فَلَوۡلَا نَصَرَہُمُ الَّذِیۡنَ اتَّخَذُوۡا مِنۡ دُوۡنِ اللّٰہِ قُرۡبَانًا اٰلِہَۃًۢ ۖ بَلۡ ضَلُّوۡا عَنۡہُمۡ ۚ وَذٰلِکَ اِفۡکُہُمۡ وَمَا کَانُوۡا یَفۡتَرُوۡنَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Why, then, did not those help them whom they had taken for gods beside Allah, seeking His nearness through them? Nay, they were lost to them. That was the result of their lie, and of what they fabricated.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

پھر کیوں نہ ان لوگوں نے ان کی مددکی جن کو اللہ کے سواحصولِ قُرب کی خاطر انہوں نے معبود بنا رکھا تھا بلکہ وہ تو ان سے کھوئے گئے۔ اور یہ اُن کے جھوٹ کا نتیجہ تھا اور اس کا جو وہ افترا کیا کرتے تھے۔

French

Pourquoi donc, ne les ont-ils pas aidés, ceux qu’ils avaient pris pour dieux en dehors d’Allāh, afin de s’approcher de Lui ? Non, mais ils leur ont été d’aucun recours. C’était là le résultat de leur mensonge, et de ce qu’ils avaient inventé.

Warum haben ihnen denn die nicht geholfen, die sie sich zu Göttern genommen hatten statt Allah (und die sie Ihm) nahe bringen sollten? Nein, sie entglitten ihnen. Das war ihre Lüge und was sie zu erfinden pflegten.

[d]他们在安拉之外为求接近安拉而自立的与他同等的崇拜对象, 为什么没曾帮助他们? 不, 他们 (在需要时) 就消失不见了。这就是他们的谎言和他们所捏造的 (结局)。

Perché, dunque, non li aiutarono quelli che si erano presi come dei all'infuori di Allah, cercando di accostarsi a Lui tramite loro? No, essi li abbandonarono. Fu questa la conseguenza della loro menzogna e di quanto avevano inventato.

¿Por qué, pues, no les ayudaron aquellos que habían tomado por dioses, buscando Su cercanía a través suyo? No, se les perdieron. Ese fue el resultado de su mentira y de lo que tramaron.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

پھر کیوں نہ ان لوگوں نے جن کو انہوں نے اللہ کے سوا اس لئے معبود بنا رکھا تھا کہ وہ ان کو خدا کے قریب کر دیں ان کی مدد کی‘ بلکہ وہ موقع پر ان (کی آنکھوں) سے غائب ہو گئے اور یہ ان کے جھوٹ اور افترا کا نتیجہ ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

Why, [a]then, did not those help them whom they had taken for gods beside Allah that they might bring them near to Him? Nay, they were lost to them. That was the consequence of their lie, and of what they fabricated.

42:47.

Why, [a]then, did not those help them whom they had taken for gods beside Allah, seeking His nearness through them? Nay, they were lost to them. That was the result of their lie, and of what they fabricated.[3782]

Important Words:

قرباناً (seeking nearness) is infinitive noun from قرب. They say قرب الیه ومنه i.e. he was or became near to him or it. قرب للّٰه قرباناً(qarraba): he made an offering to God. قربان means, an offering or oblation; a sacrifice; anything by means of which one seeks nearness to God; a near or favourite associate or companion (Lane & Aqrab). The word has been used in the latter sense in 39:4.

Commentary:

The verse contains a very challenging argument against idolatry and drives home to polytheists the futility of their idolatrous beliefs and practices, saying that their false gods can never help them in time of need while the True Almighty God comes to the rescue of His servants when they are in distress and call for His help.

پھر کیوں نہ اُن ہستیوں نے اُن کی مدد کی جنہیں اللہ کو چھوڑ کر انہوں نے تقرب الی اللہ کا ذریعہ سمجھتے ہوئے معبود بنا لیا تھا؟ بلکہ وہ تو ان سے کھوئے گئے، اور یہ تھا اُن کے جھوٹ اور اُن بناوٹی عقیدوں کا انجام جو انہوں نے گھڑ رکھے تھے

English - Sahih

Then why did those they took besides Allah as deities by which to approach [Him] not aid them? But they had strayed from them. And that was their falsehood and what they were inventing.

پھر ان معبودوں نے کیوں نہ مدد کی جن کو انہوں نے الله کے سوا مرتبہ حاصل کرنے کے لیے معبود بنا رکھا تھا بلکہ وہ تو ان سے کھو ئےگئے تھے اور یہ ان کا جھوٹ تھا اور جو کچھ وہ ڈھکوسلے بنایا کرتےتھے

Then why (did) not help them those whom they had taken besides Allah gods as a way of approach? Nay, they were lost from them. And that (was) their falsehood and what they were inventing.

Then why did those not help them that they had taken to themselves as mediators, gods apart from God? Not so; but they went astray from them, and that was their calumny, and what they had been forging.

So why did those whom they had set up as gods apart from Allah, hoping that they would bring them nearer to Him, not come to their aid? Instead, they failed them. This was the end of the lie they had fabricated and the false beliefs they had invented.

Why then did the gods they had taken apart from God as propitiators, not come to their aid? In fact they strayed away from them. It was all a lie what they had contrived!
