18:46

وَٱضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا كَمَآءٍ أَنزَلْنَٰهُ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَٱخْتَلَطَ بِهِۦ نَبَاتُ ٱلْأَرْضِ فَأَصْبَحَ هَشِيمًا تَذْرُوهُ ٱلرِّيَٰحُ ۗ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مُّقْتَدِرًا

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And set forth to them the similitude of the life of this world: it is like the water which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth is mingled with it, and then it becomes dry grass broken into pieces which the winds scatter. And Allah has power over every thing.

اور ان کے سامنے دنیا کی زندگی کی مثال بیان کر جو ایسے پانی کی طرح ہے جسے ہم نے آسمان سے اتارا پھر اس کے ساتھ زمین کی روئیدگی شامل ہوگئی۔ پھر وہ چورا چورا ہو گئی جسے ہوائیں اُڑائے لئے پھرتی ہیں۔ اور اللہ ہر چیز پر پوری طرح قادر ہے۔

French

Et expose-leur l’exemple de la vie de ce monde ; elle ressemble à l’eau que Nous faisons descendre du ciel et avec laquelle la végétation de la terre se mêle et ensuite elle devient herbe sèche et brisée que les vents dispersent. Et Allāh a le pouvoir absolu de faire tout ce qu’Il veut.

German

Gib ihnen das Gleichnis vom irdischen Leben: Es ist wie das Wasser, das Wir vom Himmel niedersenden, mit dem die Pflanzen der Erde sich sättigen, und dann werden sie dürre Spreu, die der Wind verweht. Allah hat Macht über alle Dinge.

[a]你为他们关于今世的生命也打个比喻。它好像是我从云中下降的 (雨) 水一样。地上的植物藉它繁茂起来, 而后成为干草, 随风飘散。[766]安拉对一切事物都是有全力的。

E proponi loro l'esempio della vita di questo mondo: è come l'acqua che noi mandiamo giù dal cielo, e la vegetazione della terra si frammescola con essa e poi la vegetazione diventa erba secca frantumata che i venti sparpagliano. E Allah ha pieno potere su tutte le cose.

Spanish

Preséntales el ejemplo de la vida de este mundo: es como el agua que enviamos del cielo, la vegetación de la tierra se mezcla con ella y después se convierte en hierba seca rota en trozos que desparraman los vientos. Y Al-lah tiene poder sobre todas las cosas.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور تو ان کے سامنے اس ورلی زندگی کی حالت (بھی) کھول کر بیان کر‘ (کہ وہ) اس پانی کی طرح (ہے) جسے ہم نے بادل سے برسایا‘ پھر اس میں زمین کی روئیدگی مل گئی۔ پھر (آخر) وہ (بھوسے کا) چورا بن گئی۔ جسے ہوائیں اڑاتی (پھرتی) ہیں اور اللہ ہر بات پر قدرت رکھنے والا ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

[d]And set forth for them the similitude of the life of this world. It is like the water which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth is mingled with it, and then it becomes dry grass broken into pieces which the winds scatter.[1696] And Allah has full power over everything.

What an apt and forceful description of the transitoriness of worldly life!

English - Five Volume Translation

[c]And set forth to them the similitude of the life of this world: it is like the water which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth is mingled with it, and then it becomes dry grass broken into pieces which the winds scatter. And Allah has power over everything.[2086]

10:25; 57:21.

Important Words:

ھشیما (dry grass broken into pieces) is derived from ھشم. They say ھشم الشیء i.e. he broke the thing. ھشمه (hashshama-hu) means, he broke it much or crushed it, namely a dry thing or anything hollow. ھشیما means, a plant that is dry and breaks or is broken into pieces (Lane & Aqrab).

Commentary:

The subject of the worldly life has been further elaborated by another parable in this verse. It purports to say that in the beginning worldly life looks very beautiful and attractive but its end is most wretched and miserable. On the other hand, spiritual life appears very hard and unpleasant at first but it ends most auspiciously and pleasantly. In the heyday of their power nations are very gay and happy and it appears that their glory will endure forever but once their decay and decline set in they are scattered by the winds of adversity like dry broken grass and are so completely forgotten as if they had never lived on this earth.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اور اے نبیؐ! اِنہیں حیات دنیا کی حقیقت اِس مثال سے سمجھاؤ کہ آج ہم نے آسمان سے پانی برسا دیا تو زمین کی پَود خُوب گھنی ہو گئی، اور کل وہی نباتات بھُس بن کر رہ گئی جسے ہوائیں اڑائے لیے پھرتی ہیں اللہ ہر چیز پر قدرت رکھتا ہے

English - Sahih

And present to them the example of the life of this world, [its being] like rain which We send down from the sky, and the vegetation of the earth mingles with it and [then] it becomes dry remnants, scattered by the winds. And Allah is ever, over all things, Perfect in Ability.

اور ان سے دنیا کی زندگی کی مثال بیان کرو مثل ایک پانی کے ہے جسے ہم نے آسمان سے برسایا پھر زمین کی روئیدگی پانی کے ساتھ مل گئی پھر وہ ریزہ ریز ہ ہو گئی کہ اسے ہوا ئیں اڑاتی پھرتی ہیں اور الله ہر چیز پر قدرت رکنے والا ہے

English - Talal Itani

And present to them the example (of) the life (of) the world, like water which We send down from the sky, then mingles with it (the) vegetation (of) the earth then becomes dry stalks, it (is) scattered (by) the winds. And Allah over every thing (is) All Able.

And strike for them the similitude of the present life: it is as water that We send down out of heaven, and the plants of the earth mingle with it; and in the morning it is straw the winds scatter; and God is omnipotent over everything.

(O Prophet), propound to them the parable of the present life: it is like the vegetation of the earth which flourished luxuriantly when it mingled with the water that We sent down from the sky, but after that the same vegetation turned into stubble which the winds blew about. Allah alone has the power over all things.

Present to them the example of the life of this world so like the water We send down from the skies that mingles with the earth to nourish its vegetation, which then on the morrow turns to stubble and is blown away by the wind. God has power over everything.
