English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And We certainly gave Moses the Book, but differences were created therein; and had it not been for a word already gone forth from thy Lord, surely, the matter would have been decided between them long before; and now these people are in a disquieting doubt concerning it.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور ہم نے یقیناً موسیٰ کو بھی کتاب دی تھی تو اس میں بھی اختلاف کیا گیا۔ اور اگر تیرے ربّ کی طرف سے پہلے ہی ایک فرمان گزر نہ چکا ہوتا تو ضرور ان کے درمیان فیصلہ چکا دیا جاتا۔ اور وہ یقیناً اس کے متعلق ایک بے چین کرنے والے شک میں مبتلا ہیں۔

French

Et, certainement, Nous donnâmes à Moïse le Livre, mais des divergences surgirent à son sujet et n’eût été une décision de ton Seigneur déjà prononcée, l’affaire aurait été décidée entre euxdepuis longtemps par Allāh ; et maintenant, ces gens ont des doutes perturbants à son sujet.

German

Und ganz gewiss haben Wir Moses die Schrift gegeben, doch dann entstand Uneinigkeit über sie; und wäre nicht schon zuvor ein Wort von deinem Herrn ergangen, es wäre zwischen ihnen entschieden; und (jetzt) sind sie in beunruhigendem Zweifel darüber.

[a]我确已赐予穆撒经典, 但关于这部经典, 分歧 (也) 被制造出来了。如果不是你的养主有言在先, 他们之间的 (事情) 必然早被判决。[628]现在这些人确在不安的怀疑中。

41:46.

人们的罪过是如此地深重, 因此, 如果没有一种命令预先告诉他们: 人类是为了精神进步而被创造出来, 但最终他们将成为安拉仁慈的对象 (7:157; 11:120; 51:57) 的话, 那么, 他们早已被毁灭了。

E Noi certamente demmo a Mosè il libro, ma ne nacquero divergenze. E se non fosse stato per una parola precedente dal tuo Signore, certo la questione sarebbe stata risolta fra loro assai prima. E ora questo popolo si trova a suo riguardo in preda a dubbi angosciosi.

Ciertamente entregamos a Moisés el Libro; pero sobre él surgieron diferencias; y de no haber sido por una palabra pronunciada ya por tu Señor, el asunto habría sido, en verdad, decidido entre ellos mucho antes; y ahora estas gentes están en una duda inquietante respecto a él.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور ہم نے (اختلافات مٹانے کے لئے) یقیناً موسیٰ کو (بھی) کتاب (یعنی تورات) دی تھی پھر (کچھ مدت کے بعد) اس کے متعلق (بھی) اختلاف کیا گیا اور اگر وہ (رحمت کے وعدہ والی) بات جو تیرے رب کی طرف سے پہلے (سے) نازل ہو چکی ہے (مانع) نہ ہوتی تو ان کے درمیان (کبھی) کا فیصلہ کیا جا چکا ہوتا۔ اور اب تو وہ اس (کتاب یعنی قرآن) کے متعلق (بھی) ایک بے چین کر دینے والے شک میں (پڑے ہوئے) ہیں۔

And [a]We certainly gave Moses the Book, but differences were created therein; and had it not been for a word already gone forth from thy Lord, surely the matter would have been decided between them long before;[1352] and now these people are in a disquieting doubt concerning it.

41:46.

So serious was the guilt of men that if there had not been a decree preordained that mankind had been created for spiritual progress and that eventually they would become the object of Divine mercy (7:157; 11:120; 51:57), they would have been destroyed long ago.

And [a]We certainly gave Moses the Book, but differences were created therein; and had it not been for a word already gone forth from thy Lord, surely the matter would have been decided between them long before; and now these people are in a disquieting doubt concerning it.[1491]

41:46.

Commentary:

Towards the end of the Surah the Quran reverts to the theme with which it began and declares that God continued to send down His word in the ages so that people might benefit by it but they always failed to do so. God gave a book to Moses and that book spoke of another book (i.e. the Quran) which was to be revealed later, but people raised doubts about it and did not pause to think that their attitude would produce grave results.

The words, Surely the matter would have been decided between them long before, mean that so serious was their guilt that if there had not been a decree pre-ordained, that mankind had been created for spiritual progress by becoming the object of Divine mercy (7:157; 11:120; 51:57), they would have long been destroyed.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

ہم اس سے پہلے موسیٰؑ کو بھی کتاب دے چکے ہیں اور اس کے بارے میں بھی اختلاف کیا گیا تھا (جس طرح آج اِس کتاب کے بارے میں کیا جا رہا ہے جو تمہیں دی گئی ہے) اگر تیرے رب کی طرف سے ایک بات پہلے ہی طے نہ کر دی گئی ہوتی تو اِن اختلاف کرنے والوں کے درمیان کبھی کا فیصلہ چکا دیا گیا ہوتا یہ واقعہ ہے کہ یہ لوگ اس کی طرف سے شک اور خلجان میں پڑے ہوئے ہیں

English - Sahih

And We had certainly given Moses the Scripture, but it came under disagreement. And if not for a word that preceded from your Lord, it would have been judged between them. And indeed they are, concerning the Qur'an, in disquieting doubt.

اور البتہ ہم نے موسیٰ کو کتاب دی تھی پھراس میں اختلاف کیا گیا اور اگر تیرے رب کی طرف سے ایک بات مقرر نہ ہو چکی ہوتی تو ان میں فیصلہ ہو جاتا اور بے شک اس کی طرف سے ایسے شک میں ہیں کہ مطمئن نہیں ہو نے دیتا

اور ہم نے موسیٰ کو بھی ایک اعلیٰ کتاب دی تھی اور اس کے بارہ میں بھی اختلاف کیا گیا تھا اور اگر ایک بات تیرے رب کی طرف سے پہلے گذر نہ چکی ہوتی تو ان لوگوں کا کبھی کا فیصلہ ہو چکا ہوتا۔ وہ اس (قرآن) کے بارے میں ایک ایسے شک میں پڑے ہوئے ہیں جو ان کے امن کو کاٹ دیتا ہے (یعنی انتہائی شکوک میں مبتلا رہتے ہیں اور اس پر غور نہیں کرتے) ۔

Commentary:

The words, the matter would have been decided between them, signify that the guilt of disbelievers was so serious and patent that they would have been destroyed long ago, had it not been for the fact that God had created mankind for spiritual progress and that men might receive His mercy. The Divine punishment is deferred and postponed also because during the interval many of the enemies of truth may have an opportunity to accept the same. See also 7:157 & 11:111, 120.

اِس سے پہلے ہم نے موسیٰؑ کو کتاب دی تھی اور اس کے معاملے میں بھی یہی اختلاف ہوا تھا اگر تیرے رب نے پہلے ہی ایک بات طے نہ کر دی ہوتی تو ان اختلاف کرنے والوں کے درمیان فیصلہ چکا دیا جاتا اور حقیقت یہ ہے کہ یہ لوگ اُس کی طرف سے سخت اضطراب انگیز شک میں پڑے ہوئے ہیں
