40:78

فَٱصْبِرْ إِنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّ ۚ فَإِمَّا نُرِيَنَّكَ بَعْضَ ٱلَّذِى نَعِدُهُمْ أَوْ نَتَوَفَّيَنَّكَ فَإِلَيْنَا يُرْجَعُونَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Then have patience. Surely, the promise of Allah is true. And whether We show thee part of what We have promised them, or whether We cause thee to die before the fulfilment of Our promise, to Us in any case will they be brought back.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

پس تو صبر کر۔ یقیناً اللہ کا وعدہ سچا ہے۔ ہم چاہیں تو تجھے اس اِنذار میں سے کچھ دکھا دیں جس سے ہم انہیں ڈرایا کرتے تھے یا تجھے وفات دے دیں تو بہرحال وہ ہماری طرف ہی لوٹائے جائیں گے۔

French

Alors, sois patient, car assurément la promesse d’Allāh est vraie. Et, que Nous te montrions une partie du châtiment dont Nous les avons menacés, ou que Nous te fassions mourir avant, c’est auprès de Nous, en tout cas, qu’ils seront ramenés.

German

Drum habe Geduld. Die Verheißung Allahs ist wahr. Und ob Wir dir (die Erfüllung) von einigen der Dinge zeigen, die Wir ihnen angedroht haben, oder Wir dich (vorher) sterben lassen, zu Uns werden sie (jedenfalls) zurückgebracht werden.

Chinese

你要坚忍, 安拉的许约一定要实现。[d]无论我给你看我所许下对他们的诺言的一部分, 或者我 (在我的诺言实现之前) 使你死去, 他们总要被带回我这里来。[1172]

这节经文体现两个宗教原则: (1) 真理最后必将胜利, 可是信仰安拉的人们在胜利来到之前必得经过许多严酷的磨练和蒙受苦难, 而且他们的信仰必须受到考验并且证明是坚贞不渝的。(2) 含有对不信的人进行惩罚警告的预言是有条件的, 可以延迟、撤回或甚至取消。بَعْض (Ba‘d) 这个单词意示, 不是所有恐吓性的预言都是刻板地要实现的。它们随着不信者态度的改变而改变。

Sii dunque paziente. Senza dubbio, la promessa di Allah è verace. E sia che Noi ti mostriamo in questa vita parte di ciò che abbiamo promesso loro, sia che ti facciamo morire prima del compimento della Nostra promessa, in ogni caso essi saranno ricondotti a Noi.

Ten pues paciencia. Ciertamente la promesa de Al-lah es verdadera. Y tanto si te mostramos parte de lo que les hemos prometido como si te hacemos morir antes del cumplimiento de Nuestra promesa, a Nosotros serán devueltos en cualquier caso.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

پس صبر کر اللہ کا وعدہ ضرور پورا ہو کر رہے گا اور اگر ہم تجھ کو ان باتوں میں سے جن کا ان سے وعدہ کیا جاتا ہے۔ بعض (تیری وفات تک) دکھا دیں (تو بعض پیشگوئیاں تیری وفات کے بعد پوری ہونگی اور اس میں کوئی حرج نہیں) کیونکہ وہ ہماری طرف لوٹائے جائیں گے (اور وہاں ان کا انجام ان پر کھل جائے گا) ۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

So be thou patient. Surely, the promise of Allah is bound to be fulfilled. [c]And whether We show thee in this life part of what We have promised them or whether We cause thee to die before the fulfilment of Our promise, to Us will they be brought back.[2617]

The verse embodies two religious principles: (1) Truth must prevail in the long run, but before success comes to men of God they have to go through severe trials and tribulations and their faith has to be tested and proved up to the mark. (2) Prophecies containing warnings of punishment to disbelievers are conditional and subject to postponement, revocation or even cancellation. The word Ba‘d signifies that not all prophecies containing threats are literally fulfilled. They change with the change in the attitude of disbelievers.

Then be thou patient. Surely, the promise of Allah is bound to be fulfilled. [b]And whether We show thee part of what We have promised them or whether We cause thee to die before the fulfilment of Our promise, to Us in any case will they be brought back.[3548]

Commentary:

The verse refers to two vital principles: (1) Truth must prevail in the long run but before success comes to men of God, they have to go through severe trials and tribulations and their faith has to be tested and proved up to the mark. (2) Prophecies containing warnings of punishment to disbelievers are conditional and subject to postponement, revocation or cancellation. The word بعض (part) signifies that not all prophecies containing threats are literally fulfilled. They change with a change in the attitude of disbelievers. If disbelievers persist in denying and opposing truth they are punished, but if they accept truth, or if they give up opposition and reform themselves, such prophecies are revoked and cancelled.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

پس اے نبیؐ، صبر کرو، اللہ کا وعدہ برحق ہے اب خواہ ہم تمہارے سامنے ہی اِن کو اُن برے نتائج کا کوئی حصہ دکھا دیں جن سے ہم اِنہیں ڈرا رہے ہیں، یا (اُس سے پہلے) تمہیں دنیا سے اٹھا لیں، پلٹ کر آنا تو اِنہیں ہماری ہی طرف ہے

English - Sahih

So be patient, [O Muhammad]; indeed, the promise of Allah is truth. And whether We show you some of what We have promised them or We take you in death, it is to Us they will be returned.

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

پھر صبر کر بے شک الله کا وعدہ سچا ہے پھر جس (عذاب) کا ہم ان سے وعدہ کر رہے ہیں کچھ تھوڑا سا اگر ہم آپ کو دکھا دیں یا ہم آپ کو وفات دے د یں تو ہماری طرف ہی سب لوٹائے جائیں گے

English - Talal Itani

So be patient; indeed, (the) Promise (of) Allah (is) true. And whether We show you some (of) what We have promised them or We cause you to die, then to Us they will be returned.

English - Arberry

So be thou patient; surely God's promise is true. Whether We show thee a part of that We promise them, or We call thee unto Us, to Us they shall be returned.

English - Maududi

So be patient, (O Prophet). Surely Allah's promise is true. Whether We show them a part of the woeful consequences against which We warn them (while you are still in their midst) or We recall you (from this world) before that, eventually it is to Us that they shall be brought back.

English - Ahmed Ali

So you persevere with patience (in your mission). The promise of God is true. Whether We show you some of the punishment We have promised them, or gather you up in death, they have to come back to Us.

So persevere in patience; for the Promise of Allah is true: and whether We show thee (in this life) some part of what We promise them,- or We take thy soul (to Our Mercy) (before that),-(in any case) it is to Us that they shall (all) return.
