And he raised his parents upon the throne, and they all fell down prostrate before God for him. And he said, ‘O my father, this is the fulfilment of my dream of old. My Lord has made it true. And He bestowed a favour upon me when He took me out of the prison and brought you from the desert after Satan had stirred up discord between me and my brethren. Surely, my Lord is Benignant to whomsoever He pleases; for He is the All-Knowing, the Wise.

اور اس نے اپنے والدین کو عزت کے ساتھ تخت پر بٹھایا اور وہ سب اس کی خاطر سجدہ ریز ہو گئے۔ اور اس نے کہا اے میرے باپ! یہ تعبیر تھی میری پہلے سے دیکھی ہوئی رؤیا کی۔ میرے ربّ نے اسے یقیناً سچ کر دکھایا اور مجھ پر بہت احسان کیا جب اس نے مجھے قید خانہ سے نکالا اور تمہیں صحرا سے لے آیا بعد اس کے کہ شیطان نے میرے اور میرے بھائیوں کے درمیان رخنہ ڈال دیا تھا۔ یقیناً میرا ربّ جس کے لئے چاہے بہت لطف و احسان کرنے والا ہے۔ بے شک وہی دائمی علم رکھنے والا (اور) بہت حکمت والا ہے۔

French

Et il éleva ses parents sur le trône, et ils se prosternèrent tous devant Allāh pour lui. Et il dit : « Ô mon père, voici l’accomplissement de mon songe d’autrefois. Mon Seigneur l’a rendu vrai. Et Il m’a accordé une grâce lorsqu’Il m’a tiré de la prison et lorsqu’Il vous a fait venir du désert après que Satan eût fomenté la discorde entre moi et mes frères. Assurément, mon Seigneur est Bienveillant envers qui Il veut ; car Il est l’Omniscient, le Sage. »

German

Und er hob seine Eltern auf den Thron, und sie warfen sich (alle) nieder (vor Gott) um seinetwillen. Und er sprach: "O mein Vater, dies ist die Erfüllung meines Traums von einst. Mein Herr hat ihn wahr gemacht. Und Er hat gnädig an mir gehandelt, als Er mich aus dem Kerker führte und euch aus der Wüste herbrachte, nachdem Satan zwischen mir und meinen Brüdern Zwietracht gestiftet hatte. Wahrlich mein Herr ist gütig zu wem Er will; denn Er ist der Allwissende, der Allweise.

E fece salire i suoi genitori sul trono e tutti caddero prostrati davanti a Dio per lui. Ed egli disse: «O padre mio, questo è l'adempimento del mio sogno d'un tempo. Il mio Signore lo ha fatto avverare. Ed Egli mi è stato benevolo quando mi ha tratto di prigione e ha portato voi dal deserto, dopo che Satana aveva provocato la discordia tra me e i miei fratelli. Sicuramente, il mio Signore è Benevolo verso chiunque Gli piaccia, poiché Egli è l'Onnisciente, il Sapiente.

Y elevó a sus padres hasta el trono y todos ellos cayeron postrados ante Dios por él. Y él dijo: “Oh, padre mío, éste es el cumplimiento de mi antiguo sueño. Mi Señor lo ha convertido en realidad. Él me concedió Su gracia cuando me sacó de la prisión y os trajo del desierto después de que Satanás hubiera sembrado la discordia entre mis hermanos y yo. En verdad, mi Señor es Benigno con quien le place; pues Él es el Omnisciente, el Sabio”.

اور اس نے اپنے ماں باپ کو اپنے تخت پر بٹھایا اور وہ (سب) اس کی وجہ سے (خدا کا شکر کرتے ہوئے) سجدہ میں گر گئے اور اس نے (یعنی یوسف نے) کہا اے میرے باپ! یہ میرے پہلے سے (خواب میں) دیکھی ہوئی بات کی تعبیر[2] ہے۔اللہ نے اسے پورا کر دیا ہے اور اس نے مجھ پر (بہت بڑا) فضل کیا ہے کیونکہ اس نے (پہلے) مجھے قیدخانہ سے نکالا اور (مجھے اس عزت کے مقام پر پہنچا کر اس کے بعد) وہ تمہیں جنگل (علاقہ) سے (نکال کر اس وقت میرے پاس) لایا جب شیطان نے مجھ میں اور میرے بھائیوں میں بگاڑ پیدا کر دیا تھا۔ میرا رب جس سے چاہتا ہے لطف (واحسان) کا معاملہ کرتا ہے۔ یقینا وہی (ہے جو) خوب جاننے والا (اور) حکمت والا ہے۔

And he raised his parents upon the throne[1411] and they all fell down prostrate before Allah for him.[1412] And he said, ‘O my father, this is the fulfilment of my dream of old. My Lord has made it come true. And He bestowed a favour upon me when He took me out of the prison[1413] and brought you from the desert after Satan had stirred up discord between me and my brethren. English - Sahih

And he raised his parents upon the throne, and they bowed to him in prostration. And he said, "O my father, this is the explanation of my vision of before. My Lord has made it reality. And He was certainly good to me when He took me out of prison and brought you [here] from bedouin life after Satan had induced [estrangement] between me and my brothers. Indeed, my Lord is Subtle in what He wills. Indeed, it is He who is the Knowing, the Wise.

And he raised his parents upon the throne and they fell down to him prostrate. And he said, "O my father! This (is the) interpretation (of) my dream, (of) before. Verily, has made it my Lord true. And indeed, He was good to me when He took me out of the prison, and brought you from the bedouin life after [that] had caused discord the Shaitaan between me and between my brothers. Indeed, my Lord (is) Most Subtle to what He wills. Indeed, He, He (is) the All-Knower, the All-Wise.

یعنی جو خواب میں دیکھا تھا کہ چاند‘ سورج اور ستارے میری وجہ سے سجدہ کر رہے ہیں۔ وہ بات پوری ہوگئی۔ اور آج آپ لوگ میرے مل جانے کی خوشی میں اللہ تعالیٰ کو سجدہ کر رہے ہیں۔

And he lifted his father and mother upon the throne; and the others fell down prostrate before him. 'See, father,' he said, 'this is the interpretation of my vision of long ago; my Lord has made it true. He was good to me when He brought me forth from the prison, and again when He brought you out of the desert, after that Satan set at variance me and my brethren. My Lord is gentle to what He will; He is the All-knowing, the All-wise.

And after they had entered the city, Joseph raised his parents to the throne beside himself, and they (involuntarily) bowed in prostration before him. Joseph said: "Father! This is the fulfilment of the vision I had before - one that My Lord has caused to come true. Commentary:

As the word رفع (raised) also means, "to present one to a person of high rank" (3:56), the verse is capable of two interpretations: Firstly, that Joseph presented his parents to the King, for in this case العرش (the throne) would signify the King. According to the Bible, Joseph presented his father and some of his brethren to Pharaoh (Gen. 47:2, 7). Secondly, it may mean that Joseph made his parents sit on his own throne, for in ancient times the deputies of kings also used to have their own thrones. Hence it is possible that Joseph made his parents and his brethren sit on his throne with Pharaoh’s permission.

The words خروا له سجدا do not mean that Joseph’s brothers and his parents fell prostrate before him. They only mean that they fell prostrate before God for Joseph i.e. they thanked God for raising Joseph to such an eminent position. Thus, Joseph was the cause and not the object of their prostration. See also 2:35.

The verse also throws some light on the sublime morals of God’s noble Prophets. Joseph’s brothers had left their home in search of food, but he speaks of their coming to him as a special favour of God to himself.

Again, while mentioning God’s favours he refers only to his being taken out of prison and makes no mention of being rescued from the well, lest his brothers might feel ashamed.

The word لطیف (Benignant) when applied to God, means, He Who takes care of His creatures through love or benevolence or Who benefits others with His love and kindness; He Who knows hidden things. See also 6:104.

The words may mean that Joseph presented his parents to the King (Gen. 47: 2, 7) or that he made them sit on his own throne with the King’s permission. In olden times the ministers and deputies of kings also had their own thrones.

Joseph’s brothers and parents fell prostrate and thanked God for raising Joseph to such an eminent position. Thus Joseph was the cause, and not the object, of their prostration.

While mentioning God’s favours Joseph refers only to his being taken out of prison and makes no mention of being rescued from the well, lest his brothers should feel ashamed.
