English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

‘So we desired that their Lord should give them in exchange a child better than him in purity and closer in filial affection.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

پس ہم نے چاہا کہ اُن کا ربّ انہیں پاکبازی کے اعتبار سے اس سے بہتر اور زیادہ رحم کرنے والا متبادل عطا کرے۔

Nous avons donc voulu que leur Seigneur leur accordât en échange un enfant meilleur que lui en pureté, et plus proche en amour filial.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

پس ہم نے چاہا کہ ان کا رب ان کو اس (لڑکے) سے پاکیزگی اور رحم و انصاف کے لحاظ سے بہتر (لڑکا بدل کر) دے دے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

‘So we desired that their Lord should give them in exchange one better than he in purity and closer in filial affection;

So we desired that their Lord should give them in exchange a child better than he in purity and closer in filial affection.[2120]

Commentary:

The verse means to say that Islam has laid down these ordinances and commandments so that man may completely subdue his carnal desires and thus experience a new spiritual birth. But, as mentioned above the followers of Moses gave free play to their low passions and, abandoning themselves to a life of ease and pleasure, exceeded all bounds of moderation and sobriety.

اس لیے ہم نے چاہا کہ ان کا رب اس کے بدلے ان کو ایسی اولاد دے جو اخلاق میں بھی اس سے بہتر ہو اور جس سے صلہ رحمی بھی زیادہ متوقع ہو

So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy.
