وَلَوْ أَنَّآ أَهْلَكْنَٰهُم بِعَذَابٍ مِّن قَبْلِهِۦ لَقَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا لَوْلَآ أَرْسَلْتَ إِلَيْنَا رَسُولًا فَنَتَّبِعَ ءَايَٰتِكَ مِن قَبْلِ أَن نَّذِلَّ وَنَخْزَىٰ
English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
And if We had destroyed them with a punishment before it they would have surely said, ‘Our Lord, wherefore didst Thou not send to us a Messenger that we might have followed Thy commandments before we were humbled and disgraced?’

اور اگر ہم انہیں اس سے پہلے کسی عذاب سے ہلاک کر دیتے تو وہ ضرور کہتے اے ہمارے ربّ! کیوں نہ تُو نے ہماری طرف رسول بھیجا کہ ہم تیری آیات کی پیروی کرتے پیشتر اس کے کہ ہم ذلیل اور رُسوا ہو جاتے۔

Et si Nous les avions détruits par un châtiment avant lui, ils auraient assurément dit : « Notre Seigneur, pourquoi ne nous as-Tu pas envoyé de Messager afin que nous eussions pu suivre Tes commandements avant d’avoir été abaissés et couverts de honte ? »

اور اگر ہم ان کو اس (رسول) سے پہلے کسی عذاب کے ذریعہ سے ہلاک کردیتے تو وہ کہتے‘ اے ہمارے رب! تو نے ہماری طرف کوئی رسول کیوں نہ بھیجا۔ (اگر تو ایسا کرتا) تو ہم تیرے نشانوں کے پیچھے چل پڑتے۔ قبل اس کے کہ ہم ذلیل اور رسوا ہو جاتے۔

And if We had destroyed them with a punishment before the coming of this Messenger, they would have surely said, “Our Lord, wherefore didst Thou not send to us a Messenger that we might have followed Thy commandments before we were humbled and disgraced?”

اگر ہم اُس کے آنے سے پہلے اِن کو کسی عذاب سے ہلاک کر دیتے تو پھر یہی لوگ کہتے کہ اے ہمارے پروردگار، تو نے ہمارے پاس کوئی رسول کیوں نہ بھیجا کہ ذلیل و رسوا ہونے سے پہلے ہی ہم تیری آیات کی پیروی اختیار کر لیتے

Et pourquoi donc, lorsqu’une affliction leur survient à cause de ce qu’ils ont fait eux-mêmes, ne disent-ils pas : « Notre Seigneur, pourquoi ne nous as-Tu pas envoyé un Messager afin que nous puissions suivre Tes Signes et être du nombre des croyants ? »

Und wäre es nicht, dass sie, wenn ein Unglück sie treffen sollte um dessentwillen, was ihre Hände vorausgesandt, sprechen könnten: "Unser Herr, warum hast Du uns nicht einen Gesandten geschickt, dass wir Deine Zeichen hätten befolgen mögen, und wir wären unter den Gläubigen gewesen?"(, hätten Wir dich nicht entsandt.)

اور اگر یہ خیال نہ ہوتا کہ وہ اپنے اعمال کی وجہ سے کسی مصیبت کے آنے پر کہیں گے اے ہمارے رب! تو نے ہماری طرف کوئی رسول نہ بھیجا‘ تا کہ ہم تیری آیتوں کے پیچھے چلتے اور مومنوں میں سے بن جاتے (تو شاید ہم تجھے رسول بنا کر نہ بھیجتے مگر کفار پر حجت قائم کرنا ضروری تھا)

Commentary:
The sense implied in the verse is that by their iniquities and transgressions the disbelievers render themselves deserving of God’s punishment but as it is inconsistent with His justice and mercy to punish them without first giving them an opportunity to reform themselves, so He raises a Prophet among them so that when punishment should overtake them they might not say that they were not given an opportunity to reform themselves by following the Divine Prophet if one had appeared among them.

(اور یہ ہم نے اس لیے کیا کہ) کہیں ایسا نہ ہو کہ اُن کے اپنے کیے کرتوتوں کی بدولت کوئی مصیبت جب اُن پر آئے تو وہ کہیں "اے پروردگار، تُو نے کیوں نہ ہماری طرف کوئی رسول بھیجا کہ ہم تیری آیات کی پیروی کرتے اور اہلِ ایمان میں سے ہوتے"

Commentary:
