6:8

وَلَوۡ نَزَّلۡنَا عَلَیۡکَ کِتٰبًا فِیۡ قِرۡطَاسٍ فَلَمَسُوۡہُ بِاَیۡدِیۡہِمۡ لَقَالَ الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡۤا اِنۡ ہٰذَاۤ اِلَّا سِحۡرٌ مُّبِیۡنٌ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And if We had sent down to thee a writing upon parchment and they had felt it with their hands, even then the disbelievers would have surely said, ‘This is nothing but manifest sorcery.’

اور اگر ہم تجھ پر کسی قرطاس میں کوئی تحریر اُتارتے پھر وہ اسے اپنے ہاتھوں سے چھو بھی لیتے تو کافر پھر بھی ضرور کہتے کہ یہ تو ایک کھلے کھلے جادو کے سوا کچھ نہیں۔

Et si Nous avions fait descendre sur toi un écrit sur parchemin et s’ils l’avaient tâté de leurs mains, même alors les mécréants auraient certainement dit : « Ceci n’est qu’une magie manifeste. »

Wenn Wir dir auch eine Schrift hinabgesandt hätten auf Pergament, welche sie befühlt hätten mit ihren Händen, die Ungläubigen hätten selbst dann gesagt: "Das ist nichts als offenkundige Zauberei."

E se Noi ti avessimo mandato un messaggio scritto su pergamena ed essi avessero potuto toccarlo con mano, anche allora i miscredenti avrebbero detto di certo: «Ma questa non è altro che evidente magia.»

Aunque te hubiésemos revelado un escrito en pergamino y ellos lo tocaran con las manos, los incrédulos habrían dicho ciertamente: “esto no es más que pura magia”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور اگر ہم تجھ پر ایک کاغذوں پر لکھی ہوئی کتاب نازل کرتے‘ جسے وہ اپنے ہاتھوں سے چھولیتے تو کافر پھر بھی کہتے‘ یہ تو ایک کھلا کھلا فریب ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And if We had sent down to thee a writing upon the parchment and they had felt it with their hands[825] even then the disbelievers would have surely said, ‘This is nothing but manifest sorcery.’

They had made sure that it was a heavenly and not an earthly thing.

English - Five Volume Translation

And if We had sent down to thee a writing upon parchment and they had felt it with their hands, even then the disbelievers would have surely said, ‘This is nothing but manifest sorcery.’[755]

Important Words:

قرطاس (parchment) means paper; a roll or scroll of paper; anything one writes upon; a writing or book; a butt or target (Lane).

Commentary:

The words, and they had felt it with their hands, mean, "and they had made sure that it was a heavenly thing and not an earthly one". The words also embody a beautiful allusion to the spiritual blindness of the people. Being blind, they cannot see; so they have to feel with their hands.

The verse signifies that when a man gives himself up to doubting, nothing, however clear and manifest, can convince him.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اے پیغمبرؐ! اگر ہم تمہارے اوپر کوئی کاغذ میں لکھی لکھائی کتاب بھی اتار دیتے اور لوگ اسے اپنے ہاتھوں سے چھو کر بھی دیکھ لیتے تب بھی جنہوں نے حق کا انکار کیا ہے وہ یہی کہتے کہ یہ تو صریح جادو ہے

English - Sahih

And even if We had sent down to you, [O Muhammad], a written scripture on a page and they touched it with their hands, the disbelievers would say, "This is not but obvious magic."

اور اگر ہم تم پر کوئی کاغذ پر لکھی ہوئی کتاب اتار دیتے اور لوگوں سے اپنے ہاتھوں سے چھو کر بھی دیکھ لیتے تب بھی کافر یہی کہتے ہیں کہ یہ تو صریح جادو ہے

And (even) if We (had) sent down to you a written Scripture in a parchment and they touched it with their hands, surely (would) have said those who disbelieved, "Not (is) this but magic, clear."

اردہ تفصیرِ صغیر نوٹس ^*

Had We sent down on thee a Book on parchment and so they touched it with their hands, yet the unbelievers would have said, 'This is naught but manifest sorcery.'

English - Maududi

(O Messenger!) Had We sent down to you a book incribed on parchment, and had they even touched it with their own hands, the unbelievers would still have said: 'This is nothing but plain magic.'

English - Ahmed Ali

Even if We had sent you a transcript on paper which they could feel with their hands, the unbelievers would have said: "This is nothing but clear sorcery."

English - Yusuf Ali

If We had sent unto thee a written (message) on parchment, so that they could touch it with their hands, the Unbelievers would have been sure to say: "This is nothing but obvious magic!"
