مَطَرَتِ السَّمَآءُ , aor.
مَطُرَ , inf. n. مَطَرٌ, [The
sky, or, as it sometimes means, the rain,]
rained; as also ↓ أَمْطَرَت: (T, S, Msb:) but
the former is said to relate to that which is sent
in mercy, and the latter to that which is sent in
punishment. (Msb.) See also what follows. ―

[Both are also trans. You say,] مَطَرَتْهُمُ السَّمَآءُ,
(A, K,) aor.
مَطُرَ , (TA,) inf. n. مَطْرٌ and مَطَرٌ;
(K:) and ↓ أَمْطَرَتْهُم, (A, TA,) which latter is
the worse form, [as will be seen below,] The sky
rained upon them. (A, K, TA.) And مُطِرْنَا We
were rained upon; we had rain. (S. TA,) ―

You say also, مَطَرَهُمْ خَيْرٌ, and شَرٌّ, (tropical:) [Good,
and evil, poured upon them; or betided them].
(A.) And مَطَرَنِى بِخَيْرٍ (tropical:) He did good to me.
(K.) And مَا مَطَرَنِى بِخَيْرٍ (tropical:) [He did not any
good to me]. (A.) And مَا مُطِرَ مِنْهُ خَيْرًا, [in
the CK, incorrectly, خَيْرٌ,] and بِخَيْرٍ, (tropical:) Good
did not betide him from him, or it. (K, TA.)
But ↓ أَمْطَرَهُمُ ٱللّٰهُ is only said in relation to
punishment: (K, TA:) as in the saying in the
Kur, [xxvi. 173, and xxvii. 59,] وَأَمْطَرْنَا ↓ عَلَيْهِمْ
مَطَرًا فَسَآءَ مَطَرُ ٱلْمُنْذَرِينَ (tropical:) [And we rained upon
them a rain, and evil was the rain of the
warned people]: and again in the Kur, [xv. 74,]
وَأَمْطَرْنَا ↓ عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِنْ سِجِّيلٍ (tropical:) [And we
rained upon them stones of baked clay]: the
stones being regarded as rain because of their
descent from the sky: some, however, hold that
مَطَرَ and ↓ أَمَطَرَ are the same in meaning. (TA.) ＝
1-A2- مَرَّ الفَرَسُ يَمْطُرُ, inf. n. مَطْرٌ (S, A) and
↓ مُطُورٌ; (S;) and ↓ يَتَمَطَّرُ; (S, A;) (tropical:) The
horse passed, or went, running vehemently, like
the pouring of rain: (A:) or went quickly; or
hastened; (S;) as also مَطَرَ الفَرَسُ, (K,) aor.
as above, (TA,) and so the inf. ns.: (K:) or
this last signifies the horse was quick in his
passing, or going, and in his running; and so
↓ تمطّر. (TA.) You say also, تَمَطَّرَ ↓ بِهِ فَرَسُهُ
(A, TA) (tropical:) His horse ran, and hastened, or went
quickly, with him. (TA.) And مَطَرَتِ الطَّيْرُ,
and ↓ تمطّرت, (tropical:) The birds hastened, or were
quick, in their descent. (K.) And تمطّرت ↓ الخَيْلُ
(tropical:) The horses came, (K, TA,) and went, quickly,
(TA,) outstripping one another. (K, TA.) ―

مَطَرَ فِى الأَرْضِ, inf. n. مُطُورٌ; and ↓ تمطّر; (tropical:) He
(a man) went away in, or into, the country, or
land; (S, K;) and hastened; as also قَطَرَ. (TA,
art. قطر.) ―
2-b3- ذَهَبَ البَعِيرُ فَمَا أَدْرِى مَنْ مَطَرَ بِهِ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
And these (Meccans) must have visited the town whereon was rained an evil rain. Have they not then seen it? Nay, they hope not to be raised after death.

اور وہ (تیرے مخالف) ایسی بستی پر (بارہا) گزرچکے ہیں جس پر بُری بارش برسائی گئی تھی۔ پس کیا وہ اس پر غور نہ کرسکے؟ حقیقت یہ ہے کہ وہ اٹھائے جانے کی امید ہی نہیں رکھتے۔

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر
اور یہ (مکہ کے کفار) اس بستی کے پاس سے گذر چکے ہیں[1] جس پر ایک تکلیف دہ بارش نازل کی گئی تھی۔ کیا یہ اس (بستی کے نشانوں) کو نہیں دیکھتے۔ حقیقت[2] یہ ہے کہ یہ دوبارہ اٹھنے کی امید ہی نہیں رکھتے تھے۔
یعنی لوط علیہ السلام کی قوم۔
قرآن کریم میں اس جگہ بَلْ کا لفظ ہے۔ جس کے معنے ’’بلکہ‘‘ کے بھی ہیں۔ اور ’’اظہار حقیقت‘‘ کے بھی۔ اس لئے ہم نے اس جگہ ’’بلکہ‘‘ ترجمہ نہیں کیا صرف ’’حقیقت یہ ہے‘‘ کے الفاظ لکھے ہیں۔

English - Five Volume Translation
And these (Meccans) must have visited [a]the town whereon was rained an evil rain. Have they not then seen it? Nay, they hope not to be raised after death.[2674]
7:85; 27:59.
Commentary:
The reference in the word "the town" may be to Sodom, the town of Lot, which was situated on the way from Arabia to Syria.
نشور (to be raised) may also signify the hour of the triumph of Islam. The Quraish did not have the remotest idea that the cause of the Holy Prophet would or could ever triumph.

اور اُس بستی پر تو اِن کا گزر ہو چکا ہے جس پر بدترین بارش برسائی گئی تھی کیا انہوں نے اس کا حال دیکھا نہ ہو گا؟ مگر یہ موت کے بعد دوسری زندگی کی توقع ہی نہیں رکھتے

And they have already come upon the town which was showered with a rain of evil. So have they not seen it? But they are not expecting resurrection.

Commentary:
