They shall all appear before Allah; then shall the weak say to those who behaved proudly: ‘Surely, we were your followers; can you not then avail us aught against Allah’s punishment?’ They will say, ‘If Allah had guided us, we would, surely, have guided you. But it is now equal for us whether we show impatience or remain patient: there is no way of escape for us.’

اور اللہ کے حضور وہ اجتماعی طور پر نکل کھڑے ہوں گے۔ پس کمزور لوگ اُن سے جنہوں نے استکبار کیا کہیں گے ہم تو تمہارے ہی پیچھے چلنے والے تھے تو کیا تم اللہ کے عذاب میں سے کچھ تھوڑا سا ہم سے ٹال سکتے ہو۔ وہ کہیں گے اگر اللہ ہمیں ہدایت دیتا تو ہم تمہیں بھی ضرور ہدایت دے دیتے۔ (اب) ہم پر برابر ہے خواہ ہم جزع فزع کریں یا صبر کریں۔ بچ نکلنے کی ہمیں کوئی راہ میسر نہیں۔

French

Ils paraîtront tous devant Allāh ; alors les faibles diront à ceux qui se conduisirent orgueilleusement : « En vérité, nous étions vos suivants, ne pouvez-vous donc nous êtres utiles en quoi que ce soit contre le châtiment d’Allāh ? » Ils diront : « Si Allāh nous avait guidés, nous vous aurions assurément guidés. Mais maintenant cela nous est égal si nous témoignons de l’impatience ou si nous restons patients ; il n’y a pour nous aucun moyen d’échapper. »

Sie werden alle vor Allah hintreten; dann werden die Schwachen zu den Hoffärtigen sprechen: "Gewiss, wir waren eure Gefolgsleute; könnt ihr uns also nicht etwas von der Strafe Allahs abnehmen?" Sie werden sprechen: "Hätte Allah uns den Weg gewiesen, wir hätten euch sicherlich den Weg gewiesen. 他们都将站立在安拉的前面; [e](那被认为) 微弱的人将向骄傲的人说: “我们原来是追随你们的, (现在) 你们能使我们避免一点安拉的惩罚吗?” 他们 (回答) 说: “如果安拉引导了我们, 我们也一定引导你们。(可是现在无能为力,) 无论我们焦急或忍耐, 对我们都是一样的。我们总没有避难之所。”

Essi tutti compariranno davanti ad Allah. Diranno allora i deboli a chi si era comportato con arroganza: «Di certo noi siamo stati vostri seguaci; non potete ora esserci d'aiuto contro il castigo di Allah?» Essi diranno: «Se Allah ci avesse guidati, noi di certo avremmo guidato anche voi. Ma ora per noi è lo stesso, sia che ci mostriamo impazienti, sia che ci mostriamo pazienti. Per noi non c'è scampo.»

Comparecerán todos ante Al-lah; entonces los débiles dirán a quienes se comportaron orgullosamente: "en verdad éramos vuestros seguidores; ¿no podéis pues servirnos de algo contra el castigo de Al‑lah?” Responderán: "Si Al‑lah nos hubiese guiado, ciertamente os habríamos guiado a vosotros. Pero ahora lo mismo da que mostremos impaciencia o permanezcamos pacientes; no tenemos escapatoria."

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور وہ سب اللہ کے حضور آکھڑے ہوں گے‘ تب (ان میں سے) کمزور (سمجھے جانے والے) تکبر کرنے والوں کو کہیں گے(کہ) ہم تو تمہارے پیچھے چلنے والے تھے۔ پس کیا تم اللہ کے عذاب میں سے (اس وقت) کچھ ہم سے دور کر سکتے ہو۔ وہ (جواب میں) کہیں گے کہ اگر اللہ ہمیں ہدایت دیتا تو ہم (بھی) تمہیں ہدایت دیتے (لیکن اب کیا ہو سکتا ہے) ہمارا بے صبری دکھانا یا ہمارا صبر کرنا (اس وقت) ہمارے لئے یکساں ہے‘ (اور) ہمارے لئے بچاؤ کی کوئی صورت نہیں ہے۔

اور یہ لوگ جب اکٹھے اللہ کے سامنے بے نقاب ہوں گے تو اُس وقت اِن میں سے جو دنیا میں کمزور تھے و ہ اُن لوگوں سے جو بڑے بنے ہوئے تھے، کہیں گے "دنیا میں ہم تمہارے تابع تھے، اب کیا تم اللہ کے عذاب سے ہم کو بچانے کے لیے بھی کچھ کرسکتے ہو؟"وہ جواب دیں گے "اگر اللہ نے ہمیں نجات کی کوئی راہ دکھائی ہوتی تو ہم ضرور تمہیں بھی دکھا دیتے اب تو یکساں ہے، خواہ ہم جزع فزع کریں یا صبر، بہرحال ہمارے بچنے کی کوئی صورت نہیں"

And they will come out [for judgement] before Allah all together, and the weak will say to those who were arrogant, "Indeed, we were your followers, so can you avail us anything against the punishment of Allah?" They will say, "If Allah had guided us, we would have guided you. It is all the same for us whether we show intolerance or are patient: there is for us no place of escape."

اوریہ سب الله کے سامنے کھڑیں ہوں گے تب کمزور متکبروں سے کہیں گے ہم تو تمہارے تابع تھے سوہمیں الله کے عذاب سے کچھ بچاؤ گے وہ کہیں گے اگر ہمیں الله ہدایت کرتا تو ہم تمہیں ہدایت کرتے اب ہمارے لیے برابر ہے کہ ہم چیخیں چلائیں یا صبر کریں ہمارے بچنے کی کوئی صورت نہیں

They say, 'If God had guided us, we would have guided you. Alike it is for us whether we cannot endure, or whether we are patient; we have no asylum.'

Then all of them will appear exposed before Allah, and the weak ones will say to the haughty ones: "We merely followed you. Will you, then, protect us from Allah's chastisement?" They will say: "Had Allah shown us the Way to our salvation, we would surely have also guided you. Now it is all the same whether we cry or suffer patiently, we have no escape."

Important Words:

برزوا (they shall appear) is derived from برز which means, he came out in the open country; he appeared before men after being hidden. ابرزالکتاب means, he made the book public; he published it. بارز العدو means, he came out (of his camp etc.) and fought the enemy. تبرز means, he went into the open country to answer the call of nature (Aqrab).

Commentary:

The words, They shall all appear before Allah, embody a great truth about the decline and Fall of nations. It is not so much the actual weaknesses and misdeeds of a people that bring about their downfall as the exposure of their weaknesses. With their weaknesses having become exposed, their prestige and reputation, which more than their achievements are the mainstay of their success, suffer a mortal blow, lowering them in the estimation of rival communities and bringing in their wake decline and decadence. The words quoted above thus mean that God will lift the veil from the iniquities of the sinful and will expose them to public view, because from Him nothing is hidden.

The verse also sheds some light on another important principle about the rise and fall of nations. A people who are destined to perish give way to despair and become readily resigned to their low state, as hinted at in the words, it is now equal for us whether we show impatience or remain patient: there is no way of escape for us. On the contrary, a people for whom a bright future waits continue to make ceaseless efforts to improve their condition till all signs of decline and degeneration disappear and their feet are set firmly on the road to success and prosperity.

It is not so much the actual misdeeds of a people that bring about their downfall as the exposure of their weaknesses. With their weaknesses having become exposed, their prestige and reputation which, more than their achievements, are the mainstay of their success, suffer a mortal blow, lowering them in the estimation of rival communities and bringing in their wake their decline and decadence. This is the significance of the verse, 'they shall appear before Allah.'
