عَصَمَ , aor.
عَصِمَ , (K, TA,) inf. n. عَصْمٌ, (TA,)
i. q. مَنَعَ [as meaning He, or it, prevented, or
hindered: or, as is generally the case, defended,
or protected]: (K, TA:) this is [said to be] the
primary signification: (TA: [but see عِصْمَةٌ])
and he, or it, preserved, or kept; syn. وَقَى: (K,
TA:) and it withheld (أَمْسَكَ) a thing. (TA.)
One says, عَصَمَهُ الطَّعَامُ [for عَصَمَهُ مِنَ الجُوعِ]
The food prevented him, or defended him, (مَنَعَهُ,)
from being hungry. (S, K.) And عَصَمَهُ ٱللّٰهُ,
(Mgh, Msb, TA,) aor. as above, (Msb, TA,) inf. n.
عِصْمَةٌ, (Mgh,) or this is a simple subst., (Msb,)
and the inf. n. is عَصْمٌ, (TA,) God defended, or
protected, him; (TA;) or preserved him; (Mgh,
Msb, TA;) مِنَ السُّوْءِ [from evil], (Mgh,) or
مِنَ المَكْرُوهِ [from what was disliked, or hated].
(Msb.) And عَصَمْتُهُ I [defended, or protected,
him; or] preserved him. (S.) ―

عَصَمَ القِرْبَةَ, (K, TA,) aor.
عَصِمَ , inf. n. عَصْمٌ, (TA,)
He put, or made, to the water-skin, an عِصَام;
(K, TA;) as also ↓ أَعْصَمَهَا: (ISk, S, K, TA:)
or the latter signifies, (TA,) or signifies also,
(K,) he bound it with the عِصَام, (K, TA,) i. e.
the [tie called] وِكَآء [which is bound round its
head to confine the contents]. (TA.) ＝

قَالَتْ فَذَٰلِكُنَّ ٱلَّذِى لُمْتُنَّنِى فِيهِ ۖ وَلَقَدْ رَٰوَدتُّهُۥ عَن نَّفْسِهِۦ فَٱسْتَعْصَمَ ۖ وَلَئِن لَّمْ يَفْعَلْ مَآ ءَامُرُهُۥ لَيُسْجَنَنَّ وَلَيَكُونًا مِّنَ ٱلصَّٰغِرِينَ
English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
She said, ‘And this is he about whom you blamed me. I did seek to seduce him against his will, but he preserved himself from sin. And now if he do not what I bid him, he shall certainly be imprisoned and become one of the humbled.’
اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ
وہ بولی یہی وہ شخص ہے جس کے بارہ میں تم مجھے ملامت کرتی تھیں اور یقیناً میں نے اسے اس کے نفس کے بارہ میں پھسلانے کی کوشش کی تو وہ بچ گیا اور اگر اس نے وہ نہ کیا جو مَیں اسے حکم دیتی ہوں تو وہ ضرور قید کیا جائے گا اور ضرور ذلیل لوگوں میں سے ہو جائے گا۔

Elle dit : « Et voici celui au sujet de qui vous m’avez blamée. Vraiment, j’ai cherché à le séduire contre son gré, mais il s’est préservé du péché. Et maintenant s’il ne fait pas ce que je lui commande de faire, il sera certainement emprisonné, et humilié. »

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر
(اس پر) اس (عورت) نے انہیں کہا۔ یہ وہی (شخص) ہے۔ جس کے متعلق تم نے مجھے ملامت کی ہے اور میں نے اس سے اس کی مرضی کے خلاف (ایک برا) فعل کروانے کی کوشش ضرور کی تھی (مگر اس پر (بھی) یہ بچا رہا۔ اور اگر اس نے وہ بات جس کے لئے میں اسے حکم دیتی ہوں نہ کی‘ تو یقیناً اسے قید کر دیا جائے گا۔ اور یقیناً وہ ذلیل ہوگا۔

She said, ‘And this is he about whom you blamed me. I did seek to seduce him against his will, but he preserved himself from sin. And now if he do not what I bid him, he shall certainly be imprisoned and become one of the humbled.’

Commentary:
Having made the women admit that their suspicions were baseless and that the sinful act had not yet been committed, Potiphar’s wife made an open confession before her guests who were her friends that she had failed in her efforts to tempt Joseph into sin. This unqualified confession of Potiphar’s wife gives the direct lie to the absurd allegation of some commentators that Joseph had become almost inclined towards committing the foul deed.
Strange are the ways of God. The very way by which this woman sought to bring disgrace upon Joseph proved to be the means of his future greatness.

عزیز کی بیوی نے کہا "دیکھ لیا! یہ ہے یہ وہ شخص جس کے معاملہ میں تم مجھ پر باتیں بناتی تھیں بے شک میں نے اِسے رجھانے کی کوشش کی تھی مگر یہ بچ نکلا اگر یہ میرا کہنا نہ مانے گا تو قید کیا جائے گا اور بہت ذلیل و خوار ہوگا

She said, "That is the one about whom you blamed me. And I certainly sought to seduce him, but he firmly refused; and if he will not do what I order him, he will surely be imprisoned and will be of those debased."

کہا یہی وہ ہے کہ جس کے معاملہ میں تم نے مجھےملامت کی تھی اور البتہ تحقیق میں نے اس سے دلی خواہش ظاہر کی تھی پھر اس نے اپنے آپ کو روک لیا اور اگر وہ میرا کہنا نہ مانے گا تو ضرور قید کر دیا جائے گا اور ذلیل ہو کررہے گا

Commentary:
Having made the women admit that their suspicions were baseless and that the sinful act had not yet been committed, Potiphar’s wife made an open confession before her guests who were her friends that she had failed in her efforts to tempt Joseph into sin.
