فَلَمَّا جَنَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلَّيْلُ رَءَا كَوْكَبًا ۖ قَالَ هَٰذَا رَبِّى ۖ فَلَمَّآ أَفَلَ قَالَ لَآ أُحِبُّ ٱلْءَافِلِينَ
English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
And when the night darkened upon him, he saw a star. He said: ‘This is my Lord!’ But when it set, he said: ‘I like not those that set.’
اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ
پس جب رات اس پر چھا گئی اس نے ایک ستارے کو دیکھا تو کہا (گویا) یہ میرا ربّ ہے۔ پس جب وہ ڈوب گیا توکہنے لگا میں ڈوبنے والوں سے محبت نہیں کرتا۔

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر
(ایک دن ایسا ہوا کہ) جب رات نے اس پر پردہ ڈال دیا تو اس نے ایک ستارہ دیکھا (اسے دیکھ کر) اس نے کہا کہ کیا یہ میرا رب (ہو سکتا) ہے؟ پھر جب وہ ڈوب گیا‘ تو اس نے کہا کہ میں ڈوبنے والوں کو پسند نہیں کرتا۔
English - Short Commentary Translation
And when the night darkened upon him, he saw a star. He said, ‘Can this be my Lord?’ But when it set, he said, ‘I like not those that set.’

And when the night darkened upon him, he saw a star. He said: ‘This is my Lord!’ But when it set, he said: ‘I like not those that set.’[822]
Important Words:
جن (darkened) means, it covered up. They say جن اللیل الشیء or جن اللیل علی الشیء i.e. the night covered the thing up; or the night threw its covering of darkness over the thing. جن اللیل means, the night grew dark. See also 2:26 & 6:129.

چنانچہ جب رات اس پر طاری ہوئی تو اُس نے ایک تار ا دیکھا کہا یہ میرا رب ہے مگر جب وہ ڈوب گیا تو بولا ڈوب جانے والوں کا تو میں گرویدہ نہیں ہوں

So when the night covered him [with darkness], he saw a star. He said, "This is my lord." But when it set, he said, "I like not those that disappear."
