فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

Thy Lord then let fall on them the whip of punishment.

پس تیرے ربّ نے عذاب کا کوڑا ان پر برسایا۔

سَوْط (Saut) 的意思是: 鞭子; 惩罚的工具; 强烈的感情 (Lane)。

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

جس پر تیرے رب نے ان پر عذاب کا کوڑا برسایا۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

Thy Lord, then, let loose on them the scourge[3337] of punishment.

Saut means a whip; scourge; vehemence (Lane).

English - Five Volume Translation

Thy Lord then let fall on them the scourge of punishment.[4715]

Important Words:

سوط (whip) is derived from ساط. They say ساط i.e. he mixed it, one part with another, and stirred it about and beat it; he whipped him. فلان یسوط الحرب means, such a one manages or conducts the war in person. سوط means, a whip; scourge; a portion or share; vehemence or severity; a mixture; a place where water collects and stagnates (Lane & Aqrab).

So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.
