قَالُوۡا یٰۤاَیُّہَا الۡعَزِیۡزُ اِنَّ لَہٗۤ اَبًا شَیۡخًا کَبِیۡرًا فَخُذۡ اَحَدَنَا مَکَانَہٗۤ ۖ اِنَّا نَرٰٮکَ مِنَ الۡمُحۡسِنِیۡنَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

They said, ‘O exalted one, he has a very aged father, so take one of us in his stead; for we see thee to be of those who do good.’

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

انہوں نے کہا اے صاحبِ اختیار! یقیناً اس کا باپ بہت بوڑھا شخص ہے۔ پس اس کی بجائے ہم میں سے کسی ایک کو رکھ لے۔ یقیناً ہم تجھے احسان کرنے والوں میں سے دیکھتے ہیں۔

Ils dirent : « Votre Excellence, il a un père très âgé ; alors prenez l’un d’entre nous à sa place, car nous voyons que vous êtes du nombre de ceux qui font le bien. »

German

Sie sprachen: "O Mächtiger, er hat einen greisen Vater, so nimm einen von uns an seiner Statt; denn wir sehen, du gehörst zu denen, die Gutes tun."

他们说: “高贵的首长啊! 他确有一个很老的父亲, 求你留下我们中一个来代替他吧! 我们看你确是一位行善的人。”

Italian

Dissero: «Eccellenza, egli ha un padre molto vecchio, perciò prendi uno di noi al suo posto, poiché vediamo che sei di quelli che fanno il bene.»

Spanish

Dijeron; “Excelencia, tiene un padre muy anciano, por tanto, toma a uno de nosotros en su lugar; porque vemos que te cuentas entre los que hacen el bien”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

انہوں نے کہا (کہ) اے سردار[2]! اس کا ایک بہت بوڑھا باپ ہے (اسے اس کے صدمہ سے بچانے کے لئے) اس کی بجائے آپ ہم میں سے کسی ایک کو پکڑ لیجیئے۔ ہم آپ کو یقیناً محسنوں میں سے سمجھتے ہیں۔

عَزِیْز کا لفظ سردارِ دربار یا وزیر کے لئے بولا جاتا ہے۔ وہی ترجمہ ہم نے کیا ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

They said, ‘O noble chief, he has a very aged father,[1399] so take one of us in his place; for we see thee to be of those who are benevolent.’

Not being satisfied with accusing Benjamin of theft, they proceed to disown him and even refuse to acknowledge him as their brother saying, 'he has a very aged father.'

English - Five Volume Translation

They said, ‘O exalted one, he has a very aged father, so take one of us in his stead; for we see thee to be of those who do good.’[1578]

Commentary:

Not being satisfied with accusing Benjamin of theft, they proceed to disown him and even refuse to acknowledge him as their brother saying, he has a very aged father.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

انہوں نے کہا "اے سردار ذی اقتدار (عزیز)، اس کا باپ بہت بوڑھا آدمی ہے، اس کی جگہ آپ ہم میں سے کسی کو رکھ لیجیے، ہم آپ کو بڑا ہی نیک نفس انسان پاتے ہیں"

English - Sahih

They said, "O 'Azeez, indeed he has a father [who is] an old man, so take one of us in place of him. Indeed, we see you as a doer of good."

انہوں نے کہا اے عزیز! بے شک اس کا باپ بوڑھا بڑی عمر کا ہے سو اسکی جگہ ہم میں سے ایک کو رکھ لے ہم تم کو احسان کرنے والا دیکھتے ہیں

They said, "O Aziz! Indeed, he has a father old [great], so take one of us (in) his place. Indeed, we [we] see you of the good-doers."

Chinese Commentary ^*

اردہ تفصیرِ صغیر نوٹس ^*

عَزِیْز کا لفظ سردارِ دربار یا وزیر کے لئے بولا جاتا ہے۔ وہی ترجمہ ہم نے کیا ہے۔

English - Arberry

They said, 'Mighty prince, he has a father, aged and great with years; so take one of us in his place; we see that thou art one of the good-doers.'

English - Maududi

They said: "O powerful chief (al-aziz)! His father is an age-stricken man, (and in order that he may not suffer) seize one of us in his stead. We indeed consider you an excellent person."

English - Ahmed Ali

They said: "O Minister, he has an aged father, so keep one of us in his place. We see you are a virtuous man."

English - Yusuf Ali

They said: "O exalted one! Behold! he has a father, aged and venerable, (who will grieve for him); so take one of us in his place; for we see that thou art (gracious) in doing good."
