Commentary:
This verse confirms the interpretation of the previous verse viz. that the resurrection referred to is the one which took place in Arabia after the Fall of Mecca when the whole country responded to the call of God and His Prophet with a feeling of thanksgiving and Divine glorification.
The words, and you will think that you have tarried but a little while, mean that disbelievers would realize that the victory of Islam was not a distant consummation, as wrongly imagined by them, but an event close at hand. Another sense implied in the words is that on that day they would feel that the period of their lives spent in ignorance and opposition to Islam was wasted and that their real lives had begun only with their acceptance of Islam. Similarly, the Faithful would also look back with satisfaction upon the days they had spent in adversity and privation and would regard their bitter experiences of the past as a dream. The words 'a little while' do not, in fact, refer to the length of any period of time, but to the nature of the emotion which the memory of those days will awaken in the minds of believers as well as disbelievers.

نَّحۡنُ اَعۡلَمُ بِمَا یَقُوۡلُوۡنَ اِذۡ یَقُوۡلُ اَمۡثَلُہُمۡ طَرِیۡقَۃً اِنۡ لَّبِثۡتُمۡ اِلَّا یَوۡمًا
طَرِيْقَةُ الْقَوْم (Tariqatul-Qaum) 的意思是, 人们中间最好或最正直的人 (اَقْرَبْ, Aqrab)。 يَوْم (Yaum) 这里意示22:48中谈到的一千年以及上节经文中相应的 “十天”, 即十个世纪或一千年。يَوْم (Yaum) 还可纯粹指时间。如果依这一单词的这个意义讲, 那就是描写不信者在遭受安拉惩罚时, 他们繁荣和进步的时间只有一天, 那就是说, 时间非常短。

یعنی اخروی زندگی کے مقابلہ میں دنیوی زندگی نہایت قلیل ہے اور بوجہ دکھوں سے بھری ہوئی ہونے کے اور بھی قلیل معلوم ہوتی ہے۔
Commentary:
The divine rejoinder to disbelievers will be that worldly life and its pleasures or comforts were indeed transitory and very short-lived but they had never realized this fact and so kept on indulging in idle pursuits and mocking at God’s Messengers and their followers as if there would be no end to this life. If they had only realized the transitoriness of this life, they would not have rejected the Divine Messengers.
