nous eussions pu suivre Tes commandements avant d’avoir été abaissés et couverts de honte ? »

German

Und hätten Wir sie vor ihm (dem Propheten) durch eine Strafe vernichtet, dann hätten sie gewiss gesagt: "Unser Herr, warum schicktest Du uns nicht einen Gesandten, dass wir Deine Gebote hätten befolgen mögen, ehe wir gedemütigt und beschämt würden?"

Chinese

如果在他 (这位使者降临) 之前, 我以惩罚毁灭了他们, 那么, 他们必定说: “我们的养主啊! 你为什么没有派遣使者到我们这里, 以便我们在被贬低受耻辱之前, 跟从你的迹象?”

Italian

E se Noi li avessimo distrutti con un castigo prima della venuta di questo messaggero, avrebbero certamente detto: «O Signore nostro, perché non ci hai mandato un messaggero così che potessimo seguire i Tuoi comandamenti prima di essere umiliati e svergognati?»

Spanish

Mas si los hubiéramos destruido con un castigo antes de ello, habrían dicho ciertamente: “Señor nuestro, ¿por qué no nos enviaste un Mensajero para que siguiéramos Tus mandamientos antes de ser humillados y afligidos?”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور اگر ہم ان کو اس (رسول) سے پہلے کسی عذاب کے ذریعہ سے ہلاک کردیتے تو وہ کہتے‘ اے ہمارے رب! تو نے ہماری طرف کوئی رسول کیوں نہ بھیجا۔ (اگر تو ایسا کرتا) تو ہم تیرے نشانوں کے پیچھے چل پڑتے۔ قبل اس کے کہ ہم ذلیل اور رسوا ہو جاتے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And if We had destroyed them with a punishment before the coming of this Messenger, they would have surely said, “Our Lord, wherefore didst Thou not send to us a Messenger that we might have followed Thy commandments before we were humbled and disgraced?”

English - Five Volume Translation

And if We had destroyed them with a punishment before the coming of this Messenger, they would have surely said, [a]‘Our Lord, wherefore didst Thou not send to us a Messenger that we might have followed Thy commandments before we were humbled and disgraced?’

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اگر ہم اُس کے آنے سے پہلے اِن کو کسی عذاب سے ہلاک کر دیتے تو پھر یہی لوگ کہتے کہ اے ہمارے پروردگار، تو نے ہمارے پاس کوئی رسول کیوں نہ بھیجا کہ ذلیل و رسوا ہونے سے پہلے ہی ہم تیری آیات کی پیروی اختیار کر لیتے

And if We had destroyed them with a punishment before him, they would have said, "Our Lord, why did You not send to us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses before we were humiliated and disgraced?"

اور اگر ہم انہیں اس سے پہلے کسی عذاب سے ہلاک کر دیتے تو کہتے اے ہمارے رب تو نے ہمارے پاس کوئی رسول کیوں نہ بھیجا تاکہ ہم ذلیل و خوار ہونے سے پہلے تیرے حکموں پر چلتے

And if We (had) destroyed them with a punishment before him, surely they (would) have said, "Our Lord, why not You sent to us a Messenger, so we (could) have followed Your signs before [that] we were humiliated and disgraced."

اردہ تفصیرِ صغیر نوٹس ^*

English - Arberry

Had We destroyed them with a chastisement aforetime, they would have said, 'Our Lord, why didst Thou not send us a Messenger, so that we might have followed Thy signs before that we were humiliated and degraded?'

English - Maududi

Had We destroyed them through some calamity before his coming, they would have said: "Our Lord! Why did You not send any Messenger to us that we might have followed Your signs before being humbled and disgraced?"

English - Ahmed Ali

If We had destroyed them by some calamity sooner than this, they would have surely said: "O Lord, if You had sent to us a messenger we would have followed Your command before being humbled and disgraced."

And if We had inflicted on them a penalty before this, they would have said: "Our Lord! If only Thou hadst sent us a messenger, we should certainly have followed Thy Signs before we were humbled and put to shame."
