أَمْ ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْ كِتَٰبًا مِّن قَبْلِهِۦ فَهُم بِهِۦ مُسْتَمْسِكُونَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Have We given them a Scripture before this, so that they are holding fast to it?

کیا ہم نے اِس سے پہلے انہیں کوئی کتاب دی تھی جس سے وہ مضبوطی سے چمٹے ہوئے ہیں؟

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

کیا ہم نے ان کو اس (قرآن) سے پہلے کوئی ایسی کتاب دی ہے (جس میں یہ بات لکھی ہے) کہ وہ اس کے ذریعہ سے دلیل پکڑ رہے ہیں۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

[c]Have We given them a Scripture before this, so that they are holding fast[2674] to it?

37:157, 158; 68:38.

Idol-worshippers not only do not possess any reason or argument to uphold their irrational doctrines, they cannot even adduce the evidence of any Divine Scripture in their support.

Commentary:

The verse means to say that idol-worshippers not only do not possess any reason or argument to uphold their irrational doctrines, they cannot even adduce the evidence of a Divine Scripture in their support.

کیا ہم نے اِس سے پہلے کوئی کتاب اِن کو دی تھی جس کی سند (اپنی اِس ملائکہ پرستی کے لیے) یہ اپنے پاس رکھتے ہوں؟
