مَن يَأْتِيهِ عَذَابٌ يُخْزِيهِ وَيَحِلُّ عَلَيْهِ عَذَابٌ مُّقِيمٌ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

‘Who it is unto whom comes a punishment that will disgrace him, and on whom there descends an abiding punishment.’

(کہ) کس تک وہ عذاب پہنچتا ہے جو اسے ذلیل کر دے اور کون ہے جس پر آ کر ٹھہر جانے والا عذاب اترتا ہے۔

über wen eine Strafe kommt, die ihn schänden wird, und auf wen eine ewige Strafe niederfährt."

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

(کہ) کس کو ایسا عذاب آتا ہے جو اُسے رسوا کر دیتا ہے اور کس پر وہ عذاب آتا ہے جو دائمی ہوتا ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

[a]‘Who it is unto whom comes a punishment that will disgrace him, and on whom there descends an abiding punishment?’

11:40.

Commentary:

The verse mentions two kinds of punishment which is in store for rejecters of truth. عذاب یخزیه (punishment that will disgrace him) denotes the punishment in the form of ignominy and humiliation to which they will be subjected in this life and عذاب مقیم (abiding punishment) is the punishment of the next life which will be of much longer duration. Almost everywhere in the Quran the word خزیdenotes disgrace and humiliation in this world. See 2:86, 115; 5:34, 42; 11:67; 22:10; 41:17; etc.

کہ کس پر رسوا کن عذاب آتا ہے اور کسے وہ سزا ملتی ہے جو کبھی ٹلنے والی نہیں"

English - Sahih

To whom will come a torment disgracing him and on whom will descend an enduring punishment."
