And when it is said to them, ‘Guard yourselves against that which is before you and that which is behind you, in order that you may receive mercy,’ they turn away.
اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ
اور جب انہیں کہا جاتا ہے کہ تقویٰ اختیار کرو اُن امور میں جو تمہارے سامنے ہیں اور ان میں بھی جو تمہارے پسِ پشت ہیں تاکہ تم رحم کئے جاؤ (تو وہ توجہ نہیں دیتے)۔

Et lorsqu’on leur dit : « Prémunissez-vous contre ce qui est devant vous, et ce qui est derrière vous afin que miséricorde vous soit faite, »

Und wenn zu ihnen gesprochen wird: "Hütet euch vor dem, was vor euch ist und was hinter euch ist*, auf dass ihr Erbarmen findet" (dann kehren sie sich ab).

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر
اور جب ان سے کہا جائے کہ جو کچھ تمہارے آگے آنے والا ہے (اس سے بچو) اور جو اعمال تم پیچھے چھوڑ آئے ہو ان کی جزا سے بھی بچنے کی کوشش[4] کرو تا کہ تم پر رحم کیا جائے (تو وہ نصیحت پکڑنے کی بجائے اس کی تحقیر کرتے ہیں اور فائدہ نہیں اٹھاتے[5])
یعنی آئندہ کے لئے دعا اور گذشتہ کے لئے توبہ کے ذریعہ۔
یہاں جزا محذوف ہے جس کو ہم نے عبارت کے مطابق ظاہر کر دیا ہے۔

And when it is said to them, ‘Guard yourselves against that which is before[2448] you through prayer, and that which is behind[2449] you through repentance, that you may receive mercy,’ they turn away.
The evil consequences of your future evil deeds.
The results of the wicked deeds you might have done in the past.

And when it is said to them, ‘Guard yourselves against that which is before you through prayer, and that which is behind you through repentance, that you may receive mercy,’ they turn away.[3244]
Commentary:
The words مابین ایدیکم may mean, "the evil consequences of your future evil deeds" and ماخلفکم may mean "the results of the wicked deeds you might have done in the past."

اِن لوگوں سے جب کہا جاتا ہے کہ بچو اُس انجام سے جو تمہارے آگے آ رہا ہے اور تمہارے پیچھے گزر چکا ہے، شاید کہ تم پر رحم کیا جائے (تو یہ سنی اَن سنی کر جاتے ہیں)
