English - Short Commentary Translation

‘And He will leave them a barren, level plain;

English - Five Volume Translation

‘And He will leave them as a barren level plain,[2316]

Important Words:

قاعاً (barren and level) is derived from قاع which means, he desisted, recoiled or drew back; he inclined to one side while walking. القاع means, an even place; plain or level land that produces nothing; plain or soft land, low and free from mountain and herbage (Aqrab & Lane).

صفصفا (level plain) is derived from صف which means, he placed or stationed in a row.

صفصف means, a level or an even tract of land or ground. ارض صفصف signifies, a smooth and level or even land or a waterless desert (Lane).

Commentary:

The reference in the verse seems to be to the complete destruction of the material power and resources of the western nations. See also 18:8, 9.

And as to those who disbelieve, their deeds are like a mirage in a desert. The thirsty one thinks it to be water until, when he comes up to it, he finds it to be nothing. And he finds Allah near him, Who then fully pays him his account; and Allah is swift at reckoning.

اور وہ لوگ جنہوں نے کفر کیا ان کے اعمال ایسے سراب کی طرح ہیں جو چٹیل میدان میں ہو جسے سخت پیاسا پانی گمان کرے یہاں تک کہ جب وہ اس تک پہنچے اسے کچھ نہ پائے اور اللہ کو اس جگہ پائے پس وہ اسے اس کا پورا پورا حساب دے اور اللہ حساب چکانے میں تیز ہے۔

French

Et quant à ceux qui ne croient pas, leurs œuvres sont pareilles à un mirage dans un désert. L’assoiffé pense que c’est de l’eau, jusqu’à ce qu’en y arrivant, il trouve que ce n’est rien. Et là-bas il trouve Allāh, Qui lui règle son compte intégralement ; et Allāh est prompt à calculer.

German

Die aber ungläubig sind – ihre Taten sind wie eine Luftspiegelung in einer Ebene. Der Dürstende hält sie für Wasser bis er, wenn er hinzutritt, sie als Nichts findet. Doch er findet Allah nahebei, Der ihm seine Rechnung voll bezahlt; und Allah ist schnell im Abrechnen.

那些不信的人, [a]他们的行为好像是沙漠的海市蜃楼, 干渴的人以为是水, 等他来到那个地方时, 他一无所获, 只见安拉在那里, 他就完全回报他的行为。安拉的清算是神速的。

E quanto a coloro che non credono, le loro opere sono come un miraggio in un deserto. Chi è assetato immagina che si tratti di acqua, finché, quando vi giunge, scopre che non c'è nulla. E vi trova Allah che gli ripaga il conto. E Allah è rapido nel regolare i conti.

Spanish

En cuanto a los no creyentes, sus actos son como un espejismo en el desierto. El sediento piensa que hay agua hasta que, cuando llega a ella, encuentra que no es nada. Mas encuentra que Al‑lah está allí, quien le retribuye totalmente por sus acciones, pues Al‑lah es rápido en la retribución.

اور وہ لوگ جنہوں نے کفر کیا ان کے اعمال سراب کی طرح ہیںجو ایک وسیع میدان میں نظر آتی ہے جس کو پیاسا پانی سمجھتا ہے یہاں تک کہ جب وہ اس کے پاس آجاتا ہے تو وہ اسے کچھ بھی نہیں پاتا اور اللہ کو اس کے پاس دیکھ لیتا ہے تب اللہ اسے اس کا پورا پورا حساب چکا دیتا ہے اور اللہ بہت جلد حساب چکانے والوں میں سے ہے۔

And as to those who disbelieve, [c]their deeds are like a mirage in a desert. The thirsty one imagines it to be water until, when he comes up to it, he finds it to be nothing. And he finds Allah near him, Who then pays him his account in full; and Allah is Swift at reckoning.

And as to those who disbelieve, [a]their deeds are like a mirage in a desert. The thirsty one thinks it to be water until, when he comes up to it, he finds it to be nothing. And he finds Allah near him, Who then fully pays him his account; and Allah is swift at reckoning.[2621]

Important Words:

سراب (mirage) is derived from سرب. They say سرب الماء i.e. the water flowed. سرب الرجل means, the man went at random. سرابmeans, anything which on account of the heat of the sun in the middle of the day appears as if it is water reflecting buildings and trees, etc. mirage. The Arabs say ھو أخدع من السراب i.e. he is more deceptive than mirage (Aqrab).

قیعة (plain) is derived from قاع which means, he desisted, etc. قیعة is syn. with قاع and means, even place, plain or level land that produces nothing, low and free from mountains and herbage (Lane & Mufradat). See 20:107.

(اس کے برعکس) جنہوں نے کفر کیا ان کے اعمال کی مثال ایسی ہے جیسے دشت بے آب میں سراب کہ پیاسا اُس کو پانی سمجھے ہوئے تھا، مگر جب وہاں پہنچا تو کچھ نہ پایا، بلکہ وہاں اس نے اللہ کو موجود پایا، جس نے اس کا پورا پورا حساب چکا دیا، اور اللہ کو حساب لیتے دیر نہیں لگتی

English - Sahih

But those who disbelieved - their deeds are like a mirage in a lowland which a thirsty one thinks is water until, when he comes to it, he finds it is nothing but finds Allah before Him, and He will pay him in full his due; and Allah is swift in account.

اور جو کافر ہیں ان کے اعمال ایسے ہیں جیسے جنگل میں چمکتی ہوئی ریت ہو جسے پیاسا پانی سمجھتا ہے یہاں تک کہ جب اس کے پاس آتا ہے اسے کچھ بھی نہیں پاتا اور الله ہی کو اپنے پاس پاتا ہے پھر الله نے اس کا حساب پورا کر دیا اور الله جلد حساب لینے والا ہے

But those who disbelieve, their deeds (are) like a mirage in a lowland, thinks it the thirsty one (to be) water, until when he comes to it, not he finds it (to be) anything, but he finds Allah before him, He will pay him in full his due. And Allah (is) swift (in) the account.

And as for the unbelievers, their works are as a mirage in a spacious plain which the man athirst supposes to be water, till, when he comes to it, he finds it is nothing; there indeed he finds God, and He pays him his account in full; (and God is swift at the reckoning.)

(On the other hand,) the deeds of those who disbelieved, maybe likened to a mirage in a waterless desert, which the thirsty one took for water; but when he reached there he found nothing to drink; nay, he found there Allah Who settled his full account, and Allah is very swift at reckoning.

As for those who disbelieve, their deeds are like a mirage in the desert which the thirsty takes for water till he reaches it to find that there was nothing, and finds God with him who settles his account, for God is swift at the reckoning.
