They say نزفت البئر (nazafat), i.e. the well became empty, all the water having been taken out of it. أنزف الرجل means, the man became intoxicated, the spring of his senses having exhausted; his argument became exhausted in litigation. نزف فلان (nuzifa) means, such a one became intoxicated, the root meaning of نزف (nazfun) being to become exhausted (Aqrab).
