اِلَّا تَنۡصُرُوۡہُ فَقَدۡ نَصَرَہُ اللّٰہُ اِذۡ اَخۡرَجَہُ الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوۡا ثَانِیَ اثۡنَیۡنِ اِذۡ ہُمَا فِی الۡغَارِ اِذۡ یَقُوۡلُ لِصٰحِبِہٖ لَا تَحۡزَنۡ اِنَّ اللّٰہَ مَعَنَا ۖ فَاَنۡزَلَ اللّٰہُ سَکِیۡنَتَہٗ عَلَیۡہِ وَاَیَّدَہٗ بِجُنُوۡدٍ لَّمۡ تَرَوۡہَا وَجَعَلَ کَلِمَۃَ الَّذِیۡنَ کَفَرُوا السُّفۡلٰی ۗ وَکَلِمَۃُ اللّٰہِ ہِیَ الۡعُلۡیَا ۗ وَاللّٰہُ عَزِیۡزٌ حَکِیۡمٌ
English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra
If you help him not, then know that Allah helped him even when the disbelievers drove him forth while he was one of the two when they were both in the cave, when he said to his companion, ‘Grieve not, for Allah is with us.’ Then Allah sent down His peace on him, and strengthened him with hosts which you did not see, and humbled the word of those who disbelieved, and it is the word of Allah alone which is supreme. And Allah is Mighty, Wise.

اگر تم اس (رسول) کی مدد نہ بھی کرو تو اللہ (پہلے بھی) اس کی مدد کر چکا ہے جب اسے اُن لوگوں نے جنہوں نے کفر کیا (وطن سے) نکال دیا تھا اس حال میں کہ وہ دو میں سے ایک تھا۔ جب وہ دونوں غار میں تھے۔ اور وہ اپنے ساتھی سے کہہ رہا تھا کہ غم نہ کر یقیناً اللہ ہمارے ساتھ ہے۔ پس اللہ نے اس پر اپنی سکینت نازل کی اور اس کی ایسے لشکروں سے مدد کی جن کو تم نے کبھی نہیں دیکھا۔ اور اس نے ان لوگوں کی بات نیچی کر دکھائی جنہوں نے کفر کیا تھا۔ اور بات اللہ ہی کی غالب ہوتی ہے اور اللہ کامل غلبہ والا (اور) بہت حکمت والا ہے۔
French
Si vous ne lui venez pas en aide, alors sachez qu’Allāh l’a aidé, même lorsque les mécréants l’ont chassé, et qu’il était l’un des deux quand ils étaient tous deux dans la grotte, quand il dit à son compagnon : « Ne t’afflige pas, assurément Allāh est avec nous. » Alors Allāh fit descendre Sa paix sur lui, et envoya à son secours des troupes que vous n’avez pas vues, et Il abaissa la parole des mécréants, et il n’y a que la parole d’Allāh qui soit suprême. Et Allāh est Puissant, Sage.

Wenn ihr ihm nicht helfet, so (wisset, dass) Allah ihm auch damals half, als die Ungläubigen ihn zu entweichen zwangen selbander* – wie sie da beide in der Höhle waren, und er sprach zu seinem Begleiter: "Traure nicht, denn Allah ist mit uns." Da senkte Allah Seinen Frieden auf ihn und stärkte ihn mit Heerscharen, die ihr nicht saht, und erniedrigte das Wort der Ungläubigen, und es ist Allahs Wort allein das höchste. Si no le ayudáis, sabed que Al-lah le ayudó incluso cuando los incrédulos lo desterraron, siendo uno de los dos que estaban en la caverna, cuando dijo a su compañero: “No te aflijas, pues Al-lah está con nosotros”. اگر تم اس رسول کی مدد نہ کرو تو (یاد رکھو کہ) اللہ اس کی اس وقت بھی مدد کر چکا ہے جبکہ اسے کافروں نے دو میں سے ایک کی صورت میں نکال[1] دیا تھا جبکہ وہ دونوں غار میں تھے اور جبکہ وہ اپنے ساتھی (ابوبکر) سے کہہ رہا تھا کہ کسی گذشتہ بھول چوک پر غم نہ کرو۔ اللہ یقیناً ہمارے ساتھ ہے۔ پس اللہ نے اس پر اپنی سکینت نازل کی۔ اور اس کی ایسے لشکروں سے مدد کی جن کو تم نہیں دیکھتے تھے اور ان لوگوں کی بات کو نیچا کر دیا جنہوں نے کفر کیا تھا اور اللہ ہی کی بات اونچی ہو کر رہتی ہے اور اللہ بڑا غالب (اور) حکمت والا ہے۔

If you help him not, then know that Allah helped him even when the disbelievers drove him forth while he was one of the two, when they were both in the Cave, when he said to his Companion, ‘Grieve not, for Allah is with us.’ Then [a]Allah sent down His peace on him.[1185] and succoured him with hosts which you did not see, and humbled the word of those who disbelieved, and it is the word of Allah alone which is supreme. The pronoun "him" in the clause "His peace on him" may refer to Abu Bakr since the Holy Prophet had all along been perfectly calm and quiet and the pronoun "him" in the clause "succoured him," however, refers to the Holy Prophet. This divergence in the use of pronouns known as Intisharud- Dama’ir is of common use in Arabic. See 48:10.

The reference in this verse is to the emigration of the Holy Prophet from Mecca to Medina when, accompanied by Abu Bakr, he took shelter in a cave called Thaur. The verse sheds some light on the very high spiritual status of Abu Bakr who is referred to as "one of the two" with whom was God and whose fear God Himself allayed. It is on record that, while in the Cave, Abu Bakr began to weep, and when asked by the Holy Prophet why he was weeping he replied, "I do not weep for my life, O Prophet of God, because if I die, it is only the question of a single life. But if you die, it will be the death of Islam and of the entire Muslim community" (Zurqani).

The reference in this verse is to the flight of the Holy Prophet from Mecca to Medina when, accompanied by Abu Bakr, he took shelter in a cave called Thaur. See note on 8:31. The Arabic words rendered as "one of the two" literally mean "the second of the two" and refer to the Holy Prophet and Abu Bakr. The Holy Prophet has been referred to as "the second" because in the Quranic idiom the more important member of the group is referred to as being the last part, i.e. the final figure. For instance see 5:74 where God is referred to as being "the Third of the Trinity" according to the Christian doctrine.
The verse sheds important light on the high spiritual status of Abu Bakr, who accompanied the Holy Prophet in his flight from Mecca and was thus one of "the two" referred to in the verse. It is worthy of note that when at a time of danger, the Israelites anxiously addressed Moses, saying, We are surely overtaken, he replied, nay speak not thus for my Lord is with me. The verse also hints that even if none else had accompanied the Holy Prophet in the hazardous expedition to Tabuk, Abu Bakr would certainly have done so, just as he did on the occasion of his flight from Mecca. The verse thus provides a great testimonial to the strength and sincerity of Abu Bakr’s faith.

If you do not aid the Prophet - Allah has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out [of Makkah] as one of two, when they were in the cave and he said to his companion, "Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us." And Allah sent down his tranquillity upon him and supported him with angels you did not see and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowest, while the word of Allah - that is the highest. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.

اور لوگوں میں سے بعض ایسے بھی ہوتے ہیں۔ جو اللہ کے متعلق بغیر علم‘ بغیر ہدایت اور بغیر کسی روشن کتاب کے اس حالت میں بحث کرتے ہیںکہ اپنے پہلو موڑے ہوئے (ہوتے) ہیں (یعنی اظہار تکبر کرتے ہیں) تا کہ اللہ کے راستہ سے لوگوں کو گمراہ کریں۔ ایسے لوگوں کے لئے دنیا میں بھی رسوائی ہوگی اور قیامت کے دن بھی ہم ان کو جلنے والا عذاب پہنچائیں گے۔

Two kinds of punishment are in store for the deniers of truth, viz. defeat and discomfiture in the present life and disgrace and ignominy in the life to come. The punishment in this life constitutes a proof of punishment in the life to come.

ثانی (turning) is derived from ثنی. They say ثناہ i.e. he doubled it or folded it; he bent it; he turned him or turned him away or back. ثناہ من حاجته he turned him or turned him away or back from the object of his want. ثانی عطفه meaning twisting or bending his back and turning his side, is a metaphor for "behaving proudly." See also 11:6 & 15:88.
Commentary:

Twisting his neck [in arrogance] to mislead [people] from the way of Allah. For him in the world is disgrace, and We will make him taste on the Day of Resurrection the punishment of the Burning Fire [while it is said],

They say ثناہ i.e. he doubled it or folded it; he bent it; he turned him or turned him away or back. ثناہ من حاجته he turned him or turned him away or back from the object of his want. ثانی عطفه meaning twisting or bending his back and turning his side, is a metaphor for "behaving proudly." See also 11:6 & 15:88.
Commentary:
Two kinds of punishment are in store for the deniers of truth, viz. defeat and discomfiture in the present life and disgrace and ignominy in the life to come. The punishment in this life constitutes a proof of punishment in the life to come.

Allāh a révélé le meilleur Message sous la forme d’un Livre, dont les versets se supportent mutuellement, et sont répétés sous diverses formes. La récitation de ce Livre fait frissonner ceux qui craignent leur Seigneur ; ensuite leur peau et leur cœur s’adoucissent au souvenir d’Allāh. Telle est la direction d’Allāh ; c’est par cela qu’Il guide qui Il veut. Et celui qu’Allāh juge égaré – il n’aura aucun guide.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر
اللہ وہ ہے جس نے بہتر سے بہتر بات یعنی وہ کتاب اتاری ہے‘ جو متشابہ[1] بھی ہے۔ اور اس کے مضمون نہایت [2]اعلیٰ[3] ہیں۔ جو لوگ اپنے رب سے ڈرتے ہیں ان کے جسموں کے رونگٹے اس کے پڑھنے سے کھڑے ہو جاتے ہیں۔ پھر ان کے چمڑے اور دل نرم ہو کر اللہ کے ذکر کی طرف جھک جاتے ہیں۔ یہ (قرآن) اللہ کی ہدایت ہے (یعنی قرآن جس ہدایت کا مالک ہے وہ اللہ کی ہدایت ہے) جس کے ذریعہ سے وہ جس کو چاہتا ہے ہدایت دیتا ہے اور جس کو اللہ گمراہ قرار دے دے اس کو کوئی ہدایت نہیں دے سکتا۔
