9:99

وَمِنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ مَن يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ وَيَتَّخِذُ مَا يُنفِقُ قُرُبَٰتٍ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَصَلَوَٰتِ ٱلرَّسُولِ ۚ أَلَآ إِنَّهَا قُرْبَةٌ لَّهُمْ ۚ سَيُدْخِلُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِى رَحْمَتِهِۦٓ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And among the Arabs of the desert are those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and regard that which they spend as means of drawing near to Allah and of receiving the blessings of the Prophet. Aye! it is for them certainly a means of drawing near to God. Allah will soon admit them to His mercy. Surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful.

اور (ان) بادیہ نشینوں میں سے ایسے بھی ہیں جو اللہ اور یومِ آخر پر ایمان لاتے ہیں اور جو کچھ (اللہ کی راہ میں) خرچ کرتے ہیں اسے اللہ کی قربتوں کا ذریعہ اور رسول کی دعائیں لینے کا ایک سبب سمجھتے ہیں۔ سنو کہ یقیناً یہ ان کے لئے حصولِ قرب کا ذریعہ ہی ہے۔ اللہ ضرور انہیں اپنی رحمت میں داخل کرے گا۔ یقیناً اللہ بہت بخشنے والا (اور) بار بار رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

French

Et il en est parmi les Arabes du désert qui croient en Allāh et au Jour Dernier, et qui considèrent ce qu’ils dépensent comme un moyen de s’approcher d’Allāh et d’avoir en leur faveur les prières du Prophète. C’est vrai ! C’est certainement pour eux un moyen de s’approcher d’Allāh. Allāh ne tardera pas à les admettre dans Sa miséricorde. Assurément, Allāh est Très-Pardonnant, Miséricordieux.

Doch unter den Wüstenarabern sind auch solche, die an Allah und an den Jüngsten Tag glauben und die das, was sie spenden, als ein Mittel betrachten, sich Allah zu nähern und die Segnungen des Propheten (zu empfangen). Wahrlich, für sie ist es ein Mittel der Annäherung. Allah wird sie bald in Seine Barmherzigkeit einführen. Wahrlich, Allah ist allverzeihend, barmherzig.

有些住在沙漠的人, 他们信仰安拉、末日, 凡是他们 (在安拉之道) 消费的, 他们都认为是接近安拉和使者祝福的媒介。(听着!) 这行为必将是他们接近 (安拉) 的媒介, 安拉必把他们放在自己的仁慈之中。因为安拉确是最宽恕的, 永久仁慈的。

Ma fra i Beduini del deserto vi sono quelli che credono in Allah e nell'Ultimo giorno, e considerano le proprie elargizioni come un mezzo per avvicinarsi ad Allah e ricevere le benedizioni del profeta. Proprio così! Per essi sono certo un mezzo per avvicinarsi a Dio. Allah li ammetterà presto alla Sua misericordia. Senza dubbio, Allah è Colui che sommamente perdona, il Misericordioso.

Spanish

Y entre los moradores del Desierto están quienes creen en Al-lah y en el Último Día y consideran que lo que gastan es un medio para acercarse a Al-lah y recibir las bendiciones del Profeta. Sin duda que es para ellos un medio para acercarse a Dios. Al-lah muy pronto los recibirá en Su misericordia. En verdad, Al-lah es el Sumo Indulgente, Misericordioso.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور دیہاتیوں اور (جنگل میں رہنے والے عربوں) میں سے کچھ لوگ ایسے بھی ہیں جو اللہ پر اور یوم آخرت پر (سچا) ایمان لاتے ہیں اور (خدا کی راہ میں) جو کچھ خرچ کرتے ہیں‘ اسے (خداتعالیٰ کی) قربت اور رسول کی دعاؤں کا ذریعہ سمجھتے ہیں۔ سنو! یہ فعل ضرور ان کے لئے (خدا کی) قربت کا ذریعہ ہوگا۔ اللہ ضرور ان کو اپنی رحمت میں داخل کرے گا کیونکہ اللہ بہت بخشنے والا (اور) باربار رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And among the Arabs of the desert are those who believe in Allah and the Last Day,[1211] and regard that which they spend as means of bringing them near to Allah and of receiving the prayers of the Prophet. Aye! it is for them certainly a means of bringing them near to Allah. Allah will soon admit them to His mercy. Surely, Allah is Most Forgiving, Merciful.

The Qur’an never indiscriminately condemns a whole people. The verse seeks to remove a possible misunderstanding that all Arabs of the desert were bad.

English - Five Volume Translation

Important Words:

قربات (means of drawing near) is the plural of قربة which is the noun-infinitive from قرب i.e. he or it was or became near in place, station or rank. قربة therefore, means, nearness; a thing by which one seeks nearness to God or a thing by which one seeks to advance oneself in His favour (Lane).

Commentary:

The Quran is fair to all. As the Arabs of the desert were spoken of in 9:97, as being the worst in disbelief and hypocrisy, this verse points out that all Arabs of the desert are not alike. Even among them are sincere believers who are ever striving to attain nearness to God.

اور انہی بدویوں میں کچھ لوگ ایسے بھی ہیں جو اللہ اور روز آخر پر ایمان رکھتے ہیں اور جو کچھ خرچ کرتے ہیں اُسے اللہ کے تقرب کا اور رسولؐ کی طرف سے رحمت کی دعائیں لینے کا ذریعہ بناتے ہیں ہاں! وہ ضرور ان کے لیے تقرب کا ذریعہ ہے اور اللہ ضرور ان کو اپنی رحمت میں داخل کریگا، یقیناً اللہ درگزر کرنے والا اور رحم فرمانے والا ہے

English - Sahih

But among the bedouins are some who believe in Allah and the Last Day and consider what they spend as means of nearness to Allah and of [obtaining] invocations of the Messenger. Unquestionably, it is a means of nearness for them. Allah will admit them to His mercy. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

اور بعضے گنوار ایسے ہیں کہ الله پر اور قیامت کے دن پر ایمان لاتے ہیں اور جو کچھ خرچ کرتے ہیں اسے الله کے نزدیک ہونے اور پیغمبر کی دعاؤں کا ذریعہ سمجھتے ہیں خبردار بے شک وہ ان کے لیے نزدیکی کا سبب ہے عنقریب انہیں اللہ اپنی رحمت میں داخل کرے گا بے شک الله بخشنے والا مہربان ہے

But among the bedouins (is he) who, believes in Allah and the Day the Last, and takes what he spends (as) means of nearness with Allah and blessings (of) the Messenger. Behold! Indeed, it (is) a means of nearness for them. Allah will admit them to His Mercy. Indeed, Allah (is) Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

And some of the Bedouins believe in God and the Last Day, and take what they expend for offerings bringing them near to God, and the prayers of the Messenger. Surely they are an offering for them, and God will admit them into His mercy; God is All-forgiving, All-compassionate.

English - Maududi

And among the bedouin Arabs are those who believe in Allah and the Last Day, and regard their spending (in the Way of Allah) as a means of drawing near to Allah and of deserving the prayers of the Messenger. Indeed, this shall be a means of drawing near to Allah. Allah will surely admit them to His mercy. Allah is All-Forgiving, Ever Merciful.

Yet some Arabs of the desert believe in God and the Last Day, and consider what they spend to be a means of bringing them nearer to God and the blessings of the Prophet. This is certainly a means of achieving nearness (to God), and God will admit them to His mercy, for God is forgiving and kind.

But some of the desert Arabs believe in Allah and the Last Day, and look on their payments as pious gifts bringing them nearer to Allah and obtaining the prayers of the Messenger.
