وَمَآ أَصَٰبَكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْتَقَى ٱلْجَمْعَانِ فَبِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And that which befell you, on the day when the two parties met, was by Allah’s command; and this was so that He might distinguish the believers;

اور جو تکلیف تمہیں اس دن پہنچی جب دو گروہ متصادم ہوئے تو وہ اللہ کے حکم سے تھی تاکہ وہ مومنوں کو ممتاز کردے۔

Et ce qui vous est arrivé le jour où les deux armées se rencontrèrent, c’était sur l'ordre d’Allāh ; et il en fut ainsi afin qu’Il pût distinguer les croyants ;

Und was euch traf an dem Tage, als die beiden Heere zusammenstießen*, war nach Allahs Gebot, damit Er die Gläubigen bezeichne,

两军交战那天, 凡你们所遭遇的, 都是出于安拉的旨意, (这是) 因为他要显示信者;

E quanto vi accadde quel giorno, quando i due eserciti si scontrarono, fu per comando di Allah, e ciò fu perché Egli potesse distinguere i credenti;

Y lo que os sucedió el día en que las tropas se encontraron fue por mandato de Al-lah; y fue así para que Él distinguiera a los creyentes;

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور جس دن دونوں جماعتیں ایک دوسرے کے مقابل ہوئی تھیں (اس دن) جو (دکھ) تمہیں پہنچا تھا (وہ) اللہ کے حکم سے (ہی پہنچا) تھا اور اس لئے (پہنچا تھا تا) کہ وہ مومنوں اور منافقوں کو ظاہر کر دے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And that which befell you, on the day when two hosts met, was by Allah’s command; and this was so that He might cause the believers to be distinguished;

English - Five Volume Translation

And that which befell you, on the day when the two parties met, was by Allah’s command; and this was so that He might distinguish the believers;[449]

Commentary:

The "meeting of the parties" refers to the Battle of Uhud which is under review here.

The clause لیعلم المؤمنین rendered as, that He might distinguish the believers, does not mean, "that He might know the believers", as generally translated. According to Quranic idiom, the expression simply means that Allah might mark out, or make known, or distinguish believers from disbelievers. See also note on 3:141.

جو نقصان لڑائی کے دن تمہیں پہنچا وہ اللہ کے اذن سے تھا اور اس لیے تھا کہ اللہ دیکھ لے تم میں سے مومن کون ہیں

English - Sahih

And what struck you on the day the two armies met was by permission of Allah that He might make evident the [true] believers.

اور جو کچھ تمہیں اس دن پیش آیا جس دن دونوں جماعتیں ملیں سو الله کے حکم سے ہوا او رتاکہ الله ایمان دارو ں کو ظاہر کر دے
