[1] رَكَزَ , (S, A, Msb, K,) aor. رَكُزَ (S, Msb, K) and رَكِزَ , (K,) inf. n. رَكْزٌ, (S, A, Msb,) He stuck, or fixed, a spear, (S, A, Msb, K,) and a stick, (A,) or some other thing, (TA,) into the ground, (S, A, Msb, K,) upright; (TA;) as also ↓ ركّز, (K,) inf. n. تَرْكِيزٌ. (TA.) You say also, رَكَزَ الحَرُّ السَّفَى, aor. رَكُزَ , inf. n. رَكْزٌ, The heat made the thornbushes fast in the ground [by hardening the soil]. (TA.) And رَكَزَ ٱللّٰهُ المعَادِنَ فِى الجِبَالِ God fixed the metals, or minerals, in the mountains: (A, TA:) or caused them to exist therein. (K, * TA.) And رَكَزَ المَالَ, inf. n. as above, He buried the property. (TA.)

اور کتنی ہی نسلیں ہیں جنہیں ہم نے اُن سے پہلے ہلاک کردیا۔ کیا تُو ان میں سے کسی کو محسوس کرتا ہے یا اُن کی آہٹ سنتا ہے۔

اور کتنی ہی امتیں ہیں جو ان سے پہلے گذری ہیں کہ ہم ان کو ہلاک کر چکے ہیں کیا تو ان میں سے کسی کو بھی کسی حس کے ذریعہ سے محسوس کرتا ہے یا ان کی بھنک سنتا ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

[c]And how many a generation have We destroyed before them! Canst thou perceive a single one of them, or hear even a whisper of them?[1806]

17:18; 19:75; 21:12; 36:32; 50:37.

The verse embodies for the Western Christian nations a grim warning about the dreadful fate that is in store for them if they did not accept the Truth and give up their evil ways. They are proud of their material power and resources and their worldly prosperity and progress, but have ignored the patent fact that wrong beliefs and a life of sin lead only to destruction.

تحس (thou seest) is derived from حس. They say حس الشیء i.e. he perceived or became sensible of the حس (hiss) of the thing; he ascertained the thing as one ascertains a thing that is perceived by the senses; he knew the thing; or he perceived it by means of any of the senses, by seeing, feeling, touching etc.

Commentary:

The verse embodies for the western Christian nations a most grim warning about the dreadful fate that is in store for them if they did not accept the truth and give up their evil ways. It purports to say that they are proud of their material power and resources and their worldly prosperity and progress. But they have ignored the patent fact that wrong beliefs and a life of sin leads only to destruction. They are warned that there had lived before them people who were at least as powerful and prosperous as they are and yet on account of their evil deeds and transgressions they were so completely destroyed that no trace was left of them.

ان سے پہلے ہم کتنی ہی قوموں کو ہلاک کر چکے ہیں، پھر آج کہیں تم ان کا نشان پاتے ہو یا اُن کی بھنک بھی کہیں سنائی دیتی ہے؟

And how many have We destroyed before them of generations? Do you perceive of them anyone or hear from them a sound?
