وَكَمْ قَصَمْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ كَانَتْ ظَالِمَةً وَأَنشَأْنَا بَعْدَهَا قَوْمًا ءَاخَرِينَ

And how many a township that acted wrongfully have We utterly destroyed, and raised up after it another people!

اور کتنی ہی بستیاں ہم نے ہلاک کر دیں جو ظلم کرنے والی تھیں اور اُن کے بعد ہم نے دوسرے لوگوں کو پیدا کردیا۔

Et combien d’agglomérations, qui avaient agi injustement, avons-Nous totalement détruites, et suscité après elles d’autres peuples.

Wie so manche Stadt, voll der Ungerechtigkeit, haben Wir schon niedergebrochen und nach ihr ein anderes Volk erweckt!

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور کتنی ہی بستیاں ہیں جو ظلم کیا کرتی تھیں کہ ہم نے ان کو کاٹ کر رکھ دیا اور ان کے بعد ایک اور قوم کو پیدا کر دیا۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

[b]And how many a township that acted wrongfully have We utterly destroyed, and raised up after it another people.

[a]And how many a township that acted wrongfully have We utterly destroyed, and raised up after it another people![2353]

Important Words:

قصمنا (We utterly destroyed) is derived from قصم. They say قصم الشیء i.e. he broke the thing into pieces; he broke it completely, utterly.قصم الرجل means, he destroyed the man. قصم اللّٰه ظھر الظالم means, God afflicted the transgressor with calamity and broke his back (Aqrab).

قریة meaning a township signifies its inhabitants. See also 12:83.

Commentary:

ظلم meaning the improper use of God-given powers and faculties, the verse implies that all transgressions and sins flow from their misuse.

کتنی ہی ظالم بستیاں ہیں جن کو ہم نے پیس کر رکھ دیا اور اُن کے بعد دُوسری کسی قوم کو اُٹھایا
