اَلرُّجْز (Ar-Rujz) 的意思也是偶像崇拜 (Lane), 所以这节经文可以理解为诏令穆圣不遗馀力地结束偶像崇拜。
رُجْز کے معنے شرک کے ہوتے ہیں۔ اور ھَجْر کے معنے کاٹ ڈالنے اور مٹا دینے کے (اقرب) پس ہم نے وَالرُّجْزَ فَاھْجُرْ کے معنے لغت کے مطابق ’’شرک کو مٹا ڈال‘‘ کے کیے ہیں۔

Idol worship is the basic sin, but it takes different forms with different people, for instance, worship of idols made of wood or stone; worship of human beings; worship of one’s desires, of old customs, usages, etc.
