41:46

وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَٰبَ فَٱخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ ۗ وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَقُضِىَ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَفِى شَكٍّ مِّنْهُ مُرِيبٍ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And We did give Moses the Book, but differences were created concerning it; and had it not been for a word that had gone before from thy Lord, the matter would have been decided between them; and certainly they are in a disquieting doubt about it.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور یقیناً ہم نے موسیٰ کو بھی کتاب عطا کی تھی۔ پس اُس میں اختلاف کیا گیا۔ اور اگر تیرے ربّ کی طرف سے فرمان گزر نہ چکا ہوتا تو ضرور اُن کے درمیان فیصلہ کردیا جاتا اور یقیناً وہ اس کے بارہ میں ایک بے چین کر دینے والے شک میں مبتلا ہیں۔

French

Et en fait Nous donnâmes le Livre à Moïse, mais des divergences ont été créées concernant cela ; et n’eût été une parole qui avait déjà été prononcée par ton Seigneur, l’affaire aurait été assurément jugée entre eux ; et en vérité, ils sont dans un doute inquiétant à propos de ce Coran.

Und Wir gaben auch Moses die Schrift, doch dann entstand Uneinigkeit über sie. Wäre nicht ein Wort von deinem Herrn zuvor ergangen, es wäre gewiss zwischen ihnen entschieden worden; aber wahrhaftig, sie sind in beunruhigendem Zweifel über ihn (den Qur-ân).

我曾授予穆撒经典, 但对于它, 有人也持彼此相左的意见。[d]假如不是你的养主有言在先, 那么, 在他们之间 (的事情) 必定早已有了裁判。对于它 («古兰经») 他们确在不安的怀疑中。

E, in verità, Noi demmo a Mosè il libro, ma furono create delle divergenze a suo riguardo. E se non fosse stato per una parola che era stata pronunciata precedentemente dal tuo Signore, la questione sarebbe stata decisa tra di loro, e certamente essi si trovano in un dubbio inquietante a questo riguardo.

Dimos a Moisés el Libro, pero crearon diferencias respecto a él; y e no haber sido por una palabra que fue revelada antes por tu Señor, el asunto habría quedado decidido entre ellos; pues en verdad se encuentran en una duda inquietante respecto a él.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور ہم نے موسیٰ کو بھی ایک اعلیٰ کتاب دی تھی اور اس کے بارہ میں بھی اختلاف کیا گیا تھا اور اگر ایک بات تیرے رب کی طرف سے پہلے گذر نہ چکی ہوتی تو ان لوگوں کا کبھی کا فیصلہ ہو چکا ہوتا۔ وہ اس (قرآن) کے بارے میں ایک ایسے شک میں پڑے ہوئے ہیں جو ان کے امن کو کاٹ دیتا ہے (یعنی انتہائی شکوک میں مبتلا رہتے ہیں اور اس پر غور نہیں کرتے) ۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And, indeed, We gave Moses the Book, but differences were created concerning it; [a]and had it not been for a word[2639A] that had gone forth from thy Lord, the matter would have been decided between them, and certainly they are in a disquieting doubt about it.

The reference is to the Divine words, "My mercy encompasses all things" (7:157).

And We did give Moses the Book, but differences were created concerning it; [b]and had it not been for a word that had gone before from thy Lord, the matter would have been decided between them; and certainly they are in a disquieting doubt about it.[3594]

Commentary:

The words, the matter would have been decided between them, signify that the guilt of disbelievers was so serious and patent that they would have been destroyed long ago, had it not been for the fact that God had created mankind for spiritual progress and that men might receive His mercy. The Divine punishment is deferred and postponed also because during the interval many of the enemies of truth may have an opportunity to accept the same. See also 7:157 & 11:111, 120.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اِس سے پہلے ہم نے موسیٰؑ کو کتاب دی تھی اور اس کے معاملے میں بھی یہی اختلاف ہوا تھا اگر تیرے رب نے پہلے ہی ایک بات طے نہ کر دی ہوتی تو ان اختلاف کرنے والوں کے درمیان فیصلہ چکا دیا جاتا اور حقیقت یہ ہے کہ یہ لوگ اُس کی طرف سے سخت اضطراب انگیز شک میں پڑے ہوئے ہیں

English - Sahih

And We had already given Moses the Scripture, but it came under disagreement. And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord, it would have been concluded between them. And indeed they are, concerning the Qur'an, in disquieting doubt.

اورہم نے موسیٰ کو کتاب دی تھی پھر اس میں اختلاف کیا گیا اور اگر آپ کے رب کی طرف سے ایک بات صادر نہ ہو چکی ہوتی تو ان کا فیصلہ ہی ہو چکا ہوتا اورانہیں تو قرآن میں قوی شک ہے

And certainly, We gave Musa the Book, but disputes arose therein. And had it not been (for) a word (that) preceded from your Lord, surely, would have been settled between them. But indeed, they surely (are) in doubt about it disquieting.

And We gave Moses the Book; and there was difference concerning it, and but for a Word that preceded from thy Lord, it had been decided between them; and they are in doubt of it disquieting.

And in the past We gave Moses the Book and yet it became an object of dispute. If your Lord's decree had not gone forth before, a decisive judgement would have been made among them, once and for all. Surely they are in a disquieting doubt about it.

English - Ahmed Ali

Verily We gave Moses the Book; but they began to differ about it. If the Word of your Lord had not preceded it the matter would have been settled between them. They are still in doubt about it and uneasy.

We certainly gave Moses the Book aforetime: but disputes arose therein. Had it not been for a Word that went forth before from thy Lord, (their differences) would have been settled between them: but they remained in suspicious disquieting doubt thereon.
