40:22

۞ اَوَلَمۡ یَسِیۡرُوۡا فِی الۡاَرۡضِ فَیَنۡظُرُوۡا کَیۡفَ کَانَ عٰقِبَۃُ الَّذِیۡنَ کَانُوۡا مِنۡ قَبۡلِہِمۡ ۚ کَانُوۡا ہُمۡ اَشَدَّ مِنۡہُمۡ قُوَّۃً وَّاٰثَارًا فِی الۡاَرۡضِ فَاَخَذَہُمُ اللّٰہُ بِذُنُوۡبِہِمۡ وَمَا کَانَ لَہُمۡ مِّنَ اللّٰہِ مِنۡ وَّاقٍ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Have they not travelled in the earth and seen what was the end of those before them? They were mightier than these in power and in the marks they left in the earth. But Allah seized them for their sins, and they had no protector against Allah.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

کیا انہوں نے زمین میں سیر نہیں کی کہ وہ دیکھ لیتے کہ ان لوگوں کا انجام کیسا ہوا جو اُن سے پہلے تھے؟ وہ ان سے قوّت میں اور زمین میں نشانات چھوڑنے کے لحاظ سے زیادہ شدید تھے۔ پس اللہ نے ان کو بھی ان کے گناہوں کے سبب پکڑ لیا اور انہیں اللہ سے بچانے والا کوئی نہ تھا۔

French

N’ont-ils pas parcouru la terre et vu quelle a été la fin de ceux qui les ont devancés ? Ils étaient plus puissants que ceux-ci et plus avancés quant aux vestiges qu’ils ont laissés sur la terre. Néanmoins, Allāh les a saisis à cause de leurs péchés, et ils n’ont eu aucun protecteur contre Allāh.

German

Sind sie nicht auf der Erde umhergereist, um zu sehen, wie das Ende derer war, die vor ihnen waren? Diese waren stärker als sie an Macht und (bleibender) in den Spuren (die sie) auf Erden (hinterließen). Und doch erfasste sie Allah um ihrer Sünden willen, und sie hatten keinen, der sie wider Allah hätte schützen können.

Chinese

[a]难道他们未曾在大地上旅行以观察他们前人的结局怎样? 前人有比他们更大的力量, 前人在大地上 (留下)更坚固的标志。但安拉由于他们的罪恶而捉拿了他们。他们没有对抗安拉的保护者。

Non sono forse andati in giro per la terra e non hanno forse visto quale fu la fine di quelli che erano prima di loro? Erano ben più potenti di loro e più forti nelle tracce che hanno lasciato sulla terra. Ma Allah li colpì per i loro peccati, ed essi non avevano nessuno che li proteggesse contro Allah.

Spanish

¿Acaso no han viajado por la tierra y han visto cuál fue el fin de quienes les precedieron? Eran más poderosos que éstos y mas potentes en las huellas que dejaron en la tierra. Pero Al-lah les atrapó por sus pecados, y no tuvieron protector alguno contra Al-lah.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

کیا یہ لوگ زمین میں نہیں پھرے تا دیکھتے کہ ان سے پہلے لوگوں کا انجام کیا ہوا تھا؟ وہ لوگ ان سے طاقت اور پیچھے چھوڑے[3] ہوئے نشانوں کے لحاظ سے بڑے تھے۔ سو اللہ نے ان کو ان کے گناہوں کی وجہ سے تباہ کر دیا اور کوئی بھی اللہ کی گرفت سے ان کو بچانے والا پیدا نہ ہوا۔

یعنی ان قلعوں اور محلّوں کے کھنڈرات جو انہوں نے چھوڑے ہیں وہ بتاتے ہیں کہ ان لوگوں کو وہ فنون حاصل نہیں جو پہلوں کو تھے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

[a]Have they not travelled in the earth that they could see what was the end of those before them? They were mightier than these in power and they left firmer marks in the earth. But Allah seized them for their sins, and they had no one to protect them from Allah.

[a]Have they not travelled in the earth and seen what was the end of those before them? They were mightier than these in power and in marks they left in the earth. But Allah seized them for their sins, and they had no protector against Allah.[3510]

Important Words:

واق (protector) is derived from وقی They say وقی فلاناً i.e. he preserved or guarded such a one from trouble. وقاہ الله عن السوء means, may God protect him from evil. وقی الامر means, he set the affair right. واق means, one who protects, a protector (Aqrab & Lane).

Commentary:

The verse warns disbelievers that rejection of truth has never borne good fruit and that the opponents of God’s Prophets have always met with a sad end. This is one supreme lesson of all history.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

کیا یہ لوگ کبھی زمین میں چلے پھرے نہیں ہیں کہ انہیں اُن لوگوں کا انجام نظر آتا جو اِن سے پہلے گزر چکے ہیں؟ وہ اِن زیادہ طاقت ور تھے اور ان سے زیادہ زبردست آثار زمین میں چھوڑ گئے ہیں مگر اللہ نے ان کے گناہوں پر انہیں پکڑ لیا اور اُن کو اللہ سے بچانے والا کوئی نہ تھا

English - Sahih

Have they not traveled through the land and observed how was the end of those who were before them? They were greater than them in strength and in impression on the land, but Allah seized them for their sins. And they had not from Allah any protector.

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

کیا انہوں نے زمین میں سیر نہیں کی کہ وہ دیکھتے ان لوگو ں کا انجام کیسا تھا جو ان سے پہلے ہو گزرے ہیں وہ قوت میں ان سے بڑھ کر تھے اور زمین میں آثار کے اعتبار سے بھی پھر الله نے انہیں ان کے گناہوں کے سبب سے پکڑ لیا اوران کے لیے الله سے کوئی بچانے والا نہ تھا

English - Talal Itani

Do not they travel in the earth and see how was (the) end (of) those who were before them? They were [they] superior to them (in) strength and (in) impressions in the land, but Allah seized them for their sins, and not was for them against Allah any protector.

What, have they not journeyed in the land and beheld how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than themselves in might and left firmer traces in the earth; yet God seized them in their sins, and they had none to defend them from God.

English - Maududi

Have they not journeyed in the land that they might observe the end of those who came before them? They were even greater in strength than they and left behind more splendid traces in the land. Then Allah seized them because of their sins and they had none who could protect them from Allah.

Have they not travelled on the earth that they could see what happened to those before them? They were greater in strength than they, and have left behind them traces on the earth. Yet they were seized by God for their sins, and had none to protect them against God.

They were mightier than these in the power that they wielded and more skilled as witnessed by the remains that they have left in the earth; but Allah seized them with ruin because of their sins, and there was none who could shield them against Allah’s wrath.
