اَوۡ تَقُوۡلُوۡۤا اِنَّمَاۤ اَشۡرَکَ اٰبَآؤُنَا مِنۡ قَبۡلُ وَکُنَّا ذُرِّیَّۃً مِّنۡۢ بَعۡدِہِمۡ ۖ اَفَتُہۡلِکُنَا بِمَا فَعَلَ الۡمُبۡطِلُوۡنَ
English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
Or lest you should say, ‘It was only our fathers who attributed copartners to God in the past and we were merely a generation after them. Wilt Thou then destroy us for what was done by those who lied?’
اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ
یا تم کہہ دو کہ شرک تو پہلے ہمارے آباءو اجداد ہی نے کیا تھا اور ہم تو ان کے بعد آنے والی نسل ہیں۔ تو کیا جھوٹے لوگوں نے جو کیا اُس کے سبب سے تُو ہمیں ہلاک کر دے گا؟

Ou que vous ne disiez : « Jadis nos pères n’étaient que des associateurs, et nous n’étions qu’une génération après eux. Vas-Tu donc nous anéantir pour ce qu’ont fait ceux qui ont menti ? »

O no sea que digáis: “sólo nuestros padres fueron los que atribuyeron copartícipes a Dios en el pasado, y nosotros fuimos simplemente su descendencia. ¿Nos vas a destruir por lo que hicieron los mentirosos?”.
اردو تفسیرِ صغیر
یا یہ کہدو کہ (ہمارے زمانہ سے) پہلے صرف ہمارے باپ دادوں نے شرک کیا تھا۔ اور ہم ان کے بعد ایک کمزور نسل تھے کیا تو ہم کو ان لوگوں کے فعل کے بدلہ میں ہلاک کرے گا جو جھوٹے تھے۔

Or lest you should say, [a]‘It was only our fathers who attributed co-partners to God in the past and we were merely a generation after them. Wilt Thou then destroy us for what was done by those who lied?’[1062]

Commentary:
The appearance of a Prophet also debars the people of his time from urging the plea mentioned in the present verse, for then the truth is made manifest from falsehood and idolatry stands publicly condemned.
اردو ترجمہ مودودی
یا یہ نہ کہنے لگو کہ "شرک کی ابتدا تو ہمارے باپ دادا نے ہم سے پہلے کی تھی اور ہم بعد کو ان کی نسل سے پیدا ہوئے، پھر کیا آپ ہمیں اُس قصور میں پکڑتے ہیں جو غلط کار لوگوں نے کیا تھا"
English - Sahih
Or [lest] you say, "It was only that our fathers associated [others in worship] with Allah before, and we were but descendants after them. Then would You destroy us for what the falsifiers have done?"
