[1] شَمَخَ , (S, L, K,) aor. شَمُخَ , inf. n. شُمُوخٌ, (L,) It (a mountain) was high, or lofty. (S, L, K.) ― 2-b2- Hence, (Har p. 442,) شَمَخَ بِأَنْفِهِ, (S, A, L, K,) and شَمَخَ أَنْفُهُ, aor. and inf. n. as above, (L,) He (a man) magnified, or exalted, himself; was proud; (S, A, L, K;) behaved proudly, or disdainfully; elevated his nose, from pride. (L.) [See also زَمَخَ.]

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And We placed thereon high mountains, and gave you sweet water to drink.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور ہم نے اس میں بلند و بالا پہاڑ بنائے اور تمہیں میٹھے پانی سے بافراغت سیراب کیا۔

Et Nous y avons fait de hautes montagnes, et Nous vous avons donné de l’eau douce à boire.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور ہم نے اس میں اونچے پہاڑ بنائے ہیں اور (اس کے نتیجہ میں) تمہیں (بکثرت) میٹھا[3] پانی پلایا ہے۔

یعنی زمین میں دینی اور دنیوی بڑی بڑی قابلیتوں کے آدمی پیدا کیے جاتے ہیں اور مادی اور روحانی پانی جو نہایت میٹھا ہوتا ہے ان روحانی اور جسمانی سرداروں کے ذریعہ سے لوگوں کو پلایا جاتا ہے یعنی روحانی لوگ الہام سنا سنا کر ان کی روحانی پیاس کو بجھاتے ہیں اور جسمانی لوگ نہریں اور ٹیوب ویل لگا لگا کر ان تک میٹھا پانی پہنچاتے ہیں۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

[b]And We placed therein high mountains, and gave you sweet water to drink.[3215]

شامخات (high) is derived from شـمخ which means, it was high or lofty.

شـمخ أنفه means, he raised his nose from pride, i.e. he exalted himself, he was proud or behaved proudly. جبل شامخ means, a high or lofty mountain.

نسب شامخ means, a proud or high lineage. (Lane & Aqrab).

رواسی (mountains) is the plural of راسیة and جبال راسیة means, firm mountains (Lane).

Commentary:

The firm and high mountains not only serve as a safeguard against earthquakes but also as natural reservoirs of water on which all life depends for its sustenance.

اور اس میں بلند و بالا پہاڑ جمائے، اور تمہیں میٹھا پانی پلایا؟

And We placed therein lofty, firmly set mountains and have given you to drink sweet water.

اور ہم نے اس میں مضبوط اونچے اونچے پہاڑ رکھ دیئے اور ہم نے تمہیں میٹھا پانی پلایا
