وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَٰهِيمُ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦٓ إِنَّنِى بَرَآءٌ مِّمَّا تَعْبُدُونَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And remember when Abraham said to his father and his people: ‘I positively disown what you worship,

اور (یاد کرو) جب ابراہیم نے اپنے باپ سے اوراپنی قوم سے کہا کہ یقیناً میں اُس سے سخت بیزار ہوں جس کی تم عبادت کرتے ہو۔

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور (یاد کرو) جب ابراہیم نے اپنے باپ سے اور اپنی قوم سے کہا تھا کہ جن (ہستیوں کی تم عبادت کرتے ہو‘ میں ان سے سوائے اس (خدا) کے جس نے مجھے پیدا کیا ہے بیزار ہوں‘ اور وہ مجھے یقیناً ہدایت دے گا۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And call to mind when Abraham said to his father and his people, [b]‘I do, indeed, disown what you worship,

6:79; 9:114; 60:5.

English - Five Volume Translation

And remember when [b]Abraham said to his father and his people: ‘I definitely disown what you worship,[3659]

6:79; 9:114; 60:5.

Commentary:

By citing the example of Abraham, the great progenitor of the Arabs, the verse seeks to drive home to them the untenability of the plea of ancestral beliefs and customs. It appears to say to them, "If you do not accept the Message of Islam because by so doing you have to renounce the beliefs of your forefathers, then at least follow Abraham, your own great ancestor who was a strict and sincere believer in the Unity of God."

یاد کرو وہ وقت جب ابراہیمؑ نے اپنے باپ اور اپنی قوم سے کہا تھا کہ "تم جن کی بندگی کرتے ہو میرا اُن سے کوئی تعق نہیں

And [mention, O Muhammad], when Abraham said to his father and his people, "Indeed, I am disassociated from that which you worship
