40:13
ذٰلِکُمۡ بِاَنَّہٗۤ اِذَا دُعِیَ اللّٰہُ وَحۡدَہٗ کَفَرۡتُمۡ ۖ وَاِنۡ یُّشۡرَکۡ بِہٖ تُؤۡمِنُوۡا ۚ فَالۡحُکۡمُ لِلّٰہِ الۡعَلِیِّ الۡکَبِیۡرِ
English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
It will be said to them, ‘This is because, when Allah was proclaimed as One, you disbelieved, but when partners were associated with Him, you believed. The decision now belongs only to Allah, the High, the Incomparably Great.’
اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ
تمہارا یہ حال اس لئے ہے کہ جب بھی اکیلے اللہ کو پکارا جاتا تھا تم اس کا انکار کر دیتے تھے اور اگر اس کا شریک ٹھہرایا جاتا تھا تو تم مان لیتے تھے۔ پس فیصلہ کا اختیار اللہ ہی کو ہے جو بہت بلند (اور) بہت بڑا ہے۔
French
« Ceci est parce que, lorsque Allāh Seul fut proclamé sans aucun associé, vous aviez refusé de croire, mais lorsqu’on Lui attribue des associés, vous aviez cru. Mais la décision finale repose sur Allāh, le Très-Haut, l’Incomparablement-Grand. »

Dies ist so, weil ihr ungläubig bliebt, als Allah allein angerufen wurde, doch als Ihm Götter zur Seite gesetzt wurden, da glaubtet ihr. Die Entscheidung ist allein bei Allah, dem Hohen, dem Großen.

(有的将对他们说:) “这是因为: [c]当有人呼求独一无二的安拉时, 你们拒绝了, 但当有人拟定与他同等的崇拜对象时, 你们却信仰了。(现在,) 判决只归于崇高、至大的安拉。”

Sarà detto loro: «Questo accade perché, quando si invocava Allah soltanto, voi respingeste l'appello, mentre quando ad Allah venivano associati dei compagni, voi credeste. Ma l'ultima parola spetta ad Allah, l'Alto, il Grande.»

Esto es porque, cuando Al-lah fue proclamado Uno, rechazasteis la lamada, pero cuando se Le asociaron partícipes, creísteis. Pero la última palabra corresponde a Al-lah, el Sublime, el Grande”.
اردو تفسیرِ صغیر
تمہارا یہ حال اس لئے ہے کہ جب صرف اللہ کو پکارا جاتا تھا تو تم انکار کر دیتے تھے اور جب اس کا کوئی شریک مقرر کیا جاتا تھا تو تم ایمان لے آتے تھے پس (آج ثابت ہو گیا کہ) سب حکومت عالی شان وسیع مملکت والے اللہ ہی کی ہے۔
English - Short Commentary Translation
It will be said to them, ‘This is because, [b]when Allah alone was called upon, you disbelieved, but when partners were associated with Him, you believed. The decision now rests only with Allah, the High, the Incomparably Great.’

It will be said to them, ‘This is because, [b]when Allah alone was called upon, you disbelieved, but when partners were associated with Him, you believed. The decision now belongs only to Allah, the High, the Incomparably Great.’[3504]

Commentary:
The basic doctrine of Islam, in fact of all religions, is the Unity of God. It is the pivot round which all other religious principles and teachings revolve. The Quran has laid the greatest stress on this doctrine. Second in importance to this doctrine is belief in life after death.
اردو ترجمہ مودودی
(جواب ملے گا) "یہ حالت جس میں تم مبتلا ہو، اِس وجہ سے ہے کہ جب اکیلے اللہ کی طرف بلایا جاتا تھا تو تم ماننے سے انکار کر دیتے تھے اور جب اُس کے ساتھ دوسروں کو ملایا جاتا تو تم مان لیتے تھے اب فیصلہ اللہ بزرگ و برتر کے ہاتھ ہے"
English - Sahih
[They will be told], "That is because, when Allah was called upon alone, you disbelieved; but if others were associated with Him, you believed. So the judgement is with Allah, the Most High, the Grand."

یہ عذاب اس لیے ہے کہ جب تم اکیلے الله کی طرف بلایا جاتا تھا تو انکار کرتے تھے اورجب اس کے ساتھ شریک کیا جاتا تھا تو مان لیتے تھے سو یہ فیصلہ الله کا ہے جو عالیشان بڑے رتبے والا ہے

"That (is) because, when Allah was invoked Alone you disbelieved; but if (others) were associated with Him, you believed. So the judgment (is) with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great."

English - Arberry
That is because, when God was called to alone, you disbelieved; but if others are associated with Him, then you believe. Judgment belongs to God, the All-high, the All-great.

(They will be told): “(The cause of your present state is that) when Allah alone was invoked, you disbelieved; and when others instead of Him were invoked, you believed. Today all judgement lies with Allah, the Most High, the All-Great.”

This has come upon you because when God alone was invoked you disbelieved; but when partners were associated with Him, you believed. But judgement belongs to God, the all-high and supreme.
