وَالَّذِیۡنَ یُظٰہِرُوۡنَ مِنۡ نِّسَآئِہِمۡ ثُمَّ یَعُوۡدُوۡنَ لِمَا قَالُوۡا فَتَحۡرِیۡرُ رَقَبَۃٍ مِّنۡ قَبۡلِ اَنۡ یَّتَمَآسَّا ۚ ذٰلِکُمۡ تُوۡعَظُوۡنَ بِہٖ ۚ وَاللّٰہُ بِمَا تَعۡمَلُوۡنَ خَبِیۡرٌ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

As to those who call their wives mothers, and then would go back on what they have said, the penalty for it is the freeing of a slave before they touch each other. This is what you are admonished with. And Allah is Well-Aware of what you do.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور وہ لوگ جو اپنی بیویوں کو ماں کہہ دیتے ہیں، پھر جو کہتے ہیں اس سے رجوع کر لیتے ہیں، تو پیشتر اس کے کہ وہ دونوں ایک دوسرے کو چھوئیں ایک گردن کا آزاد کرنا ہے۔ یہ وہ ہے جس کی تمہیں نصیحت کی جاتی ہے اور اللہ جو تم کرتے ہو اُس سے ہمیشہ باخبر رہتا ہے۔

French

Quant à ceux qui mettent à l’écart leurs épouses en les appelant mères, et qui voudraient ensuite revenir sur ce qu’ils ont dit, ils doivent au préalable affranchir un esclave avant qu’ils se touchent. Vous êtes exhortés à agir ainsi. Et Allāh est Très-Conscient de ce que vous faites.

German

Jene nun, die ihre Frauen Mütter nennen und dann zurücknehmen möchten, was sie gesagt – (die Buße dafür) ist die Befreiung eines Sklaven, bevor sie einander berühren. Dies, um euch zu ermahnen. Und Allah ist wohl kundig dessen, was ihr tut.

Quanto a quelli che chiamano madri le loro mogli, e quindi vorrebbero tornare su quello che hanno detto, devono affrancare uno schiavo, prima che si tocchino. Questo è ciò di cui siete ammoniti. E Allah è ben Consapevole di quello che fate.

En cuanto a quienes llaman madres a sus esposas y después se retractan de lo que han dicho, el castigo por ello es la liberación de un esclavo antes de tocarse mutuamente. Con esto es con lo que se os amonesta. Pues Al-lah es Perfectamente Consciente de lo que hacéis.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور وہ لوگ جو اپنی بیویوں کو ماں کہہ دیتے ہیں پھر اس کے بعد (باوجود خداتعالیٰ کے منع کرنے کے) جو کچھ انہوں نے کہا تھا اس کی طرف لوٹ کے آتے ہیں ان کے لئے ضروری ہے کہ قبل اس کے کہ وہ دونوں (یعنی میاں بیوی) ایک دوسرے کو چھوئیں ایک غلام آزاد کریں‘ یہ وہ (بات) ہے جس کی تمہیں نصیحت کی جاتی ہے اور اللہ تمہارے اعمال سے خوب آگاہ ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

Those who put away their wives by calling them mothers, and then would go back[3002] on what they have said, must free a slave before they touch one another. This is what you are admonished with. And Allah is Well-Aware of what you do.

The words, "they would go back on what they have said," may signify that after calling their wives "mothers" they seek to re-establish conjugal relations with them, or they may mean that after having once called their wives "mothers" they repeat what they have said. According to this meaning, it is deliberate repetition of the obnoxious words and not their casual or inadvertent utterance that renders the utterer liable to the punishment prescribed in this and the following verse.

Commentary:

The words "they go back on what they have said," may signify that after calling their wives "mothers" they seek to re-establish conjugal relations with them. Or the words may mean that after having once called their wives "mothers" they repeat what they have said. اردو ترجمہ مودودی

جو لوگ اپنی بیویوں سے ظہار کریں پھر اپنی اُس بات سے رجوع کریں جو انہوں نے کہی تھی، تو قبل اس کے کہ دونوں ایک دوسرے کو ہاتھ لگائیں، ایک غلام آزاد کرنا ہوگا اِس سے تم کو نصیحت کی جاتی ہے، اور جو کچھ تم کرتے ہو اللہ اس سے باخبر ہے

English - Sahih

And those who pronounce thihar from their wives and then [wish to] go back on what they said - then [there must be] the freeing of a slave before they touch one another. That is what you are admonished thereby; and Allah is Acquainted with what you do.

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

اور جو لوگ اپنی بیویوں سے اظہار کرتے ہیں پھر اس کہی ہوئی بات سے پھرنا چاہیں تو ایک غلام ایک دوسرے کو ہاتھ لگانے سے پہلے آزاد کر دیں یہ اس کے لیے اس سے تمہیں نصیحت ہو اور الله جو کچھ تم کرتے ہو اس کی خبر رکھتا ہے

And those who pronounce zihar [from] (to) their wives then go back on what they said, then freeing (of) a slave before [that] they touch each other. That you are admonished to it. And Allah of what you do (is) All-Aware.

اردہ تفصیرِ صغیر نوٹس ^*

English - Arberry

And those who say, regarding their wives, 'Be as my mother's back,' and then retract what they have said, they shall set free a slave, before the two of them touch one another. By that you are admonished; and God is aware of the things you do.

English - Maududi

Those who declare their wives to be their mothers and thereafter go back on what they have said shall free a slave before they may touch each other. That is what you are exhorted to do. Allah is fully aware of all your deeds.

English - Ahmed Ali

Those who call their wives their mothers then revoke what they had said, should free a slave before having physical contact (with them). This is to warn you, as God is aware of what you do.
