59:16

كَمَثَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ قَرِيبًا ۖ ذَاقُوا۟ وَبَالَ أَمْرِهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Their case is like the case of those who have, a short time before them, tasted the evil consequences of their doings. And for them is a painful punishment.

(یہ) ان لوگوں کی طرح (ہیں) جو اُن سے تھوڑا عرصہ پہلے اپنے اعمال کا وبال چکھ چکے ہیں اور ان کے لئے دردناک عذاب (مقدر) ہے۔

Leur cas est pareil à celui de ceux qui, peu de temps avant eux, ont goûté les mauvaises conséquences de leur conduite. Et pour eux il y a un châtiment douloureux.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

ان کا حال ان (قوموں) کی طرح ہے جو ان سے پہلے قریب زمانہ میںگذر چکی ہیں انہوں نے اپنے کاموں کا انجام دیکھ لیا اور ان کو دردناک عذاب پہنچا۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

Their case is like the case of those people who passed away only a short time before them. They tasted the evil consequences of their evil conduct.[3027] And for them is a painful punishment.

The reference may be to the Quraish of Mecca who sustained ignominious defeat at Badr, or to Banu Qainuqa‘ who were punished for their mischiefs and machinations after Badr. The latter were the first of the three Jewish tribes who were banished from Medina one month after the Battle of Badr because they had broken their pledged word with the Holy Prophet. Eventually they settled in Syria.

Their case is like the case of those who have, a short time before them, tasted the evil consequences of their doings. And for them is a painful punishment.[4201]

Commentary:

The reference in the verse may be to the Quraish of Mecca who sustained an ignominious defeat at Badr or to BanuQainuqa‘ who were punished for their mischief and machinations after Badr. They were the first of the three Jewish tribes who broke their pledged word with the Holy Prophet and were banished from Medina one month after the Battle of Badr. They settled in Syria.
