42:53

وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ رُوحًا مِّنْ أَمْرِنَا ۚ مَا كُنتَ تَدْرِى مَا ٱلْكِتَٰبُ وَلَا ٱلْإِيمَٰنُ وَلَٰكِن جَعَلْنَٰهُ نُورًا نَّهْدِى بِهِۦ مَن نَّشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ۚ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَهْدِىٓ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And thus have We revealed to thee the Word by Our command. Thou didst not know what the Book was, nor what the faith. But We have made it (the revelation) a light, whereby We guide such of Our servants as We please. And truly, thou guidest mankind to the right path,

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور اسی طرح ہم نے تیری طرف اپنے حکم سے ایک زندگی بخش کلام وحی کیا۔ تو جانتا نہ تھا کہ کتاب کیا ہے اور ایمان کیا ہے لیکن ہم ہی نے اسے نوربنایا جس کے ذریعہ ہم اپنے بندوں میں سے جسے چاہتے ہیں ہدایت دیتے ہیں اوریقیناً تُو سیدھے راستہ کی طرف چلاتا ہے۔

French

Et c’est ainsi que Nous t’avons révélé, par Notre commandement, une révélation insufflant la vie. Tu ne savais pas ce qu’était le Livre, ni ce qu’était la foi. Mais Nous avons fait de la révélation une lumière, par laquelle Nous guidons ceux de Nos serviteurs que Nous voulons. Et en vérité tu guides l’humanité vers un droit chemin,

German

Also haben Wir dir ein Wort offenbart nach Unserem Gebot. Du wusstest nicht was das Buch war noch was der Glaube. Doch Wir haben sie (die Offenbarung) zu einem Lichte gemacht, mit dem Wir jenen von Unseren Dienern den Weg weisen, denen Wir wollen. Wahrlich, du leitest auf den geraden Weg,

我就这样依照我的旨意降下了我的启示。[1216]你原来不知道什么是经典, 什么是信仰。但我使它 (启示) 作为光辉, 藉着这个光辉我领导我所意欲的仆人。你的确领导 (人类) 走上正道。

在这里 «古兰经» 被称为 رُوْح (Ruh, 生命的呼吸) (Lane), 因为一个在道德上和精神上死亡的民族由此得到新生。

E così Noi ti abbiamo rivelato la parola, con il Nostro comando. Tu non sapevi del libro, né della fede. Ma Noi abbiamo fatto (della rivelazione) una luce, con la quale guidiamo quelli dei Nostri servi che a Noi piace. E, veramente, tu guidi l'umanità per il retto sentiero,

Así te hemos revelado una gran revelación por Nuestro mandamiento. No sabías lo que era el Libro ni qué era la fe. Pero la hicimos (a la revelación) ser una luz con la que guiamos a quien Nos place de Nuestros siervos. En verdad tú guías a los hombres al camino recto,

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور اسی طرح ہم نے تیری طرف اپنے حکم سے کلام نازل کیا ہے تو نہیں جانتا تھا کہ کتاب کیا چیز ہے اور نہ یہ جانتا تھا کہ ایمان کیا چیز ہے لیکن ہم نے اس (تیری وحی) کو نور بنا دیا ہے اس کے ذریعہ سے اپنے بندوں میں سے جس کو چاہتے ہیں ہم ہدایت دے دیتے ہیں اور تو یقیناً لوگوں کو سیدھے راستہ کی طرف لا رہا ہے ۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And thus have We revealed to thee the Word[2666] by Our command. Thou didst not know what the Book was, nor what the faith. But We have made the revelation a light, whereby We guide such of Our servants as We please. And, truly, thou guidest mankind to the right path,[2667]

The Qur’an has been called here Ruh, (breath of life, Lane), because through it a morally and spiritually dead people received a new life.

Islam is the Life and the Light and the Way that leads to God and to the realization by man of the great and sublime object of his creation.

English - Five Volume Translation

Important Words:

روحاً (Word) means, soul or spirit; breath of life; Divine revelation or inspiration; the Quran; angel; mercy of God; Word of God. See also 4:172 and 16:3.

Commentary:

The Quran has been called here روح because through it a morally and spiritually dead people received a new life. It gave light and life to the Arabs who in turn spread that light to the farthest ends of the earth.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

اور اِسی طرح (اے محمدؐ) ہم نے اپنے حکم سے ایک روح تمہاری طرف وحی کی ہے تمہیں کچھ پتہ نہ تھا کہ کتاب کیا ہوتی ہے اور ایمان کیا ہوتا ہے، مگر اُس روح کو ہم نے ایک روشنی بنا دیا جس سے ہم راہ دکھاتے ہیں اپنے بندوں میں سے جسے چاہتے ہیں یقیناً تم سیدھے راستے کی طرف رہنمائی کر رہے ہو

English - Sahih

And thus We have revealed to you an inspiration of Our command. You did not know what is the Book or [what is] faith, but We have made it a light by which We guide whom We will of Our servants. And indeed, [O Muhammad], you guide to a straight path -

اور اسی طرح ہم نے آپ کی طرف اپنا حکم سے قرآن نازل کیا آپ نہیں جانتے تھے کہ کتاب کیا ہے او رایمان کیا ہے او رلیکن ہم نے قرآن کو ایسا نور بنایا ہے کہ ہم اس کے ذریعہ سے ہم اپنے بندوں سے جسے چاہتے ہیں ہدایت کرتے ہیں اور بے شک آپ سیدھا راستہ بتاتے ہیں

And thus We have revealed to you an inspiration by Our Command. Not (did) you know what the Book (is) and not the faith. But We have made it a light, We guide with it whom We will of Our slaves. And indeed, you surely guide to (the) Path Straight,

Even so We have revealed to thee a Spirit of Our bidding. Thou knewest not what the Book was, nor belief; but We made it a light, whereby We guide whom We will of Our servants. And thou, surely thou shalt guide unto a straight path --

Even so We revealed to you, (O Prophet), a spirit by Our command. (Ere to that) you knew neither what the Book nor what the faith was. But We made that spirit a light whereby We guide those of Our servants whom We please to the Right Way. Surely you are directing people to the Right Way,

So have We revealed to you the Qur'an by Our command. You did not know what the Scripture was before, nor (the laws of) faith. And We made it a light by which We show the way to those of Our creatures as We please; and you certainly guide them to the right path,
