43:21

وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْ شَآءَ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ مَا عَبَدْنَٰهُم ۗ مَّا لَهُم بِذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ ۖ إِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And they say, ‘If the Gracious God had so willed, we should not have worshipped them.’ They have no knowledge whatsoever of that. They do nothing but conjecture.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور وہ کہتے ہیں اگر رحمان چاہتا تو ہم ان کی پوجا نہ کرتے۔ انہیں اس بات کا کچھ بھی علم نہیں وہ تو محض اٹکل پچو سے کام لیتے ہیں۔

French

Et ils disent : « Si le Dieu Gracieux l’avait voulu, nous ne les aurions pas adorés. » Ils n’en savent absolument rien. Ils ne se livrent qu’à des conjectures.

German

Und sie sprechen: "Hätte der Gnadenreiche es gewollt, wir würden sie nicht verehrt haben." Sie haben keinerlei Kenntnis hiervon; sie vermuten nur.

Chinese

他们说: [d]“如果无限博爱的 (安拉) 愿意,我们就不崇拜他们了。”他们对此没有知识, 只是揣度而已。

Italian

E dicono: «Se il Dio Clemente lo avesse voluto, noi non li avremmo adorati.» Non hanno conoscenza alcuna di questo. Non fanno che congetture.

Spanish

Mas dicen: “Si el Dios Clemente así lo hubiese querido, no los habríamos adorado”. No tienen conocimiento alguno de ello. No hacen más que conjeturas.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور وہ کہتے ہیں اگر رحمن (خدا) چاہتا تو ہم اس کے سوا دوسرے معبودوں کی پرستش نہ کرتے۔ یہ بات وہ محض ڈھکونسلے سے کہتے ہیں اس کا انہیں حقیقی علم ہرگز حاصل نہیں۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And they say, [b]‘If the Gracious God had so willed, we should not have worshipped them.’ They have no knowledge whatsoever of that. They do nothing but conjecture.

English - Five Volume Translation

And they say, [b]‘If the Gracious God had so willed, we should not have worshipped them.’ They have no knowledge whatsoever of that. They do but conjecture.[3655]

Commentary:

It is human nature that man always tries to shift the responsibility for his sins to others. Here quite unblushingly the idolaters protest that they are helpless creatures in the hands of God. If He had so willed, He would have stopped them from idol-worship.

The words "they have no knowledge whatsoever of that," signify that no reason or argument based on knowledge can be adduced in support of idol worship. It is all based on foolish conjecture and surmise.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

یہ کہتے ہیں "اگر خدائے رحمٰن چاہتا (کہ ہم اُن کی عبادت نہ کریں) تو ہم کبھی اُن کو نہ پوجتے" یہ اس معاملے کی حقیقت کو قطعی نہیں جانتے، محض تیر تکے لڑاتے ہیں

English - Sahih

And they said, "If the Most Merciful had willed, we would not have worshipped them." They have of that no knowledge. They are not but falsifying.

اور کہتے ہیں اگر رحمان چاہتا تو ہم انہیں نہ پوجتے انہیں اس کی کچھ خبر نہیں وہ محض اٹکل دوڑاتے ہیں

English - Talal Itani

And they say, "If had willed the Most Gracious, we would not have worshipped them." Not they have about that any knowledge. Nothing they (do) but lie.

They say, 'Had the All-merciful so willed, we would not have served them.' They have no knowledge of that; they are only conjecturing.

English - Maududi

They say: “Had the Merciful One so willed, we would never have worshipped these deities.” But they have no knowledge of the matter and are simply conjecturing.

English - Ahmed Ali

Yet they say: "If Ar-Rahman had so pleased we would not have worshipped them." They have no knowledge of it in the least. They only make up lies.

English - Yusuf Ali

("Ah!") they say, "If it had been the will of (Allah) Most Gracious, we should not have worshipped such (deities)!" Of that they have no knowledge! they do nothing but lie!
