اُمُّ الْكِتَاب (Ummul-Kitab) 表示命谕的来源, 说明 «古兰经» 作为 شَرِيْعَة (Shari‘ah, 宗教的基础) 存在于安拉的知识--------本源--------之中, 也可以表示, «古兰经» 是真主最后经律的基础, 而这是安拉的永恒旨令。
اس جگہ ایک استعارہ استعمال کیا گیا ہے کہ تمام شریعتیں کسی اصل کے نیچے ہوتی ہیں اور وہ اصل کتاب کے لئے بطور ماں کے ہوتا ہے جس طرح ایک عورت انسانوں کے لئے ماں ہوتی ہے چنانچہ اللہ تعالیٰ فرماتا ہے کہ یہ قرآن اُمُّ الْکِتَابِ میں ہے یعنی جو اصولی کتاب دنیا میں نازل کرنی خداتعالیٰ کے مدنظر تھی اس میں یہ قرآن شامل تھا۔ گویا ازل سے خداتعالیٰ کے یہ مدنظر تھا کہ دنیا کی کامل ہدایت کے لئے وہ قرآن کریم بھجوائے گا۔
Ummul-Kitab, meaning sources of the commandments (Lane), the expression signifies that the Qur’an existed in the knowledge of God—the Original Source—as the basis of the Shari‘ah, or it may signify that it was eternally decreed that the Qur’an would form the basis of the last Divine Law.

Commentary:
The word أم signifying the original source, the expression انه فی أم الکتاب would mean that the Quran existed in the knowledge of God—the original source, or it may signify that this was in the knowledge of God and was eternally decreed that the Quran would form the basis of the Last Perfect Law which God would reveal for the guidance of humanity.
