وَالَّذِیۡنَ یَقُوۡلُوۡنَ رَبَّنَا اصۡرِفۡ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَہَنَّمَ ۖ اِنَّ عَذَابَہَا کَانَ غَرَامًا

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And who say, ‘Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell; for the punishment thereof is a lasting torment.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور وہ لوگ جو کہتے ہیں اے ہمارے ربّ! ہم سے جہنم کا عذاب ٹال دے یقیناً اس کا عذاب چمٹ جانے والا ہے۔

Et qui disent : « Notre Seigneur, détourne de nous le châtiment de l’Enfer ; car ce châtiment est vraiment un tourment affreux,

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور وہ (رحمن کے بندے) کہتے ہیں‘ اے ہمارے رب! ہم سے جہنم کا عذاب ٹلادے۔ اس کا عذاب ایک بہت بڑی تباہی ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And who say, ‘Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell; for the punishment thereof is a most vehement torment,

English - Five Volume Translation

And who say, ‘Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell; for the punishment thereof is a most vehement torment.[2694]

Important Words:

غراما (most vehement torment) is derived from غرم which means, he paid or discharged a thing after it had become obligatory upon him. غرم الدین means, he discharged the debt. غرام means, a thing from which one is unable to free himself; a thing such as cleaves fast; lasting evil; perdition, persistent and such as cleaves fast; most vehement punishment or torment; hardship or difficulty and an affliction or a calamity or misfortune that befalls a man; eager desire (Lane, Aqrab & Mufradat).

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

جو دعائیں کرتے ہیں کہ "اے ہمارے رب، جہنم کے عذاب سے ہم کو بچا لے، اُس کا عذاب تو جان کا لاگو ہے

And those who say, "Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is ever adhering;
