وَتَحۡمِلُ اَثۡقَالَکُمۡ اِلٰی بَلَدٍ لَّمۡ تَکُوۡنُوۡا بٰلِغِیۡہِ اِلَّا بِشِقِّ الۡاَنۡفُسِ ۚ اِنَّ رَبَّکُمۡ لَرَءُوۡفٌ رَّحِیۡمٌ

English - Hazrat Molavi Sher Ali ^ra

And they carry your loads to a land which you could not reach except with great hardship to yourselves. Surely, your Lord is Compassionate, Merciful.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

اور وہ تمہارے بوجھ اٹھائے ہوئے ایسی بستی کی طرف چلتے ہیں جسے تم جانوں کو مشقت میں ڈالے بغیر نہیں پہنچ سکتے۔ یقیناً تمہارا ربّ بہت ہی مہربان (اور) بار بار رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

French

Et ils transportent vos fardeaux vers un pays où vous n’auriez autrement pu parvenir qu’avec de grandes fatigues pour vous-mêmes. Assurément, votre Seigneur est Compatissant, Miséricordieux.

German

Sie (die Tiere) tragen eure Lasten in ein Land, das ihr nicht erreichen könntet, es sei denn mit großer Mühsal für euch selbst. Wahrlich, euer Herr ist gütig, barmherzig.

Y ellos transportan vuestras cargas hasta una tierra a la que no podríais llegar a no ser a costa de gran esfuerzo por vuestra parte. En verdad, vuestro Señor es Compasivo, Misericordioso.

اردو تفسیرِ صغیر

اور وہ تمہارے بوجھ اٹھا کر اس (دور کے) شہر تک بھی لے جاتے ہیں۔ جہاں تک تم اپنی جانوں کو مشقت میں ڈالے بغیر نہیں لے جا سکتے۔ تمہارا رب یقیناً (تم پر) نہایت شفقت کرنے والا (اور) باربار رحم کرنے والا ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

And [c]they carry your loads to a land which you could not reach except with great hardship to yourselves. Surely, your Lord is Compassionate, Merciful.

Commentary:

When God has provided so many facilities for the physical journeys of man, how can He fail to provide similar facilities for his spiritual journey? To say that God is too exalted a Being to have such regard for the welfare of man as to provide for his spiritual needs is only a puerile pretext to deny Divine revelation. If God is Exalted, the verse seems to say, He is also Kind and Merciful to His creatures and therefore His solicitude for the spiritual wellbeing of man is not at all inconsistent with His Dignity and Majesty, and instead of detracting anything from His Glory, it rather enhances it. This Divinesolicitude for man’s welfare may metaphorically be called God’s carrying man’s burden for him.

The use of the word رءوف translated here as 'Compassionate' is intended to express that feeling of sympathy and love which one feels at seeing a person in trouble and distress. The verse means to say that as God is رءوف (Compassionate) He cannot bear to see man in distress.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

وہ تمہارے لیے بوجھ ڈھو کر ایسے ایسے مقامات تک لے جاتے ہیں جہاں تم سخت جانفشانی کے بغیر نہیں پہنچ سکتے حقیقت یہ ہے کہ تمہارا رب بڑا ہی شفیق اور مہربان ہے

English - Sahih

And they carry your loads to a land you could not have reached except with difficulty to yourselves. Indeed, your Lord is Kind and Merciful.

اور وہ تمہارے بوجھ اٹھا کر ان شہروں تک لے جاتے ہیں کہ جہاں تک تم جان کو تکلیف میں ڈالنے کے سوا نہیں پہنچ سکتے تھے بے شک تمہارا رب شفقت کرنے والا مہربان ہے

Those who dispute concerning the Signs of Allah without any authority having come to them — there is nothing in their breasts but a feeling of greatness which they will never attain. So seek refuge in Allah. Surely He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.

اردو ترجمہ مرزا طاہر احمد خلیفة المسیح الرابعؒ

یقیناً وہ لوگ جو اللہ کی آیات کے بارہ میں ایسی کسی قطعی دلیل کے بغیر جھگڑتے ہیں جو اُن کے پاس آئی ہو، اُن کے دلوں میں ایسی بڑائی کے سوا کچھ نہیں جسے وہ کبھی بھی پا نہیں سکیں گے۔ پس اللہ کی پناہ مانگ۔ یقیناً وہی بہت سننے والا (اور) گہری نظر رکھنے والا ہے۔

French

Ceux qui discutent à propos des Signes d’Allāh sans qu’aucune autorité leur soit parvenue – il n’y a rien dans leurs poitrines excepté un faux désir de grandeur qu’ils ne réaliseront jamais. Cherche donc refuge auprès d’Allāh. Assurément, Il est Celui Qui Entend Tout, Qui Voit Tout.

Diejenigen, die über die Zeichen Allahs streiten, ohne dass irgendeine Ermächtigung zu ihnen kam – nichts ist in ihren Herzen als Großmannssucht –, sie werden es nicht erreichen. So nimm Zuflucht bei Allah. Fürwahr, Er ist der Allhörende, der Allsehende.

Quelli che mettono in discussione i segni di Allah, senza che sia stata data loro autorità alcuna da parte Sua, non nutrono nei loro petti niente altro che un concetto di grandezza che non realizzeranno mai. Cerca dunque rifugio in Allah. Certamente, Egli è Colui che tutto ode, che tutto vede.

Quienes disputan sobre los Signos de Al-lah sin que se les haya dado autoridad alguna, no tienen nada en sus pechos salvo una presunción de grandeza que nunca alcanzarán. Busca pues refugio en Al-lah. En verdad Él es Quien todo lo Oye, Quien todo lo Ve.

وہ لوگ جو کہ اللہ کی آیتوں کے بارے میں بغیر کسی دلیل کے جو ان کے پاس (خدا کی طرف سے) آئی ہو بحث میں لگے رہتے ہیں‘ ان کے دلوں میں بڑی بڑی خواہشیں ہیں جن کو وہ کبھی نہ پہنچیں گے۔ پس اللہ کی پناہ مانگتا رہ۔ وہ بہت سننے والا (اور) بہت دیکھنے والا ہے۔

English - Short Commentary Translation

[a]Those who dispute concerning the Signs of Allah without any authority having come to them from Allah— there is nothing in their breasts but an ambition to become great[2613] which they will never attain. So seek refuge in Allah. Surely, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.

40:36.

Kibr signifies pride; desire or ambition to become great; great designs (Lane).

کبر may signify, besides the meaning given in the text, pride; desire to become great; great designs.

اردو ترجمہ مودودی

حقیقت یہ ہے کہ جو لوگ کسی سند و حجت کے بغیر جو اُن کے پاس آئی ہو، اللہ کی آیات میں جھگڑے کر رہے ہیں اُن کے دلوں میں کبر بھرا ہوا ہے، مگر وہ اُس بڑائی کو پہنچنے والے نہیں ہیں جس کا وہ گھمنڈ رکھتے ہیں بس اللہ کی پناہ مانگ لو، وہ سب کچھ دیکھتا اور سنتا ہے

English - Sahih

Indeed, those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah without [any] authority having come to them - there is not within their breasts except pride, [the extent of] which they cannot reach. So seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, it is He who is the Hearing, the Seeing.

بے شک جو لوگ الله کی آیتوں میں بغیر اس کے کہ ان کے پاس کوئی دلیل آئی ہو جھگڑتے ہیں اور کچھ نہیں بس ان کے دل میں بڑائی ہے کہ وہ اس تک کبھی پہنچنے والے نہیں سو الله سے پناہ مانگو کیوں کہ وہ سننے والا دیکھنے والا ہے
