قُلْ مَن كَانَ فِى ٱلضَّلَٰلَةِ فَلْيَمْدُدْ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ مَدًّا ۚ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا رَأَوْا۟ مَا يُوعَدُونَ إِمَّا ٱلْعَذَابَ وَإِمَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ هُوَ شَرٌّ مَّكَانًا وَأَضْعَفُ جُندًا

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Say, ‘The Gracious God does give those who are in error long respite until, when they will see that with which they are threatened — whether it be punishment or the Hour — they will realize who is worse in respect of position and who is weaker in forces.

تُو کہہ دے جو گمراہی میں ہوتا ہے رحمان اُسے ضرور کچھ مہلت دیتا ہے یہاں تک کہ آخر جب وہ اُسے دیکھ لیں گے جس کا وہ وعدہ دیئے جاتے ہیں، خواہ وہ عذاب ہو یا قیامت کی گھڑی، تو وہ ضرور جان لیں گے کہ کون مرتبے کے لحاظ سے بدترین اور جتھے کے لحاظ سے سب سے زیادہ کمزور تھا۔

Dis : « Le Dieu Gracieux donne un long délai à ceux qui sont dans l’erreur, jusqu’au moment où ils verront ce dont ils sont menacés – que ce soit le châtiment ou l’Heure – ils comprendront qui est le plus mal placé et qui est le plus faible en forces. »

Sprich: "Der Gnadenreiche lässt diejenigen, die sich im Irrtum befinden, lange gewähren, bis sie das sehen, was ihnen angedroht – ob es nun Strafe ist oder die "Stunde" –, und dann erkennen, wer in schlechterer Lage und schwächer an Streitmacht ist.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

تو کہہ دے کہ جو شخص گمراہی میں (پڑا) ہو (خدائے) رحمن اسے ایک عرصہ تک ڈھیل دیتا جاتا ہے۔ یہاں تک کہ جب ایسے لوگوں کے سامنے وہ عذاب آجائے گا جس کا ان سے وعدہ کیا گیا تھا (یعنی) یا دنیوی عذاب یا (قومی) کامل تباہی اس وقت وہ جان لیں گے کہ کون شخص مکان کے لحاظ سے بدتر ہے اور دوستوں کے لحاظ سے کمزور ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

Say, ‘The Gracious God grants those, who are in error, respite for a time [c]until, when they will see that with which they are threatened—whether it be punishment or the final Hour[1795]—they will realize who is worse in respect of position and weaker in forces.’

72:25.

'Punishment' here may signify the intervening punishment which will overtake disbelievers in stages before their final destruction, and "final Hour" may signify their complete and final destruction.

English - Five Volume Translation

Say, ‘The Gracious God does give those who are in error long respite [a]until, when they will see that with which they are threatened—whether it be punishment or the final Hour—they will realize who is worse in respect of position and who is weaker in forces.[2215]

72:25.

Commentary:

The verb فلیمدد while being in the imperative mood has been used in the indicative mood in order to impart more emphasis to the meaning. The verse means to say that God will give more and more respite to the wrongdoing people and will grant them increase in power and wealth and resources, so that when Divine punishment descends upon them, their destruction will look all the more impressive and awe-inspiring. العذاب (the punishment) here may signify the intervening punishment which will overtake Western nations in stages before their final destruction, and الساعة may mean their complete and final destruction. Thus the verse means to say that Divine punishment will descend upon the nations of the West in different forms and stages. At first their power will gradually weaken and decline by wars that will take place at short intervals and then a global war in which most deadly weapons will be used will destroy them fully and completely.

The words العذاب and الساعة having been used simultaneously in the verse show that the punishment which will overtake Western nations, if they did not accept truth and mend their ways, will at first be in the form of العذاب (intervening punishment) for some of them and الساعة (final destruction) for others till ultimately it will take the form of الساعة for all of them.

The verse points to an absolute certainty that the path of sin and iniquity leads to sure destruction. It also shows that when destruction will overtake Western nations, they will realize that the germs of their destruction had lain hidden in their very material power of which they were so proud and that the apparently weak condition of the Eastern nations possessed seeds of their growing strength and power.

اِن سے کہو، جو شخص گمراہی میں مُبتلا ہوتا ہے اُسے رحمان ڈھیل دیا کرتا ہے یہاں تک کہ جب ایسے لوگ وہ چیز دیکھ لیتے ہیں جس کا اُن سے وعدہ کیا گیا ہے خواہ وہ عذاب الٰہی ہو یا قیامت کی گھڑی تب انہیں معلوم ہو جاتا ہے کہ کس کا حال خراب ہے اور کس کا جتھا کمزور!

Say, "Whoever is in error - let the Most Merciful extend for him an extension [in wealth and time] until, when they see that which they were promised - either punishment [in this world] or the Hour [of resurrection] - they will come to know who is worst in position and weaker in soldiers."
