English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
Those who were left behind rejoiced in their sitting at home behind the back of the Messenger of Allah, and were averse to striving with their property and their persons in the cause of Allah. And they said, ‘Go not forth in the heat.’ Say, ‘The fire of Hell is more intense in heat.’ Could they but understand!

پیچھے چھوڑ دیئے جانے والے رسول اللہ کے برخلاف اپنے بیٹھ رہنے پر خوش ہو رہے ہیں اور انہوں نے ناپسند کیا کہ اللہ کی راہ میں اپنے اموال اور اپنی جانوں کے ساتھ جہاد کریں اور وہ کہتے تھے کہ سخت گرمی میں سفر پر نہ نکلو۔ تُو کہہ دے کہ جہنم کی آ گ جلن کے لحاظ سے زیادہ سخت ہے۔ کاش وہ سمجھ سکتے۔
French
Ceux qui s’arrangèrent pour être laissés en arrière se sont réjouis d’être restés derrière en contradiction au Messager d’Allāh, et ils répugnaient à lutter pour la cause d’Allāh avec leurs biens et leurs personnes. Et ils dirent : « Ne partez pas par cette chaleur. » Dis : « Le feu de l’Enfer est encore plus intense en chaleur. » Si seulement ils pouvaient comprendre !
German
Jene, die zurückgelassen worden waren, freuten sich ihres Daheimsitzens hinter dem (Rücken des) Gesandten Allahs und waren nicht geneigt, mit ihrem Gut und ihrem Blut für Allahs Sache zu streiten. Sie sprachen: "Zieht doch nicht aus in der Hitze." Sprich: "Das Feuer der Hölle ist stärker an Hitze." Wollten sie es doch verstehen!

[a]那些留在后方的 (伪信者), 他们高兴在安拉的使者之后安坐在自己的家园里, 厌恶以自己的生命、财产奋斗于主道之上。他们 (互相) 说: “在这样 (炎) 热 (的天气) 里不要集队出征。” 你 (向他们) 说: “火狱的火是比这里更炎热的。” 但愿他们理解!

Quelli che erano stati lasciati indietro si rallegrarono d'essere rimasti, in contraddizione a quanto aveva detto il messaggero di Allah. Ed erano contrari a lottare con i loro averi e la loro persona per la causa di Allah. E dicevano: «Non andate con questo caldo.» Di': «Il calore del fuoco dell'Inferno brucia molto di più.» Ah, se comprendessero!

Los que se las ingeniaron para quedarse atrás se alegraron por haberse quedado rezagados, contradiciendo al Mensajero de Al-lah, y se negaron a esforzarse con sus bienes y sus personas por la causa de Al-lah. Dijeron: “No salgáis durante el calor”. Diles: “El Fuego del Infierno tiene un calor más intenso”. ¡Si pudieran entender!
اردو تفسیرِ صغیر
(جہاد سے) پیچھے چھوڑے ہوئے (منافق) اللہ کے رسول کے (حکم کے) خلاف (چل کر) اپنی جگہ بیٹھ رہنے پر بہت خوش ہیں اور انہوں نے اپنی جانوں اور اپنے مالوں کے ساتھ جہاد کرنے کو برا سمجھا تھا اور (ایک دوسرے سے) کہا تھا کہ ایسی (شدید) گرمی میں جنگ کے لئے (اکٹھے ہو کر) مت نکلو۔ تو (ان سے) کہہ دے کہ جہنم کی آگ (اس گرمی سے) زیادہ سخت ہے۔ کاش کہ وہ سمجھتے۔

Commentary:
This and the following several verses speak of those who did not accompany the Holy Prophet on the expedition to Tabuk. The passive form in the word المخلفون (those left behind) has been used in allusion to the words, Allah was averse to their marching forth, so He kept them back, and it was said,' Sit ye at home with those who sit', occurring in 9:46 above.
These people not only stayed behind themselves but, as is usual with mischievous persons, also tried to dissuade others from joining the expedition.

جن لوگوں کو پیچھے رہ جانے کی اجازت دے دی گئی تھی وہ اللہ کے رسول کا ساتھ نہ دینے اور گھر بیٹھے رہنے پر خوش ہوئے اور انہیں گوارا نہ ہوا کہ اللہ کی راہ میں جان و مال سے جہاد کریں انہوں نے لوگوں سے کہا کہ "اس سخت گرمی میں نہ نکلو" ان سے کہو کہ جہنم کی آگ اس سے زیادہ گرم ہے، کاش انہیں اس کا شعور ہوتا

Those who remained behind rejoiced in their staying [at home] after [the departure of] the Messenger of Allah and disliked to strive with their wealth and their lives in the cause of Allah and said, "Do not go forth in the heat." Say, "The fire of Hell is more intensive in heat" - if they would but understand.

Those who were left behind rejoiced in tarrying behind the Messenger of God, and were averse to struggle with their possessions and their selves in the way of God. They said, 'Go not forth in the heat.' Say: 'Gehenna's fire is hotter, did they but understand.'

Those who were allowed to stay behind rejoiced at remaining behind and not accompanying the Messenger of Allah. They were averse to striving in the Way of Allah with their belongings and their lives and told others: "Do not go forth in this fierce heat." Tell them: "The Hell is far fiercer in heat." Commentary:

اور وہ لوگ جنہوں نے کفر کیا ہے انہیں جہنم کی آگ جلائے گی۔ نہ تو ان پر موت کا فیصلہ صادر ہوگا کہ وہ مر جائیں اور نہ جہنم کے عذاب میں ان کی خاطر کوئی کمی کی جائے گی۔ ہم ہر ناشکرے کے ساتھ ایسا ہی معاملہ کیا کرتے ہیں۔

Commentary:
As contrasted with the Paradise promised to believers and briefly but beautifully portrayed in the preceding verse, a description of the fire of Hell in which disbelievers will burn has been given in the present verse. That fire is the burning of the heart and the absence of peace of mind. There could be no greater Hell in this world than loss of mental peace and poise.

اور جن لوگوں نے کفر کیا ہے اُن کے لیے جہنم کی آگ ہے نہ اُن کا قصہ پاک کر دیا جائے گا کہ مر جائیں اور نہ اُن کے لیے جہنم کے عذاب میں کوئی کمی کی جائے گی اِس طرح ہم بدلہ دیتے ہیں ہر اُس شخص کو جو کفر کرنے والا ہو
