فَاصۡبِرۡ عَلٰی مَا یَقُوۡلُوۡنَ وَسَبِّحۡ بِحَمۡدِ رَبِّکَ قَبۡلَ طُلُوۡعِ الشَّمۡسِ وَقَبۡلَ غُرُوۡبِہَا ۖ وَمِنۡ اٰنَآئِ الَّیۡلِ فَسَبِّحۡ وَاَطۡرَافَ النَّہَارِ لَعَلَّکَ تَرۡضٰی

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Bear patiently then what they say, and glorify thy Lord with His praise before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and glorify Him in the hours of the night and at the sides of the day, that thou mayest find true happiness.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

پس جو وہ کہتے ہیں اس پر صبر کر اور اپنے ربّ کی حمد کے ساتھ تسبیح کر۔ سورج نکلنے سے پہلے اور اس کے غروب سے پہلے نیز رات کی گھڑیوں میں بھی تسبیح کر اور دن کے کناروں میں بھی تاکہ تو راضی ہو جائے۔

French

Endure donc avec patience ce qu’ils disent, et glorifie ton Seigneur avec Ses louanges avant le lever du soleil et avant son coucher ; et glorifie-Le pendant les heures de la nuit et aux extrémités du jour, afin que tu puisses trouver le vrai contentement.

Ertrage denn geduldig, was sie sagen, und lobpreise deinen Herrn vor Aufgang der Sonne und vor ihrem Untergang; und verherrliche (Ihn) in den Stunden der Nacht und an den Enden des Tags, auf dass du wahre Glückseligkeit finden mögest.

پس جو کچھ یہ (لوگ) کہتے ہیں تو اس پر صبر کر (کیونکہ تیرے رب کی سنت یہی ہے کہ رحم سے کام لیا جائے) اور سورج کے چڑھنے اور اس کے ڈوبنے سے پہلے اس کی حمد کے ساتھ اس کی تسبیح بھی کیا کر اور رات کے مختلف حصوں اور (اسی طرح) دن کے سب حصوں میں بھی اس کی تسبیح کیا کر‘ تا کہ (اس کے فضل کو حاصل کرکے) تو خوش ہو جائے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

Bear patiently then what they say, and [b]glorify thy Lord with His praise before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and glorify Him in the hours of the night and all parts[1867] of the day, that thou mayest find true happiness.

The glorification of God at the hours mentioned in the verse may signify the hours of the five daily Prayers; the words, before the rising of the sun, signifying the Morning (Fajr) Prayer; and the words, before its setting, the Late-afternoon (‘Asr) Prayer; and the expression, and glorify Him in the hours of the night, signifying the Evening Prayer (Maghrib) and Night Prayer (‘Isha’), while the words, parts of the day, signifying the Afternoon (Zuhr) Prayer.

Bear patiently then what they say, and [a]glorify thy Lord with His praise before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and glorify Him in the hours of the night and at the sides of the day, that thou mayest find true happiness.[2337]

Important Words:

آناء (hours) is the plural of إنی (inyun) and إنی (inan) and أنی (anyun). All these are derived from أنی (ana) which means, its time came; it was or became or drew near; it attained to its full state. إنی (inyun) means, an hour or a short portion of time, or an indefinite time; a time of the night; any hour of the night. مضی إنو من اللیل means, a time of the night passed (Lane & Aqrab).

اطراف is the plural of طرف and means, sides of the day; parts of the day (Aqrab).

Commentary:

Some commentators of the Quran are of the view that by the glorification of God at the hours mentioned in the verse are meant the hours of the five daily Prayers; the words "before the rising of the sun" signifying the morning Prayer; and the words "before its setting" the late afternoon (‘Asr) Prayer; and the expression "and glorify Him in the hours of the night" signifying the evening (Maghrib) and night Prayer (‘Isha), while the words "at the sides of the day" signifying afternoon (Zuhr) Prayer. But whatever the words of the verse may mean it is quite clear that in order to obtain success in life and satisfaction of the mind it is very essential to remember God and glorify Him. God’s constant remembrance is specifically suited to illumine the soul and to bring about peace of mind.

پس اے محمدؐ، جو باتیں یہ لوگ بناتے ہیں اُن پر صبر کرو، اور اپنے رب کی حمد و ثنا کے ساتھ اُس کی تسبیح کرو سورج نکلنے سے پہلے اور غروب ہونے سے پہلے، اور رات کے اوقات میں بھی تسبیح کرو اور دن کے کناروں پر بھی، شاید کہ تم راضی ہو جاؤ

English - Sahih

So be patient over what they say and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting; and during periods of the night [exalt Him] and at the ends of the day, that you may be satisfied.

پس صبر کر اس پر جو کہتے ہیں اور سورج کے نکلنے اور ڈوبنے سے پہلے اپنے رب کی حمد کے ساتھ تسبیح بیان کر اور رات کی کچھ گھڑیوں میں اور دن کے اول اور آخر میں تسبیح کر تاکہ تجھے خوشی حاصل ہو

So be thou patient under what they say, and proclaim thy Lord's praise before the rising of the sun, and before its setting, and proclaim thy Lord's praise in the watches of the night, and at the ends of the day; haply thou wilt be well-pleasing.

So bear patiently with what they say. Glorify your Lord, praising Him before sunrise and before sunset, and in the watches of the night, and glorify Him and at the ends of the day that you may attain to happiness.
