تَاللّٰہِ لَقَدۡ اَرۡسَلۡنَاۤ اِلٰۤی اُمَمٍ مِّنۡ قَبۡلِکَ فَزَیَّنَ لَہُمُ الشَّیۡطٰنُ اَعۡمٰلَہُمۡ فَہُوَ وَلِیُّہُمُ الۡیَوۡمَ وَلَہُمۡ عَذَابٌ اَلِیۡمٌ
English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
By Allah, We did send Messengers to the peoples before thee; but Satan made their works appear beautiful to them. So he is their patron this day, and they shall have a grievous punishment.
اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ
اللہ کی قسم! ہم نے یقیناً تجھ سے پہلی قوموں کی طرف رسول بھیجے تو شیطان نے ان کے اعمال انہیں خوبصورت بنا کر دکھائے پس آج وہ ان کا ولی (بنا بیٹھا) ہے حالانکہ ان کے لئے دردناک عذاب (مقدر) ہے۔

Par Allāh, Nous avons sûrement envoyé desMessagers aux peuples avant toi ; mais Satan leur fit paraître belles leurs œuvres. Ainsi, il sera leur patron ce jour-là, et ils auront un châtiment douloureux.

Bei Allah, Wir schickten fürwahr schon Gesandte zu den Völkern vor dir, doch Satan ließ ihnen ihre Werke wohlgefällig erscheinen. So ist er heute ihr Schutzherr, und ihnen wird schmerzliche Strafe.

اللہ کی قسم ہم نے تجھ سے پہلے کی تمام امتوں کی طرف رسول بھیجے تھے۔ پھر انہیں شیطان نے ان کے (بد) اعمال خوبصورت کرکے دکھائے‘ سو آج وہی ان کا آقا (بنا ہوا) ہے اور (وہ اس کے پیچھے جا رہے ہیں) ان کے لئے دردناک عذاب (مقدر) ہے۔

Commentary:
The verse purports to say that the disbelievers of Mecca like disbelievers of former Prophets have been lulled by Satan into a false sense of security. Like their predecessors and prototypes, they labour under the delusion that they would not have to answer for their wrongdoings. They feel themselves to be secure while a terrible punishment is about to overtake them.

خدا کی قسم، اے محمدؐ، تم سے پہلے بھی بہت سی قوموں میں ہم رسول بھیج چکے ہیں (اور پہلے بھی یہی ہوتا رہا ہے کہ) شیطان نے اُن کے برے کرتوت اُنہیں خوشنما بنا کر دکھائے (اور رسولوں کی بات انہوں نے مان کر نہ دی) وہی شیطان آج اِن لوگوں کا بھی سرپرست بنا ہوا ہے اور یہ دردناک سزا کے مستحق بن رہے ہیں

By Allah, We did certainly send [messengers] to nations before you, but Satan made their deeds attractive to them. And he is the disbelievers' ally today [as well], and they will have a painful punishment.

الله کی قسم ہے! ہم نے تجھ سے پہلے بھی قوموں میں رسول بھیجے تھے پھر شیطان نے لوگوں کو ان کی بداعمالیاں اچھی کر دکھائیں سو آج بھی ان کا وہی دوست ہے اور ان کے لیے دردناک عذاب ہے

By God, assuredly We sent Messengers to nations before thee, but Satan decked out fair to them their deeds; he is their protector today, and there yet awaits them a painful chastisement.

By Allah, (O Muhammad), We sent Messengers to other communities before you but Satan made their evil deeds attractive to them (so they paid no heed to the call of the Messengers). The same Satan is their patron today and they are heading towards a painful chastisement.
