قَالَ قَدۡ وَقَعَ عَلَیۡکُمۡ مِّنۡ رَّبِّکُمۡ رِجۡسٌ وَّغَضَبٌ ۖ اَتُجٰدِلُوۡنَنِیۡ فِیۡۤ اَسۡمَآءٍ سَمَّیۡتُمُوۡہَاۤ اَنۡتُمۡ وَاٰبَآؤُکُمۡ مَّا نَزَّلَ اللّٰہُ بِہَا مِنۡ سُلۡطٰنٍ ۚ فَانۡتَظِرُوۡۤا اِنِّیۡ مَعَکُمۡ مِّنَ الۡمُنۡتَظِرِیۡنَ
English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ra
He replied, ‘Indeed there have already fallen on you punishment and wrath from your Lord. Do you dispute with me about names which you have named — you and your fathers — for which Allah has sent down no authority? Wait then, I am with you among those who wait.’
اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ
اس نے کہا تمہارے ربّ کی طرف سے تم پر ناپاکی اور غضب واجب ہوچکے ہیں۔ کیا تم مجھ سے ایسے ناموں کے بارہ میں جھگڑتے ہو جو تم نے اور تمہارے باپ دادا نے گھڑ لئے ہیں جبکہ اللہ نے ان کے حق میں کوئی حجت نہیں اتاری۔ پس انتظار کرو۔ یقیناً میں بھی تمہارے ساتھ انتظار کرنے والوں میں سے ہوں۔
French
Il répondit : « En vérité, vous avez déjà été frappés par le châtiment et le courroux de votre Seigneur. Débattrez-vous avec moi au sujet des noms que vos pères et vous-mêmes avez nommés, ce pour quoi Allāh ne vous a transmis aucune autorité ? Attendez donc, moi aussi, je suis avec vous parmi ceux qui attendent. »

Er antwortete: "Niedergefallen ist nunmehr auf euch Strafe und Zorn von eurem Herrn. Wollt ihr mit mir über Namen streiten, die ihr nanntet – ihr und eure Väter –, wozu Allah keine Vollmacht hinabsandte? Wartet denn, ich bin mit euch unter den Wartenden."

Respondió: “En verdad, ya han caído sobre vosotros el castigo y la ira de vuestro Señor. ¿Disputáis conmigo sobre nombres que habéis mencionado – vosotros y vuestros padres – y para los que Al-lah no ha dado autoridad alguna? Esperad, pues, estoy con vosotros entre los que esperan”.
اردو تفسیرِ صغیر
اس نے کہا تمہارے رب کی طرف سے تم پر عذاب اور غضب نازل ہو چکا ہے۔ کیا تم ان ناموں کے متعلق مجھ سے بحث کرتے ہو جو تم نے اور تمہارے باپ دادوں نے تجویز کیے تھے۔ اللہ نے ان کے لئے کوئی دلیل نہیں اتاری۔ پس تم بھی (میرے لئے عذاب کا) انتظار کرو۔ میں بھی تمہارے ساتھ (تمہارے لئے) عذاب کا انتظار کرتا رہوں گا (اور دیکھیں گے کس کی امیدیں پوری ہوتی ہیں)

Commentary:
This verse shows that one may follow one’s forefathers only if one has the support of reason and not otherwise. Blind and unthinking following is condemned.

اس نے کہا "تمہارے رب کی پھٹکار تم پر پڑ گئی اور اس کا غضب ٹوٹ پڑا کیا تم مجھ سے اُن ناموں پر جھگڑتے ہو جو تم نے اور تمہارے باپ دادا نے رکھ لیے ہیں، جن کے لیے اللہ نے کوئی سند نازل نہیں کی ہے اچھا تو تم بھی انتظار کرو اور میں بھی تمہارے ساتھ انتظار کرتا ہوں"

[Hud] said, "Already have defilement and anger fallen upon you from your Lord. Do you dispute with me concerning [mere] names you have named them, you and your fathers, for which Allah has not sent down any authority? Then wait; indeed, I am with you among those who wait."

فرمایا تمہارے رب کی طرف سے تم پر عذاب اور غصہ واقع ہو چکا مجھ سے ان ناموں پر کیوں جھگڑتے ہو جوتم نے اور تمہارے باپ دادؤں نے مقرر کیے ہیں الله نے ان کے لیے کوئی دلیل نہیں اتاری سو انتظار کرو میں بھی تمہارے ساتھ انتظار کرنے والا ہوں

He said, "Verily has fallen upon you from your Lord punishment and anger. Do you dispute with me concerning names you have named them - you and your forefathers Not (has been) sent down (by) Allah for it any authority? Then wait, indeed, I am with you of the ones who wait.

Said he, 'Anger and wrath from your Lord have fallen upon you. What, do you dispute with me regarding names you have named, you and your fathers, touching which God has sent down never authority? Then watch and wait; I shall be with you watching and waiting.'

Hud warned them: 'Surely punishment and wrath from your Lord have befallen upon you. Do you dispute with me about mere names that you and your forefathers have concocted and for which Allah has sent down no sanction? Wait, then, and I too am with you among those who wait.'

He replied: "You have already been beset with punishment and the wrath of God. Why dispute with me about names invented by you and your ancestors for which no sanction was sent down? So wait (for what is to come), I am waiting with you."

He said: Terror and wrath from your Lord have already fallen on you. Would ye wrangle with me over names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which no warrant from Allah hath been revealed? Then await (the consequence), lo! I (also) am of those awaiting (it).
