فَعَمِیَتۡ عَلَیۡہِمُ الۡاَنۡۢبَآءُ یَوۡمَئِذٍ فَہُمۡ لَا یَتَسَآءَلُوۡنَ
Anba’ (excuses) is the plural of Naba’ which means, important news; information; message; excuse (Lane & Kulliyyat). At the time of Reckoning, the disbelievers will be in utter confusion and despair, and will be completely at a loss to defend themselves. The untenability of all false pleas and excuses becoming manifest they will not be allowed to consult each other to prepare their defence.
‘Amiya ‘Alaihil-Amru means, the affair became obscure or confused to him (Lane).

عمیت (will become obscure) is formed from عمی which means, he was or became blind; he was or became spiritually blind; he failed to see a thing; he was or became stupid or ignorant. They say عمی علیه الامر i.e. the affair became obscure or confused to him. عمیت الاخبار عن فلان means, news or information became hidden to such a one (Aqrab & Lane).
