[1] كَثُرَ , aor. كَثُرَ , (S, Msb, K,) inf. n. كَثْرَةٌ (Msb, TA) and كِثْرَةٌ, or this is erroneous, (Msb,) [and perhaps كُثْرَةٌ, and كُثْرٌ, or these are simple substs., (see كَثْرَةٌ, below,)] and كَثَارَةٌ, (TA,) It was, or became, much, copious, abundant, many, numerous, great in number or quantity; it multiplied; it accumulated. (S, K, TA.) كَثُرُوا عَلَيْهِ فَغَلَبُوهُ [They multiplied against him and overcame him.] (TA in art. غرق). [كَثُرَ مِنْهُ كَذَا Such a thing proceeded from him, or was done by him, much, or often.] See also 4. ＝ 1-A2- كَاثَرُوهُمْ فَكَثَرُوهُمْ: see 3.

وَلَا تَقْعُدُوا۟ بِكُلِّ صِرَٰطٍ تُوعِدُونَ وَتَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ مَنْ ءَامَنَ بِهِۦ وَتَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا ۚ وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ إِذْ كُنتُمْ قَلِيلًا فَكَثَّرَكُمْ ۖ وَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

‘And sit not on every path, threatening and turning away from the path of Allah those who believe in Him, and seeking to make it crooked. And remember when you were few and He multiplied you. And behold, what was the end of those who created disorder!

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور ہر شاہراہ پر نہ بیٹھا کرودھمکاتے ہوئے اور اللہ کے راستہ سے روکتے ہوئے اس شخص کو جو اس پر ایمان لایا ہے جبکہ تم اس (راہ) کو ٹیڑھا (دیکھنا) چاہتے ہو۔ اور یاد کرو جب تم بہت تھوڑے تھے پھر اس نے تمہیں کثرت بخشی اور غور کرو کہ فساد کرنے والوں کا انجام کیسا تھا۔

French

Et ne vous asseyez pas sur tous les chemins, menaçant ceux qui croient en Allāh les empêchant de suivre Sa voie, et cherchant à la rendre tortueuse. Et souvenez-vous quand vous étiez peu nombreux et Il vous multiplia ; et regardez donc comment ont fini ceux qui ont créé le désordre !

German

Und lauert nicht drohend auf jedem Weg, indem ihr die von Allahs Weg abtrünnig machen möchtet, die an Ihn glauben, und indem ihr ihn (den Weg) zu krümmen sucht. Und denkt daran, wie ihr wenige wart und Er euch mehrte. Und schauet, wie das Ende derer war, die Unfrieden stifteten!

“No os apostéis en cualquier camino amenazando y apartando del camino de Al-lah a los que creen en Él, e intentando hacerlo tortuoso. Acordaos de cuando erais pocos y Él os multiplicó. ¡Mirad cuál fue el fin de los que sembraron la discordia!

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور ہر رستہ پر (اس نیت سے) نہ بیٹھا کرو کہ جو اللہ پر ایمان لائے اس کو اللہ کے راستہ سے ڈراؤ اور روکو اور اس (خدا کے رستہ) میں غلطیاں پیدا کرنے کی کوشش کرتے رہو اور یاد کرو جب تم تھوڑے تھے تو خدا نے تم کو زیادہ کر دیا تھا اور ہمیشہ نظر میں رکھو کہ فساد کرنے والوں کا انجام کیا ہوتا رہا ہے۔

‘And sit not on every path, threatening and [a]turning away from the path of Allah those who believe in Him and seeking to make it crooked. And [b]remember when you were few and He multiplied[1012] you. And behold, what was the end of those who created disorder!

The children of Abraham from Keturah, who was a bondwoman, were despised by both the Israelites and the Ishmaelites. They were looked down upon as weak and despicable, but God increased their numbers and gave them wealth and power.

Commentary:

The tribe of Shu‘aib appears to resemble very much the Arabs in their ways and customs; for, the Meccans did with the Holy Prophet exactly what the people of Shu‘aib did with him. Both of them hindered the outsiders from approaching their respective Prophets. The words, لا تقعدوا بکل صراط besides the meaning given in the text, may also be interpreted as, "have not recourse to every means", and taken in this sense, the prohibition shows that the people of Shu‘aib tried all means in their power to dissuade men from accepting the truth.

اور (زندگی کے) ہر راستے پر رہزن بن کر نہ بیٹھ جاؤ کہ لوگوں کو خوف زدہ کرنے اور ایمان لانے والوں کو خدا کے راستے سے روکنے لگو اور سیدھی راہ کو ٹیڑھا کرنے کے درپے ہو جاؤ یاد کرو وہ زمانہ جبکہ تم تھوڑے تھے پھر اللہ نے تمہیں بہت کر دیا، اور آنکھیں کھول کر دیکھو کہ دنیا میں مفسدوں کا کیا انجام ہوا ہے

English - Sahih

And do not sit on every path, threatening and averting from the way of Allah those who believe in Him, seeking to make it [seem] deviant. And remember when you were few and He increased you. And see how was the end of the corrupters.

اردو ترجمہ احمد علی

اور سڑکوں پر اس غرض سے مت بیٹھا کرو کہ الله پر ایمان لانے والوں کو دھمکیاں دو اور الله کی راہ سے روکو اوراس میں ٹیڑھا پن تلاش کرو اور اس حلات کو یاد کرو جب کہ تم تھوڑے تھے پھر الله نے تمہیں زیادہ کر دیا اور دیکھو فساد کرنے والوں کا انجام کیا ہوا ہے

Lurk not on every road to threaten (wayfarers), and to turn away from Allah's path him who believeth in Him, and to seek to make it crooked. And remember, when ye were but few, how He did multiply you. And see the nature of the consequence for the corrupters!
