قُلۡ ہَلُمَّ شُہَدَآءَکُمُ الَّذِیۡنَ یَشۡہَدُوۡنَ اَنَّ اللّٰہَ حَرَّمَ ہٰذَا ۖ فَاِنۡ شَہِدُوۡا فَلَا تَشۡہَدۡ مَعَہُمۡ ۚ وَلَا تَتَّبِعۡ اَہۡوَآءَ الَّذِیۡنَ کَذَّبُوۡا بِاٰیٰتِنَا وَالَّذِیۡنَ لَا یُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ بِالۡاٰخِرَۃِ وَہُمۡ بِرَبِّہِمۡ یَعۡدِلُوۡنَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Say, ‘Bring forward your witnesses who testify that Allah has forbidden this.’ If they bear witness, bear thou not witness with them, nor follow thou the evil inclinations of those who treat Our Signs as lies and those who believe not in the Hereafter and who set up equals to their Lord.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

تو کہہ دے تم اپنے ان گواہوں کو بلاؤ تو سہی جو یہ گواہی دیتے ہیں کہ اللہ نے ان چیزوں کو حرام کر دیا ہے۔ پس اگر وہ گواہی دیں تو تُو ہرگز اُن کے ساتھ گواہی نہ دے اور اُن لوگوں کی خواہشات کی پیروی نہ کر جنہوں نے ہمارے نشانات کو جھٹلایا اور جو آخرت پر ایمان نہیں لاتے اور وہ اپنے ربّ کا شریک ٹھہراتے ہیں۔

French

Dis : « Produisez vos témoins qui attestent qu’Allāh a interdit ceci. » S’ils témoignent, ne témoigne pas avec eux, et ne suis pas les mauvais penchants de ceux qui traitent Nos Signes de mensonges, ni de ceux qui ne croient pas à l’au-delà et qui élèvent des égaux à leur Seigneur.

German

Sprich: "Her mit euren Zeugen, die bezeugen, Allah habe dies verboten!" Wenn sie bezeugen, so lege du nicht Zeugnis ab mit ihnen und folge nicht den bösen Gelüsten derer, die Unsere Zeichen als Lügen behandelten und die nicht an das Kommende glauben und die andere gleichstellen ihrem Herrn.

你 (对他们) 说: “你们召唤你们的证人来作证, 安拉禁止了这 (某某) 东西。” 假如他们做这样的证明, 你不要同他们作证。凡拒绝了我的迹象的人, 不信仰后世的人和[b]树立与他们的养主同等对象的人, [c]你不要顺从他们的私欲。

Di': «Portate avanti i vostri testimoni, coloro che attestano che Allah ha proibito ciò.» Allora se essi lo attestano, tu astieniti dal testimoniare con loro, e non seguire le cattive inclinazioni di quanti considerano i Nostri segni come menzogne e di quanti non credono nell'Aldilà e mettono altri alla pari del loro Signore.

Spanish

Diles: “Presentad vuestros testigos, los que testifican que Al-lah ha prohibido esto”. Si prestan testimonio, no testifiques tú con ellos ni sigas las malvadas inclinaciones de quienes tratan nuestros Signos de mentiras o de quienes no creen en el Más Allá y elevan a otros a la altura de su Señor.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

تو (ان سے) کہہ دے کہ اپنے ان گواہوں کو بلاؤ جو یہ گواہی دیں کہ اللہ نے اس (یعنی فلاں فلاں) چیز کو حرام کیا ہے پھر اگر وہ ایسی گواہی دیں تو ان کے ساتھ (شامل ہو کر) تو گواہی نہ دے اور ان لوگوں کی خواہشوں کی پیروی نہ کر جو ہماری آیتوں کو جھٹلا چکے ہیں اور جو لوگ پیچھے آنے والی (باتوں) پر ایمان نہیں لاتے اور وہ اپنے رب کے شریک (بھی) بناتے ہیں۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

Say, ‘Produce your witnesses who testify that Allah has forbidden this.’ If they bear witness, bear thou not witness with them, [b]nor follow thou the evil desires of those who treat Our Signs as lies and those who believe not in the Hereafter and [c]who set up [d]equals to their Lord.

Important Words:

ھلم (bring forward) is both intransitive and transitive, meaning (1) come; or (2) cause to come, i.e. bring forth or produce (Lane). ھلم (halumma) is, according to the people of the Hijaz, one of the words known as اسماء الفعل and is thus used by them in the fixed form whether the number is singular or plural and whether the gender is masculine or feminine; but others differ from this view (Aqrab).

Commentary:

The Quran now returns to the subject of man-made laws about prohibitions. The verse signifies that disbelievers should declare that they do not agree with the Quran and find its teachings inferior to their own and then God Himself will decide between the two parties. Indirectly the words also hint that everybody should express his opinion freely when he disagrees with others and should refrain from dissimulation.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

ان سے کہو کہ "لاؤ اپنے وہ گواہ جو اس بات کی شہادت دیں کہ اللہ ہی نے اِن چیزوں کو حرام کیا ہے" پھر اگر وہ شہادت دے دیں تو تم ان کے ساتھ شہادت نہ دینا، اور ہرگز اُن لوگوں کی خواہشات کے پیچھے نہ چلنا جنہوں نے ہماری آیات کو جھٹلایا ہے، اور جو آخرت کے منکر ہیں، اور جو دوسروں کو اپنے رب کا ہمسر بناتے ہیں

English - Sahih

Say, [O Muhammad], "Bring forward your witnesses who will testify that Allah has prohibited this." And if they testify, do not testify with them. And do not follow the desires of those who deny Our verses and those who do not believe in the Hereafter, while they equate [others] with their Lord.

ان سے کہہ دو اپنے گواہ لاؤ جو اس بات کی گواہی دیں کہ الله نے ان چیزوں کو حرام کیا ہے پھر اگر وہ ایسی گواہی دیں توتو ان کا اعتبار نہ کر اور جنہوں نے ہماری آیتوں کو جھٹلایا ہے اور جو آخرت پریقین نہیں رکھتے اور وہ اوروں کو اپنے رب کے برابر کرتے ہیں

Say, "Bring forward your witnesses, those who testify that Allah prohibited this." Then if they testify then (do) not testify with them. And (do) not follow (the) desires (of) those who denied Our Signs and those who (do) not believe in the Hereafter, while they with their Lord set up equals.

English - Arberry

Say: 'Produce your witnesses, those who testify God has forbidden this.' Then if they testify, bear not witness with them; and do not thou follow the caprices of those who cried lies to Our signs, and who believe not in the world to come, and ascribe equals to their Lord.

English - Maududi

Say to them: 'Call your witnesses to testify that Allah forbade such-and-such.' Then if they do testify, neither testify with them nor follow the desires of those who have given the lie to Our signs and who do not believe in the Hereafter and set up equals with their Lord.

English - Ahmed Ali

Tell them: "Bring your witnesses to testify that God has forbidden this (and this)." Then even if they testify, you should not testify with them; and do not follow the wishes of those who deny Our signs and believe not in the Hereafter, and make others the equal of their Lord.
