English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
And to Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge. And We saved him from the city which practised abominations. They were indeed a wicked and rebellious people.
اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ
اور لوط کو ہم نے حکمت اور علم عطا کئے اور ہم نے اسے ایسی بستی سے نجات بخشی جو پلید کام کیا کرتی تھی۔ یقیناً وہ ایک بڑی بدی میں مبتلا بدکار لوگ تھے۔

Et à Lot Nous accordâmes la sagesse et le savoir. Et Nous le délivrâmes de la ville qui commettait des abominations. Ils étaient en vérité un peuple impie et rebelle.

Und Lot gaben Wir Weisheit und Wissen. Und Wir retteten ihn aus der Stadt, die Schändlichkeiten beging. Sie waren fürwahr ein ruchloses Volk und Empörer.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر
اور (ہم نے اسے) لوط (بھی بخشا) جسے ہم نے حکم [1]بھی عطا کیا اور علم بھی۔ اور اس کو اس بستی سے نجات دی جو کہ نہایت گندے کام کرتی تھی وہ (یعنی لوط کے شہر کے رہنے والے) ایک بہت بری قوم یعنی نافرمان تھے۔
حکم سے مراد یہ ہے کہ ایسا علم بخشا جس سے وہ لوگوں کے درمیان فیصلہ کر سکتے تھے۔ گو اس کے عام معنی حکومت کے ہیں مگر وہ یہاں چسپاں نہیں ہوتے اس لئے کہ لوط کو ان کی قوم نے نکال دیا تھا اگر وہ حاکم ہوتے تو ان کو نہ نکال سکتے۔

Commentary:
The most important and prominent of the signs that God gives to His prophets in support of their claim is that they are vouchsafed spiritual knowledge and Divine wisdom in a very large measure. This sign was given to all the Prophets—Lot, Joseph, David, Solomon, Moses and last of all it was granted to the greatest of all the Divine Prophets—the Holy Prophet Muhammad, in the form of the Quran which is now the only guide for all mankind till the end of time and which is his greatest and standing miracle.

اور لوطؑ کو ہم نے حکم اور علم بخشا اور اُسے اُس بستی سے بچا کر نکال دیا جو بدکاریاں کرتی تھی درحقیقت وہ بڑی ہی بُری، فاسق قوم تھی

And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient.

حکم سے مراد یہ ہے کہ ایسا علم بخشا جس سے وہ لوگوں کے درمیان فیصلہ کر سکتے تھے۔ گو اس کے عام معنی حکومت کے ہیں مگر وہ یہاں چسپاں نہیں ہوتے اس لئے کہ لوط کو ان کی قوم نے نکال دیا تھا اگر وہ حاکم ہوتے تو ان کو نہ نکال سکتے۔

And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly;

We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient.

Commentary:

یہ اس لئے ہوا کہ ان کے پاس ان کے رسول دلائل لیکر آتے رہے مگر وہ یہی جواب دیتے رہے کہ کیا انسانی شکل میں آنے والے لوگ ہی ہم کو ہدایت دیں گے (اگر ہدایت دینی ہوتی تو فرشتے آسمان سے اترتے) سو انہوں نے کفر کیا اور پیٹھ پھیر لی۔ اور اللہ نے بھی ان کے ایمان سے بے نیازی ظاہر کی اور اللہ ہر ایک سے بے احتیاج (اور) بڑی تعریفوں کا مستحق ہے۔

Commentary:
As man has been endowed with great faculties of head and heart and as he has to render an account of his deeds in the life hereafter, God sent His Messengers to guide him to the goal of his life. But man, in his ingratitude and conceit, defies and opposes Divine Messengers, thereby incurring Divine punishment.

اِس انجام کے مستحق وہ اس لیے ہوئے کہ اُن کے پاس اُن کے رسول کھلی کھلی دلیلیں اور نشانیاں لے کر آتے رہے، مگر اُنہوں نے کہا "کیا انسان ہمیں ہدایت دیں گے؟" اس طرح انہوں نے ماننے سے انکار کر دیا اور منہ پھیر لیا، تب اللہ بھی ان سے بے پروا ہو گیا اور اللہ تو ہے ہی بے نیاز اور اپنی ذات میں آپ محمود

That is because their Messengers came to them with the clear signs, and then they said, 'What, shall mortals be our guides?' Therefore they disbelieved, and turned away; and God was in no need of them. And God is All-sufficient, All-laudable.
