۞ قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَعِظُكُم بِوَٰحِدَةٍ ۖ أَن تَقُومُوا۟ لِلَّهِ مَثْنَىٰ وَفُرَٰدَىٰ ثُمَّ تَتَفَكَّرُوا۟ ۚ مَا بِصَاحِبِكُم مِّن جِنَّةٍ ۚ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا نَذِيرٌ لَّكُم بَيْنَ يَدَىْ عَذَابٍ شَدِيدٍ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Say, ‘I only exhort you to do one thing: that you stand up before Allah in twos and singly and then reflect. You will then know that there is no insanity in your companion; he is only a Warner to you of an impending severe punishment.’

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

تُو کہہ دے کہ میں محض تمہیں ایک بات کی نصیحت کرتا ہوں کہ تم دو دو اور ایک ایک کر کے اللہ کی خاطر کھڑے ہو جاؤ پھر خوب غور کرو ۔ تمہارے ساتھی کو کوئی جنون نہیں۔ وہ تو محض ایک سخت عذاب سے پہلے تمہیں ڈرانے والا (بن کر آیا) ہے۔

French

Dis : « Je ne vous exhorte qu’à faire une seule chose : que vous vous teniez debout devant Allāh deux par deux ou individuellement, et qu'ensuite vous réfléchissiez. Vous réaliserez alors qu’il n’y a aucune folie dans votre compagnon ; il n’est là que pour vous avertir à propos de l’imminence d’un châtiment rigoureux. »

German

Sprich: "Ich mahne euch nur an eines: dass ihr vor Allah hintretet zu zweit oder einzeln und dann nachdenket. Es ist kein Wahnsinn in eurem Gefährten (dem Propheten); er ist euch nur ein Warner vor einer bevorstehenden strengen Strafe."

Chinese

你说: “我仅劝告你们一件事情 (你们要听从它): 你们要双双地或单独地站在安拉之前, 然后深思熟虑。(这样, 你们将会明白) [a]你们的同伴并没有疯病。他只是对于你们将来严厉刑罚的警告者。”

Di': «Mi limito ad esortarvi a fare una sola cosa: a stare in piedi davanti ad Allah, a due e singolarmente, e a meditare. Vi renderete conto allora che il vostro compagno non è colpito da pazzia. Egli è soltanto un ammonitore per voi, che vi annuncia un castigo severo e imminente.»

Spanish

Diles: “Sólo os exhorto a hacer una cosa: A que permanezcáis de pie ante Al‑lah, de dos en dos e individualmente, y luego reflexionéis. Entonces sabréis que no hay locura alguna en vuestro compañero; él no es más que un Amonestador que os advierte del severo castigo que os espera”.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

تو کہہ دے‘ میں تم کو ایک بات کی نصیحت کرتا ہوں (کم سے کم وہ تو مانو) وہ یہ ہے کہ اللہ کے سامنے دو دو ہو کر اور اکیلے اکیلے کھڑے ہو جاؤ۔ پھر غور کرو (تو لازماً یہی نتیجہ نکلے گا) کہ تمہارا یہ رسول مجنون نہیں وہ صرف تمہیں آئندہ آنے والے سخت عذاب سے ہوشیار کرنے والا (شخص) ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

Say, ‘I only exhort you to do only one thing: that you stand up before Allah in twos and singly and reflect. You will then realize that [a]there is no insanity in your companion;[2403] he is only a Warner to you of an impending severe punishment.’

7:185; 23:71.

The verse recommends an objective and detached examination of the Holy Prophet’s claim. The disbelievers are urged to ponder dispassionately without prejudice and without being influenced by crowd mentality, whether the Holy Prophet suffers from insanity or unsoundness of mind.

English - Five Volume Translation

Say, ‘I only exhort you to do only one thing: that you stand up before Allah in twos and singly and then reflect. You will then realize that[a] there is no insanity in your companion; he is only a Warner to you of an impending severe punishment.’ [3168]

Commentary:

In this and the next few verses, another kind of argument has been suggested to test the truth of the Holy Prophet. The present verse recommends an objective and detached examination of his claim. The disbelievers are urged to ponder, dispassionately, without prejudice, and being uninfluenced by crowd mentality, whether the Holy Prophet suffers from insanity or unsoundness of mind. The Quran is convinced that if a person were to deliberate seriously and in solitude over the claim of the Holy Prophet, he would inevitably come to the conclusion that he is neither an impostor, nor an insane person, because an impostor is never allowed to progress and prosper, and sooner or later—sooner rather than later—he meets with a terrible end, while an insane person can neither give such excellent teaching as does the Quran, nor can bring about such wonderful revolution in the life of a whole people, steeped in ignorance and immorality as had been brought about by the Holy Prophet.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اے نبیؐ، اِن سے کہو کہ "میں تمہیں بس ایک بات کی نصیحت کرتا ہوں خدا کے لیے تم اکیلے اکیلے اور دو دو مل کر اپنا دماغ لڑاؤ اور سوچو، تمہارے صاحب میں آخر ایسی کونسی بات ہے جو جنون کی ہو؟ وہ تو ایک سخت عذاب کی آمد سے پہلے تم کو متنبہ کرنے والا ہے"

English - Sahih

Say, "I only advise you of one [thing] - that you stand for Allah, [seeking truth] in pairs and individually, and then give thought." There is not in your companion any madness. He is only a warner to you before a severe punishment.

کہہ دو میں تمہیں ایک بات نصیحت کرتا ہوں کہ تم الله کے لیے دو دو ایک ایک کھڑے ہو کر غور کرو کہ تمہارے اس ساتھی کو جنون تو نہیں ہے وہ تمہیں ایک سخت عذاب آنے سے پہلے ڈرانے والا ہے

Say, "Only I advise you for one (thing), that you stand for Allah (in) pairs and (as) individuals, then reflect." Not (is in) your companion any madness. Not he (is) except a warner for you before a punishment severe."

Say: 'I give you but one admonition, that you stand unto God, two by two and one by one, and then reflect: no madness is in your comrade. He is naught but a warner unto you, before a terrible chastisement.'

English - Maududi

Say to them, (O Prophet): “I give you but one counsel: stand up (for heaven's sake), singly and in pairs, and then think: what is it in your companion (to wit, Muhammad) that could be deemed as madness?” He is nothing but a warner, warning you before the coming of a grevious chastisement.

Say: "I urge upon you only one thing: Stand up for God two by two or one by one, and think and reflect!" There is no madness about your companion. He is a warner against the dreadful affliction (that awaits).

Say (unto them, O Muhammad): I exhort you unto one thing only: that ye awake, for Allah's sake, by twos and singly, and then reflect: There is no madness in your comrade. He is naught else than a warner unto you in face of a terrific doom.
